I'm in for that kind of dream!
-
Just finished watching, and my impressions are: The Winner/iKON collab was so good! I hope fandoms can learn from the artist and stop antagonizing the other... I really hope YG gives us more of those in the future, with the girls as well During Long Time No See, well... Chanwoo does feel like he is still vocally weak, it was obvious that the members gave him easy lines to repeat and that was it. But those short lines, he does deliver them, so yeah... Yun and Jin though were so good! On the other hand, Shinoshijak was just FLAWLESS! I personnally didn't mind Donghyuk/Jinhwan, and even in the dance Hongseok didn't look quite as stiff as in previous episodes, seriously, wow! And in the dance perfomance, I really loved how B.I. made sure to give Hong his 2 seconds of B-boying, for the only move he seem to know, but it was nice to see it again, especially considering all the other 5 had some kind of dance spotlight in the choreography. Actually, it's quite impressive because Hongseok and Jinhyung clearly caught up with the others in terms of skill, Chanwoo is still lagging behind, but even his improvement is wow (the dance with Donghyuk was just perfect!) Damn YG, Y U SO CRUEL! I really want OT9 now... I feel they have a good balance when they're 9. Even if I don't like it when some members have only 1-2 lines in each and every song, no matter who leaves it will be heartbreaking. At the same time, sure we all have our bias, but no matter who makes it, it's YG we're talking about it. Even if it takes 1 year of prep to retrain and debut them, they will be flawless by the time he will present them to us. (I know he announced them for January, he also announced the girls since like 2012, and announced Winner for waaaay before their debuted) And even if there is pitch correction, seriously, all idols use them and also use MR when going live. It's not the best, but I'm ok with it. Personally, I'll be disappointed if Jinseok don't make the cut, but that won't stop me from liking iKON if they come out with awesomeness like Shinoshijak!

The difference is that Hanna is not debuting solo, and wasn't a winner, I don't think YG would have the mostly unrelated GG appear in Kpop Star. It wouldn't make much sense... It only made sense for 15& because Jimin was the previous season's winner. If anyone, I think we will see Bernard Park doing a comeback (even though his debut is pretty much a flop...) or Kwon Jin Ah/Sam Kim making a debut (moreover so because Yoo Hee Yeol has yet to show what he can make with the trainees he recruits) Wasn't there a rumor about her filming a few weeks back though? Anyways, crossing my fingers for the girls

Just correcting that, Yedam finished 2nd of Kpopstar 2 at age 12^^ just like Lee Hi finished 2nd of Kpopstar 1, and we all know how big Lee Hi made it the minute she came out with her 1st single.

Having lived in a country doesn't make you a person of that nationality. Seeing how so many "foreign" idols are prejudiced for not being Korean, wouldn't it be best to acknowledge she's a Korean who spent part of her childhood in NZ? Plus I don't really agree with someone picking up mannerism and way of speaking at that age, for me it happens before that. And in my country 13-16 is what we call the "stupid" age, where everyone is just being rebellious and edgy, and once you grow out of it, you're ashamed of what you did/wore/said... Let's just agree to disagree on that one ;) And nobody owns a name, but the whole point of taking a stage name as a celebrity is to avoid homonyms, or to make a statement with your name. If there are aleady 2 JIN (even more if we count Japan in and since it's YG they'll most probably end up promoting there), I don't think it would be a good stage name. I was just saying what I associate JIN with, and why I thought it wouldn't suit her...
-
But JIN is already taken by one of Woollim's girl, the image I associate with it now is kind of soft/ballad type. Not fitting for a bubbly rapper. I would be fine with her coming up with a completely new name (just like Youngbae became Taeyang or Seung Hyun TOP, or less unrelated to their original names Seungri/CL/GD...). I'm sure if the name is a problem, she'll come up with something fitting, please just not a 1-2 letter name, they are too used nowadays : CL, GD, LE, IU, JB, Jr, GO, V, N, L (most of them sound crappy...) For me Jennie is a Korean member though. From what I understand, she just went to school in NZ for a few years, but was born and mainly raised in South Korea. She is more international than most Koreans, but still...
-
The rumors aside, did you notice how the article pointed out that in 2NE1, the member who received attention/hate pre-debut because of promoting as a trainee was Bom? But Bom didn't become the leader, CL did. (Actually I'm too lazy to check if it's true, I'll just blindly trst what it says) Since Miyeon joined at around the same time as Jennie, maybe she will be leader? I mean the pattern for leaders in YG tends to be the long-time trainees+the ones who show the ability, and they end up being the most promoted ones. Maybe YG will refrain from giving any more focus on Jennie when she's already so well known as it is? I don't like the idea that there is too much focus on one member in a group, and some who can't get spotlight...

Oh ok... You got my hopes up xD That 70-30 thing really needs to be clarified... Sure, not saying it's not dumb, but that's human. Just like Double B keep saying "Since I'm a human". They've been through a lot together, they all know better than anyone else how much they had to go through to get to the point where debuting is within their reach. It's natural to want the ones you know have worked hard to debut with you, rather than the lucky 3 who have the good timing in joining YG. Even as a leader, it's not easy to tell people who have become your friends that actually, these new guys are better for the group. Actually it's probably even hard to take that step back to see it, he just sees those boys are friends who work hard and whom he is comfortable with. You also explained that the other dancers of your group were kicked out, not that you had to kick them out or have them fight against each other to eliminate the weaker ones. The same goes here, YG should have just kicked out the ones he felt were unsuitable and add the new members. That's why it's so harsh from YG to expect that of him/them (including Bobby and Jinhwan), to "select" the best team out of the trainees he's throwing at them...

Is this official? If it is, it's a little wtf but ok, at least the new members do have a chance then, but I feel this goes against Hongseok and Jinhyeong, Hongseok because YG seems to have his doubts about him, Jinhyeong because YG has little interest in him. Anyway thanks for finally clarifying that! BI is still a kid... It's like when you're in sport at school and you have to select your team. Most of the time, the first 1-2 are the friends, then only the best players. Here too, BI cares about his friend OT6 first, he probably has his mind set on the +1 he feels is the best as well.

I knew I would forget at least one^^ And for Dara I don't think so but according to Dramawiki she had a cameo in You who came from the Stars and Style, and actually acted in the The Return of Iljimae.

Just came to say I really like Jeongyeon on those model pictures. She really has a strong charisma, the look in her eyes is no joke... Nayeon looks really cute I think Jisoo looks like AOA Chanmi, I don't know, a little countrified? I'm not saying that as a bad thing, she's just not really the stunning beauty like some other Kpop girls...? Maybe that's just me. (I don't know much about the girls yet, this is really just based on the model shots, I don't mean to offend anyone)

Anyone remembering this? If there are composers in the group, I'd put my bet on Miyeon and Jisoo And I'm a little worried about the competition actually, it's not only YGNGG vs 6mix, it's YGNGG vs 6mix vs WollimGG vs Sonamoo(TSGG). Counting the already debuted RV or Minx (I don't think they're relevant but saw them in a korean article comparing the new GG so who knows?), plus the probably soon to come The Ark and Baby Kara... And the established and growing AOA/Girl'sDay/Apink. Not that I'm not trusting YG to bring something good, I'm worried about his marketing abilities. The girls really need to come out 100% on shows/drama/photoshoots if they want to make it big, and that's not YG's forte. I'm seeing hope with Winner, but still... There are so many girl groups and new girls group debuts, it's going to be a tough fight to stay as the relevant one.

Sorry, English is not my first language, I'll try to rephrase. I meant that even if Jinhwan pulls a miracle on his next team (Donghyuk and Chanwoo), it probably won't change much in the end-result. BI is completely acknowledge as good leader by everyone, and they will make him win the vocal part just because he has to be THE leader. Bobby could potentially threaten that just because he won SMTM3, and his very popular atm, but I really don't think so... The only thing Jinhwan's team can win is the dance part, because it looks like he is the better dancer in everyone's mind. So preparing for the final match, rather than overworking on the vocal competition because of his frustration (which is being 3rd place twice in a row), I think he should do quite the same as for the 2nd match: work the dance, and his members should work on their individual battle song. But then again, I don't understand the ranking in the 2nd match, because for me he was a clear 2nd place based on the points. And the second part of my post meant that with 100% fan voting, OT6 would be safe and that only Hong/New Jin/Chanwoo will really need to battle it out with the individual song, but YG and his 30% can make a difference here and create an OT5+2. I don't think that any member outperforming himself can make a difference in the fan votes. Their character is already set by the bad Mnet editing and too many fans believe it as it is, and most of them seem to root for OT6+Chanwoo This is all speculation, but considering the next teams will be BI-Junhoe-Jinhyeong, BI-Yunhyeong-Hongseok and Jinhwan-Donghyuk-Chanwoo, if we were in a 100% fan-voting, the scenario would probably be: - Jinhyeong and Junhoe (BI team) in, - Yunhyeong or Donghyuk in from the 2nd team, - Chanwoo-Hongseok-Yun/Dong battle and Yun/Dong in => iKON OT6+Jinhyeong. I just don't know how/when YG will show his 30%, but I imagine that is how he can vote "out" Yun or Dong in favor of another trainee, for example if he selects the last member as Hongseok instead of Yun/Dong (selecting one member would be 25% vote though, not 30? Sorry I'm not so good in math). Or does he plan on using 30% in each step, vocal performance, dance performance and final spot battle? Because if he does, it means he basically has the power to select ALL the members, +30% for someone is huge! This 70-30 thing is really bothering me xD

No matter what he does, Double B's image is stronger, especially BI, I don't think the jury would make Jinhwan's team win (other than in a dance performance). And we have seen that most iKON fans are quite oblivious of the editing, and the members' image is sadly already set, and most of the voting will take place based on those images rather than on the last performance, unless he pulls a HUGE miracle, but I don't think that will happen. To me, the only thing Jinhwan's team can do is ace the dancing, and prepare a battle song good enough to get YG's 30% (and only if YG has not already set his mind on who he wants to see in the final lineup). And that is actually only true for the 3 new trainees, I'm pretty sure with fan votes, OT6 are safe. Those 30% will probably become the deciding factor for them.

LOL! But I agree... Hongseok was even more transparent than Donghyuk in this episode, that means something. THIS! This would be a life-saver. Even if BI who is uping his game with each performance miraculously earns 1st, it's ok! (Sorry, I don't believe Jinhwan can make his team win, he just wants the spotlight too much and can't give it to his members) My thoughts too, did you notice when the judges left, BI, Dong, Bobby all immediately went to see the ones eliminated/crying, Jinhyeong was hugged by Jinhwan, Chanwoo was reassured by Bobby and don't remember whom, Hongseok just stood there. Not crying, not happy, not reconforting anyone. He looked completely ostracized in that moment. Plus BI very obviously favored Donghyuk in both the vocal and the dance performance... And he's the leader, if he wants to leave someone on the sidelines, he can do so... I think the first 1-2 albums will be pushed in the hip-hop direction, but then the sound will change, BI likes other genres, and Jinhwan (possibly Donghyuk/Chanwoo/Yunhyeong/Hongseok) are not "all for hip-hop" either. Latest by the time they go solo, they will stop doing only hip-hop. Big Bang changed a lot over the years too. Now to my opinion of the episode: I personally liked BI's Let it go xD It was the perfect audition song seriously, showing swag, belting notes, building up tension... In a performance it's awesome, on a track it would be the same kind of mess SNSD did with I got a boy though... But I agree, Lee Hi was much too present, they should have given half her lines to Hongesok. Then I also thought Donghyuk shined, probably because BI helped putting him in the spotlight, but he stood up to it, which I thought was good. His voice is still the same, nasally and too weak to do belting like he tries to, but I thought he was ok. ESPECIALLY in the dance performance!! I also think the biggest improvement throughout the show was Chanwoo, I mean when you start from rock bottom, it's easy to quickly improve... The best improvement though is Jinhyeong, because he is growing more stable and confident with each performance, he still far from the team B members, but he is miles ahead of Chanwoo, and sorry, Hongseok. It's a shame Hongseok got recruited so late, because he would fit in ex-team A actually... I'm starting to think it's ok if he is not in, not because he is not talented but because iKON just isn't the group for him, just like I believe it isn't for Donghyuk. Neither of them can show their skills in that group, Hongseok because they won't let him and because he doesn't fit the image, Donghyuk because they overrate his vocal capabilities. He is not lead singer, if anything, he is like Dara, soft voice that can only do subvocal in hip-hop songs. I also feel it's a little worrisome that BI managed to make Chanwoo fit in the first time he worked with him, but that for Hongseok he can't (or won't, which is even worse since that means the group's leader won't acknowledge one of the member, and on the long run this can't be good, and isn't something Hongseok can fight against...) Now all this put aside, I think someone needs to explain how that performance assessment works. I understood Best vocal team: 2 members selected, Best dance team: 1 member selected, remaining 3 battle it out. Now today, BI's team was first in vocal, so Hong and Dong got in, so far: OK. 1st team in dance was Jinhwan's: how did they end up 3rd? Even if we consider adding all the scores up, we have: 1. Jinhwan: 911 (422 vocal + 489 dance) 2. Bobby: 904 (448 vocal + 456 dance) 3. BI: 896 (460 vocal + 436 dance) Can anyone explain the mysterious team ranking YG did? Why were the teams scored if they ignored the scores in the end?!? What was the use of the dance performance if Jinhwan's team couldn't even redeem themselves through it and catch 2nd place?

Actually the number of "new" girls is somewhat unexpected... There are the 8 we know and it seems like there are at least 2 more (the girl next to Hanna and the short-haired tall girl we saw with Lisa, not counting the other rumors and names dropped here and there). Didn't someone here say Eunbi was actually part of another team? What if YG has as many girl trainees as they had boys, with an A team and a B team ? I'm not saying he would do another Win (please no T.T) but still... The 2nd 2NE1 would be C team (just like Raesong/Yedam group for the boys)...

Seems like the next gg generation is gearing into their debut, TS, Woolim, JYP and now YG, what is DSP waiting for? Sojin is not getting younger, there are still some 1992 debuting this year, but they're already late bloomers... Plus they have all received spotlight through Baby Kara, they could be ahead in terms of followers if they were to debut soon... I know Youngji just debuted with Kara, but I don't think they can afford to wait so long before debuting the girls... Btw hi, I've never poster here, but I'm a Yooji fan since Kpop Star, I watched DSP's show when I saw she was in it, and I actually am glad it's Youngji who went to Kara, because I think she fit the image of Kara best, while the other girls look good together, and I just hope they'll have a music style closer to Kara's Mister, Step or Jumping than the too cutesy songs Kara has done in Japan...
-
I've been thinking the same... This show doesn't seem to be "we saw where the team was weak and lost to Team A, we will improve it with new members" but "Hey, let's make something to promote a little before we debut them, but since we said they couldn't debut as they were, we'll add a member, what show can we do with that?". It's also seriously lacking in preparation compared to WIN. The way Hongseok was added for example, it's like YG realized he had just a new recruit and nothing to do with him or opportunities besides iKON, so he added him in late. I'm also half expecting YHS to change the rules again at some point. He said the members failing wouldn't be able to debut under YG, before WIN, he also said the loosing team would be disbanded, but then he changed his mind. Maybe Jun/Yun/Hong/Dong/Chan/Jinhy (the failed 2 from this list) will actually get another opportunity within YG? Even if they don't make the group, YG would be stupid to drop Chanwoo, who has already made a name for himself as an actor (since I believe debuting as an actor is also a debut he excluded?), Jinhyeong also debuted in acting and could do pretty fine in musicals (I don't remember well, but I think someone said he was in musicals before?), and Hongseok is not "YG style" but if not in YG, he will surely be recruited somewhere else and debut sooner or later too, why give up on him? Actually, the Team B members are probably the most threatened if they don't make it, besides Cube recruiting them (just like for half of BEAST members), they don't really stand a chance now that their name is so strongly linked with Team B/ iKON/YG. I don't see a 9 member debut as a change of rules, but I wouldn't be surprised if iKON ends up as a 5 or 8 member group. I'm in a mindset where I know YG will just throw something unexpected at us because that's just how he is.

These!!! We are obviously into a shift, going to the next generation of idols, and I want people to stop comparing them with the past, but it's apparently a very Korean thing to do. A Pink was the second SES, Dal Shabet the (failed) second SNSD, Red Velvet members are dubbed second Tiffany and second Taeyeon... Just let those rookies have an identity of their own! I like Big Bang (not the more recent music style but still), and I'd love for iKON to have a similar style, but only if that fits with the members, and I really think it doesn't... The problem with YG is that he is too much in a "Hip-Hop or nothing" mindset. Recently he debuted many successful acts that are not Hip-Hop (Lee Hi, AKMU, Winner) and they were successful. I don't know why he is so obsessed with re-making YG's hip-hop reputation, I think the artist-not-just-idol reputation is much more important for his company, and this can only be achieved by letting them go for their own style. The only "true" hip-hop member there is Bobby (maybe Junhoe as well), the others either just like the style or try hard to fit in. Their music choices pretty much shows it. Wearing baggy clothes and snapbacks does not mean someone is hip-hop nor make someone hip-hop... Anyways, I enjoyed ep5. The performances were really nice, I'm waiting for subs to understand the judges' comments. Not a fan of the editing though, so biased and pointless. I felt bad for poor Hongseok, we see him like twice to see him get scolded, and like you all said: No Donghyuk, no New Jin... Soohyun and Lee Hi also got much more air-time and lines than Hanna. Mnet uses the "stars" to make more audience, and completely neglects the rest. We all know Bobby, B.I., Lee Hi and Soohyun, we're not watching M&M for them (at least not ONLY for them). Why does YG chose to collaborate with Mnet for this? And why not control the editing more? I'm getting frustrated over this...

Thanks! I guess all groups have a lot of line-up changes during the training period... (Why CCM of all companies?!? CCM is really messy...)
