  1. Not sure if this has been talked about, but did I mishear this or something? To me. it sounds like BOA (Spica) is saying she likes girls...or maybe she likes girls that look like boys? Or maybe she's talking about herself? The context is a little fuzzy. I don't know how to embed Gfycat videos...

Edit: After doing a search, it looks like you guys have been saying this for years. But this kinda confirms it if I'm understanding her correctly.

  2.

that's because south korea music market and is a lot smaller than the US. And Koreans are known to follow trends; this is why if you get to the top, no matter what you release it will chart. But ifans can also be blamed. Most of the subscribers on the 1thek channel are international and they mostly stick to who's popular.

Very true. International fans can be just as bad.
  3. But it is super frustrating. I feel like content is king in the western music scene. A big name helps, but newcomers often shoot to number one on the billboard charts. That only happens in K-Pop when the group is from a big company. It's like the smaller groups don't have a chance.

Like 20 hours later, Laboum's new video only has 76,000 views on 1thek, a channel with 4 million subscribers. Just shows that people are choosing to ignore them.

It's hard to stay optimistic when it seems like the system is designed to keep these groups down. I get the impression that the public can't think for themselves, they just follow trends. Mamamoo and Gfriend broke through, but that's more to do with their companies connections and celeverness and not their songs.

  4. I agree, kpop can be so frustrating that way.

There are a lot of parts in the song that remind me of something Twice might sing, but since it's Laboum singing it people will ignore. ã…  ã…

Yeah it's all about brand recognition. I float between randoms so I'm not super biased towards Laboum, but I honestly think this is one of the best releases of 2016. It's very well produced and catchy.
  5. as someone who does stan trainees, it has a lot to do with wanting to know more. the japanese and chinese music industry makes it very apparent who their trainees are, and us K-Pop fans know little to nothing. seeing a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes is so satisfying because most companies keep fans in the dark. it's interesting to see someones growth, I really wouldn't care if my faves were the next big thing. I stanned SONAMOO pre-debut too, and I still like their music and think they are very talented.

your post makes it seem like none of the girls from the big 3 worked "that hard" as trainees. do you know how much more strict the process is? they don't care if you've been a trainee for 10 years or only 6 months, if you don't impress them you get kicked out after monthly evaluations. the pressure is so overwhelming many of these trainees leave. remember Euna Kim? she left YG because of how intense the competition was. sometimes yes, idols from the big 3 become famous just because the companies are well known. but that doesn't diminish the talent they have at all. but coming from a smaller company doesn't diminish SONAMOO's talent either

you shouldn't rag on people, no matter who they stan. stan a company, stan an idol group whatever. if they are being obnoxious about it, you have every right to be annoyed. but if they are just celebrating their success, you shouldn't be annoyed. you celebrate SONAMOO's success, let them celebrate BLACKPINK's success.

Sorry if you took offense when none was intended. "I won't knock anyone's preferences." I'm aware of everything you just said. Please, don't read too much into something clearly labeled as a rant.  :)

Edit: And this is a serious comment. It just sounds a little snarky. I truly didn't mean to offend anyone or imply that the Big Three groups don't work hard. This is K-Pop--all the groups go through hell to debut.

I so agree with you...the structure in the kpop industry sucks..cause success will only be evident with the big 3...and of course those groups that hit jackpot with certain attracting qualities that they have but to shut their attention away from good music overall is what I don't fkn get....for sonamoo, they are freaking versatile...versatile..they were different from the get go...they pursued different genres and wrote songs even for their debut until now...who could not appreciate a group such as that...I'm freaking waiting till forever here and I will do so until our girls reach the top..I don't really care if it takes another few months or a year...I'm good for life knowing that these girls will get there one day....it's always a plus to have that unseen faith in something like this..we should have patience that's all... these talented young ladies will get there...

    :rlytearpls:

now let's get going with reaching that 1mil...I'm not even tired of I like you too much...I even know what choreo comes to what part...gawd..I'm done... :imstupid:

Thanks. And it's a good song. I'm still enjoying it too.

  6. but they're from yg so it's to be expected

Mini Off-Topic Rant: That's the thing I hate most about K-Pop. The western music industry doesn't really have "Company Stans." No one cares if you're signed to Virgin Records, Atlantic, or some random indie. Everyone has to prove themselves. The same isn't true for this industry. YG, JYP, and SM "Idol" groups are basically guaranteed success.

I'm not bitter--I really enjoy most of those companies groups. But I hate when fans on here try to pretend that their idols are prettier, more talented, etc. No...they're just signed to a label that guarantees instant fame (they just ticked the right boxes during the audition process). If YG had signed every member of Sonamoo, placed them in a group, and gave them any old song--they'd also have an all-kill.

That's why I don't get into debates on here. Some groups like EXID and Girls Day had to really earn their fans, while other groups just hit the jackpot. I'm not knocking those groups, but I hate when fans try to flaunt that success.
