  1. It wasn't insecurity; rather, the question had already been answered before, so you asking it again just seemed like you were looking for something to nitpick about, and I wasn't going entertain that. If that's not what you were doing, fine, but it just came across that way. I didn't try to make Beyonce less than what she is. She's great, but she's not Barbra Streisand. Even this thread has ranked her lower than Barbra--more than once. And again, I didn't intentionally give you attitude first. I also know that I've been attacked here a lot, but that has nothing to do with this "debate," and I didn't go on the defensive because of it. I simply thought you had gotten offensive with me about things I had never said, and that's what made me annoyed. If you didn't mean anything offensively, I apologize.
  2. You were rude first. Or at least it came off that way to me. You didn't seem polite at all. And how was I starting an argument by merely stating a fact that sometimes Beyonce goes a little weird after she growls? Did I say it made her a worse vocalist? No. Did I say anything that ever called into question her vocal abilities so much that you had to come and defend her? No. You were rude because of your elitist attitude (such as bringing up the fact that I don't study music at university but rather independently). If you didn't mean it to be rude, I'm sorry, but it came off that way really strongly to me, especially because you didn't need to bring it up, and especially because I never even stated something that was up for debate. And I didn't ignore anything you said, by the way. I took it all into consideration; but you were acting like I said Beyonce was headed for some great vocal decline because she sometimes growls, and I never even implied that. Basically, everything that annoyed you by what I "said," I never even said.
  3. Everything you've said is a mixture of common sense and what I've already said. I didn't say it made Beyonce a bad vocalist in the long run, just that it sometimes detracts from her vocals after she does it, and that it's not always very healthy. I don't know where you're getting this idea that I said Beyonce was working herself into decline. It's almost like you're putting words in my mouth and getting annoyed at me for it. And Babs ain't better because she plays it safe; she's better because her technique and dynamics are better. lol And that question was answered months ago. You can use the search feature. I'm not entertaining condescending ideas here, especially when you're fueling the fire with things I never even said.
  4. Yeah, I guess so. Well, how old is she now? 71 or 72? lol She's great for her age.
  5. Thanks for the answer. I've seen some really pitchy and strained performances from Jordin, though. Of course there are also some good ones, but I don't know if you could say she's consistent. In any case, I'd say she's not even on Beyonce's level, let alone in the same category of the ranking system. Sorry, I can't give times because I blocked Onehallyu (wasting too much time) on my personal computer, and I'm using the library one now. I know Beyonce's growls are stylistic, and I wasn't saying her growls were from the throat. I meant that I think after she growls a lot, she sometimes comes from the throat to hit notes; not all the time, not often, but sometimes, and it's an annoying stylistic choice anyway (if done too much). Lol, and the Beyonce video of Halo people dote on in this forum all the time is also old, but it's cited as an example of how amazing she is. Not saying it's not amazing, but don't rag me for posting old videos when other people do it as well. Anyways, I appreciate the response, and I in no way meant to demean Beyonce or her technique. Sorry to bring this back up way late, but I can't use onehallyu on my laptop, so.
  6. This is the only version of the song. ^^ I would also like to hear a version without the rap, though.
  7. Personally, I'd say they'd both be great tier or so. When I think of amazing, I think of Babs, and neither of them come close to her level of technical mastery.
  8. I know it's her choice; I just don't agree with it. It's bad for the voice, no matter who does it. Christina's technique is so bad, anyway. I'm not saying Beyonce is bad at like everything like Christina; they're not even the same level vocally. I just think Beyonce relies too much on her growling, especially on bigger notes sometimes, and from what I've seen, it can make her vibrato worse or reduce her column of sound on bigger notes.
  9. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFhc1RJiX8s She goes throaty here, and her vibrato is off at times. Same here. I've heard she was sick here, and it was a while ago, but still, it's not much different from more recent performances. I'm not saying Beyonce is a bad singer or that she's going throaty because of a lack of technique. Rather, I think her stylistic throatiness at times throws off her voice and she should really consider reducing the amount she chooses to use that stylistic technique.
  10. Beyonce growls and sings from the throat A LOT, although, I guess it's stylistic. But it can't be healthy.
  11. I agree with this, but Beyonce sings from her throat a lot, at least from what I hear. It could be stylistic, but there's no way it's healthy.
  12. Well, who do you consider to be better: Jordin Sparks or Beyonce? I honestly don't see how Jordin is on great level, myself. Isn't that reserved for people who aren't Babs level but are still really good like Sohyang and Ock Ju-hyeon? Not saying I put much stock in the ranking system used in this site, but if I did, I wouldn't put her any better than "good."
  13. Lee Sun-hee's done it a few times. I'm not sure who else, but it wouldn't surprise me if Babs could do it. Her dynamics are out of this world.
  14. If it's airy, then it's probably a lack of breath support. Make sure your posture is good, your breathing is correct (not only are you having nice breaths, but you're maintaining good breath flow through your vocal cords); also make sure you aren't singing from your throat (a common cause of bad vibrato). Also notice if your tongue/jaw moves, as it's a sign of tension. Hope it helps, and good luck!
  15. I know you're supposed to avoid chocolate. lol
  16. What would you say ì´ì„ í¬'s voice type is? Even the Korean websites I stumbled across have trouble identifying her, and say it's hard to classify. Surely someone can, though. lol
  17. Well, it is a ranking of technique, because it says it on the list. lol Not everything is accurate by those standards, but they did get the important stuff correct. In the Top Vocal category, it says "Korea's 0.01 physical + 0.01 technique + rarity of vocal skills + being the best vocalist in the genre you're in" It just continues like this and goes down in quality as you go from the top of the list to the bottom. But technique is definitely a factor in his/her categorization, even if s/he might be off at times.
  18. She's not an idol, but Lee Sun Hee is literally resonant like every time she opens her mouth.
  19. I just can't with these stupid people like. I don't know how many times I have to tell you something in order for you to understand it. And, like, this is the second time this has happened. I mean, GOLLY.
  20. Speaking of training, do you believe Babs never received formal lessons like some claim?
  21. I'm not sure. ã… ã… I only know Chinese characters in relation to Korean, so I can't say for sure what nuances they carry in modern Chinese, but I'm sure the meanings of the characters are the same.
