Your brother played 3 or 4 more generations and still felt the original generation was the best? that just adds insult to injury, although I do find it bizarre someone would continue playing pokemon once they reach high school. It was all about FPS games by that time.. I never got passed the Red/Blue/Yellow era and I have no regrets. Pokemon hasn't been the craze it once was and will never get back to that level. In all fairness though, no franchise, not anything, is able to reach its peak and sustain it. once you're on top, you can only go down even if some sort popularity still exists. thanks to teenagers like you, Pokemon is still here!

Pokemon is still selling ridiculous amount of units worldwide. Yeah, ok. Today's sales are only the tip of the iceberg compared to 15 years ago. Pokemon was insanely huge from 98-00 and it's popularity has declined dramatically ever since. The next time you hear of schools banning Pokemon cards due to kids getting bullied over holo cards, then let me know. You also won't hear about cops getting involved after some guy's 1st floor apartment was broken into due to all the Pokemon collectibles he was known to have in the neighborhood. All true stories. Nobody today would even give the smallest interest to go that crazy for Pokemon anymore. When it comes to theme songs, Jason Paige's Gotta catch em all is easily the best pokemon theme song ever. It's not even close. Hell, it's up there as one of the greatest opening theme songs in all of anime. Very lame how they kept changing theme songs for every bloody season. To me, Pokemon will always be a late 90's/early 2000's franchise. The thing they call Pokemon today is just unrecognizable to me.

I was 10 in 1999, the ideal age for someone to be into pokemon at the time. most of you were still being breastfed by your momma that year so obviously, gen 1 is going to be an afterthought to you. the only reason you teens are even discussing pokemon today is due to the momentum and impact gen 1 created so that the franchise can continue milking every last penny by making pointless new generations. oh yeah, that small electric rat had a big role in helping continue the franchise as well. Pokemon was the hottest japanese import during the turn of the century and that's a fact. the sales prove it. Pokemon today is nothing compared to its glory days. R.I.P. Pokemon
