Hello hello! I'm new here but I've been lurking for a few weeks now.
I'm just giving my 2 cents about the MV and the whole comeback, and it's up to you whether you agree with me or not.
First of all, I gotta commend the girls for the hard work and patience for this comeback. I'm sure they've all been very excited with this comeback but certain circumstances delayed it.
Second, the MV (in my POV that is, I'm sort of into video-editing and have been for like almost a decade) is brilliant if you rate it overall. Of course, the company lost the data and they tried to salvage what they can. I do think the MV would've been of epic proportions if things went smoothly. Someone posted the breakdown of the MV, and by reading that, you can actually tell that this MV is well-crafted and artistic.
I am biased, I gotta say that, but I seriously didn't have it in me to dislike the MV. The purpose of the MV came across since SM did release a statement that it is of the mysterious sort. Well, it is mysterious and a tad creepy. It would've been interesting if they opted for a drama MV though.
People are complaining that there wasn't enough dance sequence. Don't you think it's a clever move by SM to tease the people about the performance? I do think it will be awesome when they perform it live. And it will give the company an option to release a Dance version of the MV maybe later on if the demand is high.
SNSD is slowly stepping out of the "box", figuratively, but people are still complaining. Eh.
Last but not the least, people aren't giving SM enough credit for this comeback. Oh sure, SNSD deserved more promotions, but really, it's SNSD. Even small petty things about them gets reported (e.g. Tiffany chewing bubblegum at the airport). The group itself doesn't need much push in terms of promotions.
The song is produced by a team that has an impressive credential in the US music industry. So, not only is the song unique and public-friendly (more than IGAB anyway), it may also appeal to Westerners. So that's killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I am hoping they recorded it in English because this would've been a preferable song to introduce to the US market than The Boys.
SM also made an effort to make the best of the MV despite the loss of their data. I remember when this news came out, most people thought it was just media play against YG, but it turns out to be true.
Even if you want the best for SNSD, some things are just out of our hands. The only thing we could do is support the group as best as we could.
But seriously though, no music company is perfect. At the end of the day, it will be business for them.
This was supposed to be 2 cents but turned out to be a dollar.
