Just a little bit of info from this week's SJ Podcast. Andy Nakatani, Editor-in-Chief of the official English WSJ, discussed his trip to Japan for Jump Festa and the short interview he had with Kishimoto. Bullet points: •Confirmation that his next series will be sci-fi. •Kishimoto said that Boruto will be a legitimate, canon part of the Naruto universe. •As such, Kishimoto is really going to supervise it. "Like, super-supervise it." •Kishimoto considers the Boruto serial to be just as important as the new manga he's working on, so in his mind he's giving them both equal attention. —Kishi new sci-fi series in the works http://shonenjump.viz.com/blog/posts/sj-podcast-ep-138 https://www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/comments/40ilhb/minor_borutokishimoto_news_from_sj_podcast_138/

Naruto assistant artist Mikio Ikemoto will draw new series focused on Boruto The countdown website for the "Next Generation" of the Naruto franchise ended on Saturday to announcea new manga in the franchise. Mikio Ikemoto, who worked as an assistant under original manga creatorMasashi Kishimoto on Naruto, is drawing the new manga. Kishimoto will supervise the manga, and UkyŠKodachi (Naruto - Gaara Hiden: SajingensŠnovel,Boruto -Naruto the Movie- screenplay cooperation) will write the manga's script. The new manga will focus on Boruto. The new manga will be titled Boruto and it will run inWeekly Shonen Jump starting in spring 2016 for one month. Ikemoto wrote the two-chapter "COSMOS" short manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in 1997 and 1999. Shueisha had launched the countdown site last month, and the countdown had featured the logo and the silhouettes of the characters from Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga — specifically, of the children of the main characters from the Narutomanga, who were featured in Boruto -Naruto the Movie-and in Kishimoto's Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring one-volume sequel manga. Kishimoto ended his main Narutomanga after 15 years of serialization last November. He then wrote the Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring one-volume sequel manga, and also worked on the script and character designs and served as the chief production supervisor on the Boruto -Naruto the Movie- film sequel. A series of novels continued the story after the manga's end. At a preview screening for Boruto -Naruto the Movie- in July, Boruto voice actress Yuko Sanpei said that she "wanted to see the films continue," and Kishimotoresponded with a wry smile, "I can't. Please let me rest now." After finishing Naruto, Kishimoto said, "During this time, I finally went on my honeymoon. Even though my son has grown as big as [protagonistNaruto's son] Boruto." Kishimoto had gotten married over a decade ago. Kishimoto attended this year's New York Comic Con event on October 8-11. He confirmed that he is working on plans for his next manga, a science-fiction story. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-12-19/naruto-franchise-gets-new-boruto-manga-supervised-by-masashi-kishimoto/.96700 http://m.cinematoday.jp/page/N0079033?__ct_ref=http%3A%2F%2Ft.umblr.com%2F TLDR; Naruto Next Gen Manga series - Supervised by Masashi Kishimoto, hence Canon. - Drawn by his assistant, Ikemoto Mikio. Expect a different art style. - Release on Jan 2016, Spring. - Possibly lasts for about a month -- Itachi is suppose to get a whole ass series based off his novels. (Izumi Uchiha might get animated(?)) https://mobile.twitter.com/naruto_movie/status/678105786866753536 Look at Salads new outfit. ♥

Netflix CEO Says Company Will Start Creating Anime Programming As we've said many times in the past, the anime landscape is quickly changing. With content creators now needing to develop shows for a global audience, and Netflix launching Netflix Japan this past September, it was only a matter of time before the on-demand streaming behemoth started looking seriously in our community's direction. It's never been a more exciting time to be an anime fan as we're starting to enter the globalization of an entire industry. Earlier today at the DealBook conference, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings mentioned that the company is constantly thinking of new ways to produce unique programming with their new focus centered on Bollywood films and Japanese anime. "When I look at our shows, we just had one come out this summer, Narcos, and it's a very different kind of show. It's an American company, Netflix, contracts with the oldest movie company in the world — a french company Gaumont — to make a production in Bogota, Columbia, featuring Brazilian actors and directed by a Brazilian — three quarters Spanish, one quarter English — and it's hugely popular in Germany. You go beyond the normal spectrum to get quality and you really stretch to the things that you can do. On-demand and the internet really gives you that power. when you have incredible distribution, then you have to open the front end of the funnel to have incredible producers around the world. We're hopeful that we'll over time make a great Bollywood show, make a great anime show. It might not be that that Bollywood show is for [showtime CEO] Matt Blank. It might be that it's more segmented, but again the internet let's you do that. I think that's the key in that enablement. But as Matt knows, making these shows is very challenging and I'm sure we'll have issues over time" This wouldn't be Netflix first time dabbling in anime as they localized and streamed Knights of Sidonia in all of their territories exclusively on July 4th, 2014 becoming the network's first original anime programming. So what does the community think? Are you excited to see Netflix getting more serious about the anime field? *Another article about it said Bollywood too(?) http://goboiano.com/news/3612-netflix-ceo-says-company-will-start-creating-anime-programming
