  1. Good singers are definitely more important to me since I listen to songs more than watch performances. Also the thing is that kpop performance standards are so high that the worst dancer from the group is still way better at it than the most popular worldwide stars. Usually the "bad" dancer blends in the background and doesn't take anything away from the performance.

Take Jin or Tiffany for example, idols who were always criticized for not being good dancers, both have energy on stage and keep up with the choreography and it's hard for a casual fan to notice the difference between them and some of the members of their group right away.

I doubt the GG is going to be the female equivalent of BTS [concept] no matter under Bighit or not. That's not how they've been marketed or pushed so far. Min Heejin x Bighit x Somu collab is why people have been excited [hyped] for years now. Even before the rebranding.

The new girl group like other junior groups are benefiting from the association of being connected with BTS. Yes, saying Bighit made things easy since people basically already think Bighit = BTS in Korea. But I suspect kmedia will still find a way to mention BTS (or even Bighit) somewhere ^^

I just feel like they could've been benefitting even more if the association was more clear and obvious to the public. They don't have (and shouldn't) to be a straight up copy of BTS but, just like 2NE1 who debuted after BigBang, people would love to see a gg who embodied their concepts and sound. IMO by having they debut in another label, even it's a sub label, it makes the association more distant and created less excitement and interest about their debut.

  3. Uh, it would bring the group much more hype if it's marketed as Big Hit's new girl group rather than another agency's (even if they technically are the same thing) new gg even if Min Hee Jin is a household name. IMO people would be very curious about a new girl group from the same people who made BTS, the female equivalent of them and this decision goes against it.

  4. She's obviously really talented and seem like a sweet person but I feel like if you listen to one IU upbeat song then you've heard them all and the same goes for her ballads. I have a hard time grasping how it is to listen to her entire albums in one seat.

It is a bummer, but like when i see articles like '' A bumped into female idol B'' and netizens be jumping to stupid conclusions,  I am not surprised they are so cautious....

Yeah, we can't put the blame completely on the companies since this situation is part of a bigger problem. I just think it sucks because it makes more difficult for idols and groups to stand out since they are all stuck doing the same fanservice and saying the same scripted things.

  6. OP clearly has a lot of feelings about this but has forgotten the most important difference (and maybe the only difference) from rookies these days and older generations of kpop. They are so media trained to the point their variety shows have becoming boring and stale. I get social media and everything being analyzed under a microscope is a big reason why this is happening but it's still a bummer.

SUJU for example had many comebacks with songs and styling that would make you you cringe but they've always been spontaneous and fun to watch. The same goes for SHINee, BigBang and many other boy groups.

  7. I agree, Crystal was super boring. At the same time watching it made me realize how much the fillers from the 90s version added to the plot and the characters... it's been ages since it was released, I've watched countless animes since then and I'm still yet to see a better portrayal of teenage girls in anime. It obviously has some flaws but overall I think it aged really well.
