I like their typical sound but this song just wasn't it for me. I wish they'd release something like PWF again.

I get you and I felt the same about KTL.

I'm talking more about people who constantly complain about not being able to get into them because their title tracks always feel similar. It's a legitimate complain and it's not like people aren't entitled to feel that way but I feel like it's useless at this point.

  2. I prefer their more vocal oriented songs like Playing With Fire and Lovesick Girls but I really liked it.

Also at this point, if you're not into BP/Teddy typical sound then you're not going to get into them at all because that's clearly not going to change.

  3. HYBE/Ador always knew what they were doing by debuting the girls while they're still so young. They wanted the uncle fans who will buy anything that has to do with their favorite member from the group.

Despite the negative comments, I'm not optimistic about this scenario. In fact, since NewJeans is becoming so successful I bet we'll be seeing more girl groups debuting younger and younger. This is only the beginning I'm afraid.

  4. Echoing the comments here about HYBE kicking her out both because the group is thriving as 5 and her presence was hurting the group financially. They were hoping her visuals alone would have make people excuse her actions but, unlike some other similar cases, she got caught too soon and what she did was too severe so most people weren't able to create some sort of significant emotional investment on her.

I actually agree. Even though I'm not a fan of Aespa, I'd say that there are quite a few groups currently active (including popular ones) who have members less talented than them but the kpop community as a whole is able to ignore their shortcomings because other members make up for them or the groups' sizes mask their issues. I'll never understand why SM execs cut so much of their girls trainees of the final lineup for Aespa, I mean they couldn't seriously believe that Giselle's lack of skills wouldn't become obvious in a 4 member group.

Exactly, it's really common. I'm usually not interested on groups who have many members like that since the music is the aspect I like the most (vocals that I find pleasant, rapping that doesn't ruin the song or is just fast talking etc) and charisma doesn't necessarily mean good music, but I feel like every group should have at least one of them to sell the performances.

IMO they cut trainees because big groups have more disadvantages when it comes to making it big outside Asia but it didn't need to be just 4 people. 5,6 or 7 are good numbers. About Giselle, I think she's talented and earned her spot on the group. She had the shortest training period so to me her shortcomings are more justified than the other members and it's soon to say she won't improve.

  6. I liked it. For once, it didn't feel like a bunch of songs thrown in one and it really showcased their voices. Not sure if it's going viral but it's better than Savage and Next Level for sure.

  7. It's terrible because it's identical to the spanish version, which is still very recent, but with a worse pace and less charismatic cast. I couldn't even finish the first episode because I didn't see the point of watching the whole thing all over again and I'm sure many people felt the same way since the original version was a huge hit.

It would've made much more sense if it was an original story with original characters. In fact, they could've even connected both series by making it be about group of criminals from Korea who decided to do this robbery inspired on what happened in Spain.

Things that many people are messing is that they decided this not because they've already declined, flopped, about to enlist or whatever. They can still drop more albums and solo stuff and still earn millions but they want to protect their legacy

    mad respect for that

They've already done and achieved sooooooo much and they don't want to burn out. They really need to sort things together, breathe and live a life out from  the spotlight.

People who think they are doing this because they are flopping are just blind haters. I do believe them enlisting played a big part on this decision but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's good for business and healthy for them to pursue their own goals, grow even more as artists.

  9. This is the smart and reasonable thing to do. They are very well established as a package deal so it won't hurt the OT7 brand and it seems like enlistment is coming, whether people like it or not. If they all enlisted together it would be a disaster financially for HYBE and there are so many things they can do as solo acts it would be such a waste not to see it happening.

Besides, I'm really looking forward Jungkook's first solo album. Euphoria is that song and considering his music taste, it has everything it takes to be a super solid pop album.

  10. If we look at old boy group big breaks, it's easy to see a pattern of most of the concepts and songs being very simple and minimalistic. Sorry Sorry, Replay, Growl, Mirotic, Again and Again and even Lies all had very basic MVs and melodies. Nowadays, I find it very hard to see boy groups doing something similar and many concepts and songs seem so noisy, dramatic and too complicated. There's no fun, just perfect choreography moves and noise.

That said, this is such a difficult situation because if you are in the charge of a company and give something like this to your boygroup, you risk them not making any impression at all. Maybe it's financially better to risk doing something big and OTT even if it won't make the general public embrace you.

I'm not sure that's even really true though. Singing live during a dance performance is hard, I think people are so used to processed vocals (not just albums, tv programs where they sing "live" etc) they don't remember what real live vocals sound like. Aespa are probably decent singers based on some stuff I've heard, but it's tough to put them with groups that sing really well live (NMixx, Weeekly, older groups like EXID, etc.) until we hear that. Basically every group sounds great if the only time you hear them sing anything live is sitting in a practice room. People tend to compare their very few carefully managed vocal performances against groups doing real live singing, which is harder, and wears on your voice. It's an interesting choice by SM, I think probably because the company doesn't think they could consistently give top performances if they always sang live, and so never letting you hear tired or poor performances means they can sell them as "great SM vocalists" since you can't compare them to anyone on an equal field.

It's true we have very little material to work with but I thought their Coachella performance was very solid and a good indication of what I said. People love to excuse bad vocals from their favorite groups by saying their songs are difficult to sing but Aespa songs are indeed difficult with their high notes and vocal runs. They did well with very few mistakes. Now their dancing and facial expressions (maybe except Ningning) needs work but this will come naturally if they have more opportunities to perform live but the talent and potential is there.

I agree with the bolded though. SM knows people nowadays nitpick (and sometimes with good reason) encores and performances in general so it seems like they are going into extremes to protect the image of their idols. The problem is that it could only work without backlash for so long because this is a company that had many idols giving amazing vocal live performances in the past so people will always have the expectation of seeing more of this.

Has anyone watched BoA's new MV or been keeping up with her?

I think it's not a secret she looks quite different from what she used to look like but my main issue here is that I keep forgetting she's in her mid 30s. Just slightly older than most of the SNSD members, yet she looks like she's in her 40s. She's been looking like she's in her 40s for quite some time, I'll give her that but what exactly has aged her so much?

I've done some digging online and apparently, the discussions about her ever changing face started all the way back in the 00s. Also by the early 2010s quite a few people noticed that she looked much older than she was supposed to be. According to BoA herself, people think she's older than she is because she debuted at 13 but I don't think it's the real reason.

I have the same impression with SuJu (maybe with Donghae and Heechul as exceptions) and BigBang too. Maybe it's the effect of fillers through the years or maybe the long hours of work along with habits like food and drinking can't be hidden like they used to be when they were in their 20s.
