[Official Mamamoo Thread] MAMAMOO & MOOMOO Forever
sparkilene replied to HimawariAmu's topic in Groups
The fan voting for MAMA was meant for one award. Mama usually has multiple categories and I wouldn't be surprised if Mamamoo gets nominated again. Though the MAMAs are the one award show that have yet to show Mamamoo any love so my hopes won't be the highest. Even if that list is fake, Mamamoo going to vietnam wouldn't be surprising at all considering RBW Vietnam. RBW could very easily pull a package deal to get a Mamamoo appearance. -

So I read a bit of the twitter convos and I have my opinions on some points. Re: Recycle Bin World: I honestly don't care about music show outfits being recycled. Especially for Yes I Am where they barely promoted for two weeks. I don't think a Moo Stylist contest would have worked because there wouldn't have been time for them to hold the contest and put together the outfits before promotions ended. For the most part, cable music show ratings are abysmal and broadcast music shows not that much better. A lot of times they will repeat an outfit they wore to MuBank/MuCore/Inki on Show Champion/The Show/M!Countdown because those shows allow the news sites to bring photographers. At least it makes sense to repeat a good broadcast show outfit for the pictures to be posted in news portals. And if they repeat outfits during festivals and what not, who cares really? They do 2340234 festivals a year and there's really no need to make new outfits for even 10% of them. Another thing I saw talked about is choreography. The topic is an old one in the fandom. First off, I want to push back on this notion that Mamamoo's choreography isn't as hard as some groups. If I were to compare Twice's choreo to Mamamoo's choreo, I don't see how Mamamoo's choreo is so much easier or more basic. I think Mamamoo, as a four member group, can't hide behind formation changes and posing as easily as groups with a lot of members can. Secondly, lets acknowledge the factors that Mamamoo has that other groups don't have: 1. Heels. I think they're the only new gen girl group who dance in pumps/stilettos. For the sake of their feet, ankles, and other limbs, they can't be running around and doing backflips. 2. Microphones. Mamamoo uses hand mics exclusively. That means that one hand is occupied and you can't do choreography that would make it too hard for them to hold the mics to their mouths to sing. 3. Live singing. Mamamoo songs have large ranges and a lot of singing. If you're jumping around this could make it quite hard on the members to do properly. 4. Ad libs. You know Mamamoo needs room to express themselves. Even the choreography they have now only gets strictly followed for the first couple of performances before they start adding their quirks to it. But I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't like to see what another choreographer could do if given a list of must haves. So I do hope that RBW starts to explore and experiment on that end. Also, they can ditch the heels any time they want. Everyone knows Mamamoo are short, we can stop trying to hide it. Finally, is RBW cheap? They're downright miserly. But even more than that, I think they don't give enough care in terms of artistic direction and concepts. I think other companies actually have meetings and talk about the concept and promotion strategy for the group. I feel like RBW just records the songs, hires a music video director, lets them do all the heavy lifting and then has someone swing by the MV set to take a few pictures in costume for the teaser pics. Even when it comes to awards stages/gayos, they don't want to take advantage of the larger venues and really try to put on a show. It's quite obvious to see where their priorities lie, and I wish they would care more. -

They aren't advertising it very clearly on MelOn but I did find the Melon Awards Top 10 nominations for this year and Mamamoo is there http://www.melon.com/melonaward/top10.htm Info is probably not very clear because international fans can't vote on the award, but I believe in k-moomoos. They got this. Of course, with awards we know it's not all about voting. Also, since Decalcomanie came out so late (MelOn is usually one of the earliest award shows) last year, I believe that it counts for this year's considerations which should give Mamamoo a big boost. If you click on the button at the bottom I think those are the songs that are in consideration and it looks like they aren't counting Decalcomanie, it's Purple + OSTs and Immortal Songs for this year. -

At the end of the day, fans were not the ones who caused any of this. I'll say it again: fans were not the ones who caused this. With the latest clarification article, folks are once again lashing out at strawmen. At the time the events happened, there was no fan outcry. It wasn't until the video was taken down and the apology was made that you saw some fans ask for screenshots and clips to be taken down. Can we acknowledge that those fans were doing that out of fear for Wheein? Can we also acknowledge that people who are scolding the fans who supposedly made RBW take the vapp down are doing so out of a similar fear for Wheein? Secondly, IMO, short of bootlegging albums and stealing other people's art, fans can make whatever merchandise they want. If you don't like the merch then don't buy it. The reasons that people are attacking GTale make no sense in a fandom where Mamamoo artbooks, fanart, dolls, t-shirts, etc. are sold by fans every day. -

I think Archery and Bowling share some similarties as 90% of the battle is aim and keeping your wrist in a good position and steady. So I'm not surprised if Wheein turns out to be a bowling ace as well. -

I'm on my phone so it is hard to post the tweet here but someone is making hats and shirts with motherpumpkin on it. TBH I want Wheein to take a leaf from Esna and release an Ahh Shit song called Motherpumpkin where the lyrics are all about telling netizens to get over themselves. Re: Fears of it turning into a t-ara like situation, I doubt it. Maybe that's wishful thinking but those rumors and exaggerations were way more serious than a legal adult drinking and cursing. But as you can see, antis are lying in wait for an opening to post all their so called controversies. So who knows. Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu -

I have to laugh because the media is so predictable about these things. I even thought my hypothetical article headline was laying it on thick, but apparently I underestimated the levels that news sites will go for clickbait. Secondly, re that netizen buzz post. I would just take something that's unverifiable and hasn't been mentioned until now with a grain of salt because antis love to twist things and straight up lie. For example, in the same nb article, folks are talking about Wheein's pretentious game memo and the Ailee DMZ vid and completely misrepresenting both situations, so why would I take their word for anything else mamamoo has supposedly done? If you have receipts, then show them. -

I highly doubt it was fans who demanded a Wheein apology, but strangely most of the rancor seems to be against fans who supposedly had a problem? Like some people have said, if fans had a problem wouldn't it have been obvious during the chat and broadcast? I was online for the whole thing and didn't see any fans complain at all. I suspect that management got involved and made Wheein do damage control. IMO, we have to place this apology in the context with that "scandal" (scare quotes intended) that occurred at the beginning of Yes I Am era with Wheein's pretentious game memos in the fancafe. Some anti-fans or sleazy journalists took the memo out of the fancafe and out of context and framed it as if she was being serious. And it made the news. While Wheein never apologized AFAIK (and I support the non-apology 100% bc she did nothing wrong), the memo was taken down. I think this is just another thing the Mamamoo fandom will have to get used to as Mamamoo is getting more popular. I remember the moment when news sites started to report and post pictures from the fancafe/instagram posts. Journalists don't care about Wheein and the rest of Mamamoo's feelings, they just want scandal and they'll take any thing that they can twist for clicks and outrage. They would love to post an "Mamamoo member Wheein goes on drunken rant laced with profanities in front of underaged fans" article. I think RBW was just protecting Wheein from that kind of mess. I have no ill will towards RBW for doing their jobs. Whether you think it's fair or not, this year has been full of scandals both self-induced and trumped up by opportunists and antis. RBW is a lot more paranoid than they used to be. -
This was a great recap. I look forward to seeing what kind of concert concept they do next. And hopefully they can bring the whole show (or at least some of the band) on a world tour!

We recently surpassed our second goal of $421 and the current rice wreath has been upgraded to the Happy Happy Event 100kg Wreath (see photo below)! For every additional $30 donated, 10kg of rice will be added to our wreath. If we can reach $1523 in donations, we can upgrade to the Special 500kg Rice Wreath. And there's more! Dreame is also having a special where rice wreaths of 500kg and up will be upgraded with balloons and they will allow us to make a video cable car ad that will be displayed in Namsan. An example of what that ad can look like is here: Once again, you don't need to donate money to participate in the project. We have also received 7 ribbon message submissions, and 2 banner art submissions. Consider sending your own ideas today; The more, the merrier. Click here to Donate/Submit -

Mamamoo is the only kpop group that I've seriously stanned and gotten deep in the fandom for. Honestly, being active in fandom and actively keeping track of what they do is just too much time, money and effort. It would have to take another group completely blowing me away to draw me into another fandom group and I think that'd be almost impossible because in the back of my mind I'm like 'fandom is evil, don't do it'. But, before Mamamoo, when I was getting more aware of kpop, I remember following 2ne1 for a bit (around the Do You Love Me/Falling in Love era) but I was never big into the fandom. I really liked their sound, and I was really drawn to CL's presence, singing and rapping. -

I think if anything these solo songs will be released separately and maybe part of a series, similar to Solar's solo cover project "Solar's Emotions". That's if we see them in the near future. But if RBW wants to do do full solo promotions we may have to wait a while. Maybe next year at the earliest. I think they'd rather focus on touring and group promotions right now. -

The close relationship between KDH and Mamamoo is not uncommon in music. Old school motown groups, newer groups like New Edition, artists like Adele, Justin Timberlake, heck kpop groups like 4minute (Brave Sound), 2NE1 (Teddy) etc, have basically found a composer or a composer group and stuck to them. It's worked out for Mamamoo and I actually support that kind of thing because the opportunities for collaboration between writer and performer increases with familiarity and access. And KDH knows exactly what the group can do. He's not going to write something that they can't perform which is sometime I see happen with other groups. Luckily for Mamamoo, RBW has a lot of in house producers and writers. So I don't think they'd have to resort to trying to get onto Black Eyed Pilsung's waiting list if they ever wanted to try something new. Sure, I also think there is a bit of greediness over KDH having credits over all the title tracks but he made the group, he can be greedy like that. And it's worked out for them so can we really complain? As for dated sound? Eh. Mamamoo has always done retro. Even their dance tracks have retro elements to them. Yes I Am has disco/funk elements to it for example. Also, while Finally wasn't a bad song, I thought it was a bit too on the nose with the current tropical house trend that all kpop groups seem to be doing and there was nothing that screamed 'Mamamoo' to me. Compare it to Woohoo another Cosmic Sound production. Amazing song, and I don't think there's another kpop group with the range to even perform that song in the studio. So I don't need them to be trying to reinvent the wheel or trying to follow trends. Just make good music that they can sing and perform well. As for their performance, they're going on their 4th year as performers and their schedule continue to become busier and busier. They are so comfortable on the stage they can easily ride on that over following any strict choreography. I think sometimes there are moments when you can see the group is clearly coasting. But it's not to an extreme level. But I know I'm not the only fan that wonders what they could do if they swapped their stiletto heels for sneakers and got a different choreographer. Look at Moonbyul with Girl's Next Door. She didn't have problems picking up and performing a more involved choreo than usual. I think it could be worth looking into switching up choreographers and pushing the intensity a bit. I believe Mamamoo can handle it.
