[Official Mamamoo Thread] MAMAMOO & MOOMOO Forever
sparkilene replied to HimawariAmu's topic in Groups
I think the immediate focus of Mamamoo should be to tour and establish themselves internationally. It will be something that in the long run will serve them very well. It seems like that is the plan based on recent announcements, and I'm 100% for it. I really hope the fanmeetings in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand go well so that they can come back and do full fledged concerts there. Secondly, Mamamoo should lean into their sexy and dynamic image. None of their peers have that image right now and rookies generally can't/don't have that image for various reasons. There is a huge opportunity for them to fill that role and really stand out and be representative of it. RBW should start coming up with excuses for a high energy/sexy comeback for Winter/White album lol. And they should come back twice next year and try their hardest to make an impact musically. Starry Night was good, but I really do think Egotistic really did something for them (and I think they know it). TV will help, but I think RBW has to be careful. I think they should shy away from anything that's too time intensive. And they should focus on shows like I Live Alone where they can be themselves and act naturally. And hopefully more music/performance based shows (hyena on the keyboard, immortal songs, etc) appear bc they always do well on those. EDIT: about Hwasa, they should release a single album, maybe 1-3 songs, with a good featuring. They don't have to focus that much on music show performances, just have a good song, good video, good production and promote it well so that it can chart highly. -

I wanted to flesh out my last post a bit. It's not like I don't do anything that would help boost Mamamoo. I currently have a MelOn pass and I primarily use it to listen to the new album. If I'm going to listen to the album anyways, why not do it where it would give them the most benefit, right? (also MelOn has all of Mamamoo's content included Immortal Song performances and other stuff that may not get rights in the US). And I gifted Blue;S to some moos on iTunes. So I don't want to come across as someone who doesn't care if they win awards, or all kill the charts. Those are good things, and if I can contribute to that, great. But I don't see the use of trying to get angry/depressed if it doesn't work out. Cause I generally think that fannish streaming of MVs and albums can only do so much if the public isn't feeling it. Zombie streaming is a very stressful task and I can see why folks can't sustain it very long. I think back to Memory era, which took place after the 2016 election and I was feeling really depressed about the future. But Mamamoo's "Draw Draw Draw/Memory" was something that I was able to took solace in. That's something that will stick with me far more than ULs on MelOn. Even if Mamamoo doesn't reach BTS-levels of fame in the world, they still made this one black girl happy with their music and performances -

And I’m glad this thread tries to keep things civil in discussions too, I think I say that in like every other post I make XD Folks don’t want to admit but this is basically it in a nutshell. I think all moomoos want them to be ultra successful international smash hits. But how many of us are okay with Mamamoo just being a “mere†success? TBH as a fan when there was literally like 10 ppl who cared about them, I’m just happy as long as they can keep making music for the near future. The odds of them getting the popularity they have now were ridiculously slim considering how the industry is (though I had faith that if wa entertainment had faith in them that ppl would recognize how good they are ) I’m kinda just happy that they don’t have to constantly prove themselves. Heck, most moos nowadays don’t have to deal with Mamamoo getting snubbed despite their success. And if stan twitter or folks on oh are calling them flops or whatever because Wind Flower didn’t instantly get a PAK on release then let them because I don’t really care what they think. Now mind you I still consider Mamamoo to be the best and most talented group in kpop. I’m a biased stan. But these days I don’t really care what other groups are doing that much. Mamamoo's performance at the 2018 MelOn Music Awards was amazing! Mamamoo always comes correct with their performance, but outside their own concerts and immortal songs (to a limit, considering the venue size) we've never truly gotten to see what they could do if given the chance to go all out. Sure, 6 minutes is nothing compared to the two groups after them that got 20+ minutes each. But 6 minutes was enough for Mamamoo to come up with a concept and execute it on a level that impressed even fans who are used to Mamamoo bringing excellence everytime. I have never been so glad that the awards were being streamed on Youtube. That meant I could watch it on my TV instead of my laptop in high quality. It was amazing, despite being early in the morning, I was screeching at my tv watching them go. I have watched the performance multiple times, like probably 15 times at least. I kinda want to be that obnoxious fan and go to all the reaction channels I know and demand they react to this performance because I need more people to feel the way I felt when watching it. I pray so hard that MAMA gives them at minimum the same leeway they got with MMAs. But I hope they get even more time. They need to impress upon the MAMA Powers That Be that they have made a collossal fuck up of a mistake by not inviting Mamamoo sooner. I want gayos to give them more time too. Mamamoo is willing to give you stellar performances and teach their peers what stage presence and talent truly means. So I need folks to get with the program. -

In the first picture you can see a weathered “Blue;s†sign. I believe that possibly there will be an element of time travel/flashback into a time when “Blue;s†was active. Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu -

The concept images are intriguing. When I heard they were filming in Hong Kong I was wondering what they could be doing. But with “Blue;s†and the first concept images being revealed I am looking forward to a slower maybe sultry type of song. Even if it doesn’t seem public friendly as a dance song, I feel like Mamamoo is past the stage for always trying to go for poppy chart hits. Let’s do some other things that may sound good. I loved Rainy Season from Red Moon. It’s still my favorite track on that EP. it suit all of their voices so well and the production was impeccable (listen to it on a good pair of headphones). I’m hoping we see more of the same (particularly more r&b tracks) in Blue;s Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu mobile app -

Everyone knows since Don't Be Happy that Mamamoo would sound awesome doing R&B. But for the folks who doubted, Rainy Season is proof. All of them sound so good. Wheein's ad libs are killing me. The harmonies in the bridge are gorgeous. And because they are such great vocalists, it's not over produced and full of auto tune. I'm really enjoying the song. -

I really liked this performance. The original song is cute and sweet and they didn't try to mess with it to make it overly dramatic. I thought they all sounded amazing, and of course, I'm so happy to hear Moonbyul get more singing lines. Also I noticed all the choreo they were doing, I think this might be the most involved they've gone for it. It was a very musical like stage. I'm definitely going to be playing this song a lot afterwards. -

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted in the thread but I’ve been kinda lurking from time to time and I wanted to post something. I have to say that I’m genuinely surprised at how hard in the paint RBW is going with Mamamoo’s promotions. I figured that last year was setting up for more comebacks this year but I was thinking two group comebacks and maybe concert appearances. I’m a tiny bit disappointed that Paint Me wasn’t another “I Miss You†in terms of popularity but since we have 3 more comebacks to go, I’m sure Mamamoo will get more chances to release more ballad songs. Star Wind Flower Sun is a favorite already. Yellow Flower is a great album. And I am glad it’s getting the love. On twitter I predicted 6-8 wins and it looks like everything is falling into place. People are kinda lowballing Mamamoo’s chances for Music Core this week but I think there’s still a shot to win there and in Inkigayo. What I am looking out for is how Starry Night performs after Mamamoo ends promotions this week and the fandom stops the streaming efforts. I think unlike Yes I Am which encountered big competition afterwards, Starry Night doesn’t have as much coming up in the near future. That could help it stick around gracefully. Finally, I’m looking forward to the solo schedules. I’m happy for Solar’s concert and I hope it goes well. And I’m looking forward to what Wheein will release soon. I've been looping Solar's teaser because the instrumental is gorgeous. I'm trying to go into the Paint Me release with no expectations, but I can't. Cause so far it looks like Mamamoo is going to do what I've been wanting them to do for a while. I didn't even look out for spoilers during the MBC Gayo performance, but after reading your posts, I'm going to agree with people who think that opening to the Boy Group Medley was a big old spoiler. And I. Can't. Wait. If we get a IS2 style emotional ballad with lovely harmonies, I will be absolutely floored and that song will be on repeat for ever. I can't wait. OMG -

There's a reason why Immortal Songs has gone on for so long. I'm glad that the ratings were particularly high when Mamamoo appeared. I've been thinking about how we're coming up on their 4th year anniversary. If you consider the average longevity of (popular) girl groups, Mamamoo is nearing midpoint of their careers. Yet I feel like there is still so much they have yet to show us. -

Just driving by to post this EDIT: I'll speak from an American perspective. Mamamoo has been invited to SXSW one of the biggest, most prestigious festivals in the US. They've been to the US to perform 3 times (Moo Party LA, KCON, SXSW). Folks in the US definitely see the appeal Mamamoo has. Also from the Korean Hallyu perspective, Mamamoo sort of refutes a lot of negative sterotypes that are held towards idols, while still claiming the idol name. So they are a perfect choice to represent Korean music internationally. While I doubt they'll ever pull a Wonder Girls and try to do full scale US style promotions, I definitely think that they'll come back to the US and hold a concert in some fashion. Maybe they'll pull a Spica and release an English song, just to have something to sing for the local morning shows while they're in town. If you have never seen Mamamoo live in person you are missing Mamamoo at their best. You must try and see them live. So I hope that RBW continues to follow the steps they have taken to do more international promotions. Also I'm kinda keeping my eyes open for what Mamamoo does during the Winter Olympic. Since they have that Coke connection, there's a small chance they may be doing more events and the chances for international exposure only grows as there are many eyes that will be on Korea in 2018. -

I created a quick compilation of Mamamoo's Rap Line It's quick and I had initially made the video for twitter so I wasn't able to make it too long. This youtube clip is longer than the one on twitter thought. Mamamoo's rap line is good and I always enjoy when both of them get a chance to shine in songs. It's happening a little more often these days so I'm glad. -

I look forward to their performance. Even though they did not have another comeback, it looks like Mamamoo is going to stay busy for the rest of the year, so it's not too hard to wait for a new album. -

^ This. Compared to most people in the Top 10, Mamamoo didn't release as much music that was eligible. Don't let people tell you that Yes I Am underperformed, as it's yet another million seller for them. I'm also still kinda confused about why Memory wasn't considered because the mini was released days before last year's awards, but oh well. I figured getting into the Top 10 this year was going to be a longshot. k-moomoos really gave it their all to make a good showing -

To be honest if they don't comeback in November they should just wait until January at the earliest. December is when music shows stop doing regular broadcasts and switch to Christmas/End of Year special. Also Mamamoo would have to compete with Christmas songs. Considering that we had a very short promotional period with YIA, I'd rather they have some time to promote a little more next time around. And besides if Mamamoo wants to do another concert they need to give some breathing room between the fanmeeting, dvd, and Solar's Emotions...for the sake of our wallets! -

Rbw is stepping up the promo for Solar's Emotions. It may be small things but it's good to see them do more than randomly tweet about it 2 days before it comes out. Maybe we can hope they actually put some of the budget into producing the mv this time around. Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu -

I haven't listened to the classical musicians reaction yet, but I agree with you. I think this is why the close relationship of KDH and Mamamoo is beneficial to them musically. He's going to create a song that fits them more than another producer would. On that note, I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of Finally. It's not bad but besides the tropical house trend starting to be played out, it felt too small for Mamamoo. I don't need Mamamoo to belt 24/7 or for them to do big band/jazz 24/7. Cosmic Sound are good producers though and they hit it out of the park with Woo Hoo, and the type of stuff they normally do fits in Mamamoo's wheel house. So I think I have to chalk it up to them trying to follow the trend but not succeeding. I think the challenge for Mamamoo is how to make pop music that fit the trends without sacrificing the things that make them unique. Either that or hope that the trends fit them.
