  1. Btw, è³´å† éœ– should be the correct Chinese name in traditional chinese (the one that Taiwan uses). The one as our current topic title - èµ–å† éœ– is simplified chinese (the one that China uses). I suggest we should change everything to fit with the official name. I'll get rid of my habit calling him Guanlin. I'll call him Kuanlin from now on.
  2. I also prefer Guanlin. It's supposed to be the Chinese pinyin of his name and I am used to this. But Taiwanese uses K so well.. I'll say both are correct. Many Taiwanese adopt English name for easier identification, maybe guanlin could do so... But I am just too used to calling him Guanlin. Sigh..
  3. I think I remember seeing these pics in soompi ulzzang thread in the past. So he was a famous ulzzang back then?
  4. It's still June... Oh god, still have to wait till August for their debut I don't wish to rush things though, GL need more training and more time for all the members to practice the dance and song, just hoping their debut song will be better than Dream Girls.
  5. Ah, it makes sense now. Wanna One 1-0-1, I just realized how they sound so similar I like Fear the most too, his voice fits well with the song. It was the song that made me stan him. I mean I thought he was super cute during the episode where Dongho help him takes revenge against JHN, but that Fear episode just solidifies my support for him. I also like Never for its dance. He's only a trainee for less than a year, definitely lacking in many ways but he showed improvement through hard work. It's baby steps but I'm happy for him for the rate of his improvement. He's definitely not "talentless" like some naysayers say, It's just his skills just need more polishing with more training. He definitely got some talent as his deep voice is an advantage for rapper position, he's also quite a fast learner, while his dance might not be perfect, it's actually quite in sync with the team and has enough energy, that's pretty good for a chick trainee. Him being in the final lineup just proves that being an idol not only requires the skills, but also looks/the charisma/X-factor, some luck, as these factors translate to votes and being popular with the public is very important. There are many other idol groups with the skills, the looks but not necessarily able to gain popularity. Guanlin is very lucky to gain high popularity despite coming to Korea for less than a year, that's also thanks to his visuals, charisma and his calm likable personality. Showbiz world is realistic. That's just my thoughts.
  6. A question I've been wondering for a while... Does anyone knows why the group name is Wanna One? I mean I know that it's voted by knetizens, but any special meaning/reason behind it? (Eg: Guan/Kuan in Korean looks like Pan thus, Pan Lin) What were the choices of names before Wanna One was voted? I remember there was "i.m.i" too.
  7. I actually like all of his hairstyles except for the one in his pre-show PR video. Short hair in Always/super hot look refreshing, it makes him look even younger.
  8. I love Lee Jin Ah's songs, she may not have strong voices like others but her voice fits her compositions well and her voice reminds me of Yozoh and Taru (K-indie singers). Her second song is so breathtaking. Maybe that's because I don't really like pop music in general except for a few really good ones, I listen more to Asian indie songs so I really like LJA's songs. Her style will be controversial, some people like it and some just don't. Truthfully, I don't see her making it to the top in Kpopstar4 as her style is SO not mainstream but I think she'll succeed as a singer-songwriter after her appearance in Kpopstar4 even if she doesn't make it to top10. I'm still thinking that whether it's really a good choice for her to be participating in an audition program but at the same time, I feel sad for indie singers having to resort to participating in audition programs to get themselves known...... Le sigh.. Edit: Her first album which was released last year (which only sold for a few hundred copies or does it even hit the 100 mark?). I really like it. Her first two kpopstar songs are from her album. http://youtu.be/8lahryss_iw
  9. His surname is Zhang, his name is actually two words: Yu-An but translator puts his name as Yuan (they combined it). Hello there! China-US relationship is nowhere as bad as China-Japan, with US it's more about the economy development and current international affairs but with Japan, it's China's old nemesis. What Japan did is totally unacceptable in the past and even though I think it's always the best to put the past in the past, it's difficult for China and Korea to move on when Japanese government attitude is not sincerely apologizing but instead, the politicians visit the memorial place to pay respect to the soldiers of WW2 (which have killed and raped many during WW2 and even regard their victims as inferior being) and also "revising" the history book to alter history and make the Japanese soldiers look like the victim or the better people. The hate on Japanese government is strong, regardless whether it's in Korea or China. Some people may hold prejudices against the Japanese people but most of them are pretty okay with the Japanese people, it's really more of the government's fault. Anyways, Zhang Yuan means no harm to Takuya since they still get along pretty well. I just wrote a brief summary on why the hate on Japanese government is so strong among Koreans and Chinese.
  10. I wasn't too fond of Zhang Yuan at first because of his overwhelming national pride but he grew on me a lot lately and is becoming one of my favorite beside Enes, he actually is very soft-hearted. I also really like Nerdy Smart Tyler and the rest of the cast are so cute, Angelic Robin, Witty Alberto, Talkative Duck Julian, Rebellious Aussie Daniel (He and Enes make a funny father-son pair), Germany Soothing Voice Daniel, Meat-Lover Guillaume, etc... this cast has a very fun and unique dynamic. I may not agree with all of them but it's always interesting to hear different perspectives. I was really surprised to see Zhang Yuan leading in the popularity poll in Korea as I was expecting either Enes, Julian, Alberto, these guys as Zhang Yuan is easily misunderstood but I'm glad he's getting more love from the netizens. About Zhang Yuan's ep3 comment on Takuya and Tyler, I actually find it really funny (although some people may find it rude) as he's so frank about his own feelings. He's not directing his dislike on Takuya and Tyler as people, but more on their countries' government and I can somehow relate to him as I, myself as an Asian from Chinese heritage (I'm Indonesian Chinese living in Singapore, both Singapore and Indonesia were occupied before by the Japanese during WW2) is not fond of how Japanese government is concealing their past bad deeds in history (it's more of their attitude) but I've no problems with Japanese people as one of my good friends is a Japanese. I just think he's brave to speak out like that, I'm actually amused by the mini conflict between China-US-Japan, it's like I'm watching real-life politics but I keep on reminding myself this is a variety show, hahahaha! (I actually started watching the show out of curiosity as I remember an article about a China representative making such comment on broadcast, I thought the comment sounded rude on article but when I watch the episode, It wasn't as bad as what I expected and even find it funny.) Papy-what is comedic gold, I laughed so hard at Zhang Yuan vs Sami. About Zhang Yuan's nationalistic pride, I think it's more like when he have strong beliefs in some things which he won't back down. Just like I don't understand Italy, Europe in general and Korean's obsession with world cup, they become defensive when it comes to stuffs like that and also innovation from their own countries. I think Zhang Yuan's nationalistic views may rub people the wrong way because of the way he brings himself, he's usually so serious and rigid so when he's defending and showing off about his own country, he comes off as arrogant as he's such a serious guy so his comments are all taken so seriously and think that he's looking down on others (which I don't think he is, he even said he wanted to try the hot springs in Japan) but when other smiley guys show off and defend their own country, people think they're funny... But I think Korean viewers have come to understand Zhang Yuan more lately and see the rise in his popularity (he's willing to admit his own country's weakness too, like lack of knowledge on public courtesy, the pollution problem which he even apologized to the Koreans). I just love how the other members love to tease him for being stiff and shy, haha! Zhang Yuan is more like those kind of guys who doesn't give the best first impression but once I get to see more of him, I'm starting to understand where he is coming from. I also admire his affections for his family and his thoughts for his own future. He reminds me of Park Myungsoo from Infinity Challenge, seem like a bad person but is actually a cute soft-hearted guy, they're both just straightforward without ill intention. Takuya and ZhangYuan's love-hate relationship is comedic gold, hahahaha! (They actually seem pretty close in real life, with them doing the ice-bucket challenge together behind the scenes), I would love them to pair up again, same like Enes and Aussie Daniel, they totally look like the typical combo of a rigid father and his rebellious son, hahaha! Out of the MCs, I like YSY the most as he's funny and is a good listener and he knows how to keep the conversation going without cutting in (SSK tend to have this problem when he disagree and try to validate his point), JHM come off as a bit inconsiderate towards other people's culture at times but he's funny most of the time.
  11. I also searched their peppermint on youtube after watching the latest episode of Infinity Challenge, haha! Then, I discovered their amazing electro swing intro teaser in their first pre-debut song, Don't be happy. Peppermint chocolate is such a feel-good groovy song, I know that collaborating with Wheesung and Kwill will bring them more attention but I just wished there were more Mamamoo's part in that song. Nonetheless, I love the collaboration! Haven't been following any new girl groups or idol groups these few years and after my bias in KARA, Jiyoung left the group, I feel nothing about KPOP after that. Not that I was a big fan of KARA's music but they were the only girl group that I most frequently pay attention to, but it was mostly because my only kpop bias was in that group. I love K-indie or less mainstream music though and Mamamoo surprised me in a good way, they're VERY different from the normal cutesy/sexy girl group trends as of late, they're not trying to sell an image but rather their musicality. For some reason, it's very rare to see a girl group singing their genre, groovy/jazzy/swing, this is my cup of tea!! Plus, they have strong dancers in the group, girl doing the proper hip hop is just WOW, they're SO on-point too. For some reason, the names of these members are so easy for me to remember!! I always have a hard time remembering the names of the members of idol groups but surprisingly, Mamamoo are easy to recognize. They got me impressed, call me a fangirl now! Can't wait for their debut! My bias may be Whee-In or Moon Byul or Solar, they're all pretty awesome! (Haven't seen much of Wha-Sa but if she's the vocalist for the electro-swing teaser then she's awesome!)
