Can't believe someone actually brought the topic up with Hoya. I think talking about him, talking about his contributions to the group, speaking out about missing him, and being nostalgic of the memories left behind is fine, there shouldn't be any ban on mentioning him in those general terms. There should be no erasure of him being a past member. We post old gifs, pictures, reminisce, etc.
But posting about his solo endeavors and future plans in this thread isn't quite fitting anymore as well. So I agree in that particular aspect. He's not part of the group, so recent updates about what he's doing I feel belong in his individual thread. The Inspirits who want to support him or are curious would go there for news.
I love L to death, but if he was the one that left, I would be posting his news as a solo act in his thread, personally.

That is just... So not the point. For anybody. Dongwoo is one of my ultimate biases so I am about as bad for him as can be but in his dynamic with Hoya he wasn't overshadowed as much as he played supporter to someone who was more of a natural leader than he was. I am pretty sure he doesn't relish his leaving, and neither do the others. Sure, as a band of six they will all get bigger parts. That is really not the price any of us wanted to pay,and the group will be diminished by Hoya's loss. Anyone can see that, he was such a big part of the sound and dance.
As for the first part of your post, I will say that Hoya has not sounded at all happy for months now, and I doubt his leaving can be put down to sheer ambition. We all heard the reports of Woollim's artistic disagreements with him, and I can see why he would think them unbearable. His departure saddens me but I can see where it came from and respect it.
Finally, I am pretty aware that plenty of people in the fandom dgaf about Hoya. Their loss frankly. Those of us who do will have no problem supporting him while remaining Inspirits. I ain't quitting him.
I almost forgot about this.
I'm not speaking about anything of a member "relishing" his leaving or what the loss of Hoya is or not. None of that was mentioned or implied. I'm looking at aspects now that the group is realistically OT6 and how the dynamic will change in the future. That was the point of my post. Dongwoo was definitely overshadowed in terms of dancing, as most supporters/sidekicks are. He barely got to show his talent, and every time there was a point dance needed to be presented in interviews, 99% of the time Hoya always did them. Dongwoo as a person is very selfless and doesn't ache for attention, so this probably did not bother him. Yet I even saw someone ask who will be INFINITE's main dancer now that Hoya left and I'm like..."???". Whether or not he likes the idea of how things occurred for him to be in that position, the reality is he needs a good amount of focus that has been missing for a long time. Especially now that INFINITE are running on seven years. He's been pretty low on popularity and, well, promotion.
Hoya's ambition had him drop from school and leave his family because they did not support him. He has a track record of moving on if it does not benefit him any longer to pursue what he needs to/wants to do. I'm not painting him in a bad light, that's the way he is as a person. It's just too much ambition can lead to risky choices. I'm not sure what his plans are now, but I'm pretty sure he won't be quitting dancing at least. His reasons for leaving will be confirmed later once he becomes more professionally active again. I'm uncertain about his ultimate decision to leave the group though and how things will go for him after, as I would with most of the members. Good on you to continue supporting him.

Hoya wasn't my most favorite member, but it's still quite unfortunate that he decided to leave the team. I can't know what's on his mind, but he's always been a very ambitious individual, that thinks about his dreams and how he can only get there. And sometimes too much ambition can bite people in the ass. I wish him luck and that it won't be a complete regretful decision on his end if he's not as succesful. I'm assuming he's got another company behind him, or will.
I'm concerned about his livelihood tbh. Unless Inspirits can split time between the group and supporting him or that he has enough personal fans, it's going to be tough. We'll see.
It's going to be weird seeing INFINITE as 6.
It's also good for Dongwoo. He's been outrageously overshadowed by Hoya in the group (I'm being real here), so this might be an opportunity for him to shine now. He's gonna have to be the main dancer from here on out. It may even work in Sungyeol's and Sungjong's favor too.

It's okay though, I just focus on only his face.

Omg Myungsoo !!! Preview of his OST for Ruler !! *__*
It's supposed to release this Thursday!
-
MBC Drama Net started to produce a movie which will include Myungsoo's life as an actor in this movie !
It's a compilation?

Please, please let INFINITE give me something different. Pleeeeeease. If I hear another Rphabet EDM song with the accompanying samey dark aesthetic MV, I will throw white sharks.
Change. It. Up. For goodness sakes. It's gonna be in the summer. Give me a summer bop that I can jam to.

Honestly, it's hard to believe that such a handsome peasant is not loved, like.

Coming from you.. You're lucky most users here are new and don't know about your history of bashing members in the bashing thread cough* sunggyu* cough

I'm not going to talk about nerds who went 2 days to college and think they know what "life" and "being busy" are lol and i'm not going to talk about hypocrites who pretend to be nice when they're trashing users from here behind their backs and expecting them to treat them nicely bc they think they don't know yet tbh and some in this thread still don't know yet.. Whoever called them the "courtney crimson" of the thread wasn't lying..
It's okay, it's okay...

He has his thread.
Plus, the point has been made I think.

Some L fans are just not really active here, and I think he has individual fans away from the group out of everyone. In general, I found L stans quiet and not as active as say, Sunggyu stans. If people's faves are being posted, they are obviously going to go on and on about it. That includes Hoya and Sunggyu. Any other member will be ignored. The least people can do in this thread is admit so instead of playing it off (and not talking about Counting Pulses specifically, if it wasn't seen, it wasn't seen). I'm personally not gonna hold it against others here because L is fine fan wise and non fan wise. And being "concerned" about a L post now that a complaint about it was brought up reeks of fakeness. It's either you were aware of it and had nothing to say so ignored it or you actually wanted to reply. I do that too fff.
Anyway, it's not a big deal. Some fans just don't gaf about something. Inspirits, in my opinion, are more member stans than group stans statistically. Now more than ever cause Woollim has done shit with them as a group and that company keeps making them lose steam by having them come into existence...once a year? They have been doing individual activities.
I bet they are not going to take any momentum from L's drama to promote them like they should have done when he came unto King of Mask Singer and got k-netz shook. Woollim is moving on from them when they're the ones that fucked them over by shipping them off overseas concerts at a crucial switch in K-Pop with new shiny groups debuting. Stupidly so, but lessons have to be taught the hard way.
I'm actually curious about how INFINITE would do next comeback, if any time soon. May they get beaten up or turn dark with aesthetics with some EDM song by Rphabet again. I'm genuinely getting bored :/. Their B-sides and Japanese releases are more interesting at this point. I mean, they kept using Sweetune before, but at least the music varied and so did the MVs, even if Last Romeo and Man In Love were hit or misses.
But it seems to be a Woollim thing. They are doing the same with Lovelyz and these girls have been around since, what, 2014? And yet still. Good luck to "Golden Child".

A VISUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol.
You with the exclamation makes it appear as if L's looking around going, "what, where?"

The main draw for L's drama is So Hyun and Seung Ho. Very strong names and beloved previous child actors. It'll be shocking if it DOESN'T do well.

Some people are concerned about his face not fitting the drama (and I'm not talking about Boadicea saying he has a princely aura). I guess if you wanna hate someone you'll find reasons to do it. Too bad for them, because Myungsoo is here to make all those bitter people cry
What a bunch of bullshit. Haters can be so pathetically desperate. He's KOREAN. Who the hell are they to dictate wtf Koreans looked like back then? And what doesn't he fit?
Show this place to me, I'm gonna let them have it.
-
Are the idiotic few really complaining about his voice? REALLY? Oh wait, I think I know from what site it was. Dramabeans?
There's always that one user.
-
It's going to be funny how we have to buy that this face belongs to a poor person, because he looks out of place. His physical features gives him a princely aura if anything.
-
LOL.
That face does not fit being poor, what even. I would question his presence there.

Okay.
That boy's face does not belong to a peasant.
He looks royal even if he's in dirty rags, like a prince who's cloaking himself as a peasant instead and trying to fit in with the poor and downtrodden. What are you doing in the streets boy, let's take you back to your well off family.

This guy doesn't see that Infinite barely have any variety show when they're in between comebacks and he's signing with Woollim as TV entertainer? ^_^' I haven't finished the season of the Genius he's on, but I liked him so far, but the jobs he's gonna have... He better find a math/engineering (I don't remember his major) related job if he wants to get a pay so his KAIST isn't useless.
Woollim actually tends to do well with their solo entertainers (i.e. look at Minseok), ironically enough. We'll see for this guy.
How much money can you even get as a host of a variety show...

You are being contradictory again, oscillating between saying they are being samey and writing bright songs. As I have freely acknowledged myself, several times now, they have had several fun songs, indeed I quoted pretty as an example. I was talking of a trend, and using Pretty again, it's one song out of an album of six, one of which, Sorry I'm Busy, is your classic braggy rapper song, but Crazy is a deeply pessimistic and dark song about betrayal, Jekyll and Hyde is about a guy waking up bloody and hungover. When I say trend I mean a tendency, not every single thing the same. You are arguing for sameness, not I.
And I am not afraid of them sucking. I have a preference (we all do, you made clear how you feel about their more highbrow concepts, which is fine) and I dislike Man in Love, which some people like, and love Bad, which some people hate. That's pretty normal, you are not going to like every single output of a band. I am saying, for me, that's a very good seam. I like, as a matter of fact, That Summer, and Cover Girl, so if they do do a bright concept, I'll give it a shot, and if I dislike it, it's not the end of the world.
They need more comebacks. Any comebacks, in fact. And more comebacks mean more songs, and more songs, by sheer numbers, will probably mean more variety. With a dominance of a theme, but a possibility of difference.
In short: I see where their latest songs are coming from; I happen to like them; it has been my experience that they make them stand out; I have expressed from the start my openness to seasonal songs; I agree they should comeback more often; if they do another Man in Love, ah well, that gave me my fave performance video of Dongwoo in a soaking shirt ever, methinks I will survive.
And that is about all I have to say on the topic.
Sent from La La Land
Not at all. I was comparing INFINITE of the past to the more recent INFINITE that we have gotten since 2014, that's the one that has no change whatsoever from the status quo. You stated that you see them as being of this dark concept that's coherent, when it's not coherent due to their previous releases and concepts in the past. Even with H, you've shown that's it mixed, therefore, it's not "coherent". I don't see what I'm contradicting.
The preference in concept doesn't matter as long as it's still good, it's time to strategize, and that's what Woollim lacks. And if Woollim Boys are promoted the same, they'll meet the same fate.
-
If Woollim Boys don't take off as expected, Woollim is screwed. They would have done it to themselves though.
Also, we've been INFINITE less for a year or a year and a half before (another stupid move by the company), lol. We can survive.
They should have just gone to the army at that time tbh. Might as well.
So, I think there are several things here that I think are worth discussing, the first of which, personally, is that while you may see the fans stymying them, I do not think that is the case at all. Few kpop labels have ever paid any attention to us and woollim least of all - otherwise we would have been seeing some change in the frequency of comebacks, to mention the very least of them. The second, is that I very much agree with you that woollim is often terrible at promoting, and that thanks to then Lovelyz is an absolute non-starter in most things they try despite having good visuals, good vocals, some dance moves when they are allowed to use them. They are being wasted and you will get no argument from me there.
What you will get an argument from me about, is that your argument seems kind of contradictory. First you say it is not them but the company choosing the themes, then that if some of the members have darker taste they should keep it for their solo/subunit and not for the group albums. I think that many of them want to do more alternative stuff; I think that Sungkyu is settling comfily into alt rock; that H are clamouring for more adult themes; that Woohyun, while not dark, is certainly dramatic and emotional in his songwriting; and that in his photography and acting L has been going for artsier, less mainstream stuff. That's five members out of seven, it's bound to create some sort of trend.
And it is coherent. Their first me was not dark per Se but all about a sort of punkish aesthetic, Be Mine MV actually featured a shootout, and while the music for The Chaser is bright, its lyrics are stalkery and obsessive as it gets. Overwhelmingly, their Japanese releases have had a rock sound or melodramatic music lines/mvs (a notable exception being 24).
Obviously, you can produce quality stuff that is bright and happy if that is what you want; I have to question how you seem to think that a dark concept is snobby or too highbrow as if that were a less legitimate choice, but clearly your taste does not run to that, which is of course totally fine.
Incidentally, I don't think their comebacks are as monotonous as you seem to imply: That Summer was bright, Pretty was bright, and while Bad was dark It was also EDM, disliked by most Inspirits here but pretty popular outside the fandom. So I don't think they are that stuck in a rut, even if do take your point on MV trends and I would welcome a clean run of a couple comebacks without myungsoo getting his face bashed in.
I would support Infinite releasing brighter stuff, because while it is not my favourite of their work it is still pretty good; but what I am saying is that I do see a trend towards more serious themes, that echoes with both members' Solo work and company brand, and that I can easily see how they became more interested in that.
All this to say the following: it would actually seem to me more likely for Infinite as we know them to have a brisk change towards happy happy stuff imposed on them than for dark concepts to be a pain to them. In my opinion, which changes utterly nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I don't 'want them to be special snowflakes'. I actually like the stuff they do, see where it comes from in their individual work, and while I wish every success for them, if I did not like a song they release (which wouldn't necessarily mean a bright song, but simply a song that answers a marketing need rather than some genuine development in their music) I wouldn't be a fan of it or be particularly happy about it. I Stan infinite because I like how they sound. I don't know what else a sincere fangirl should or could do.That's because it's not really dark, though I can see some facets of it with H. Overall though, Sungkyu portrays more of an emotional and deep rooted theme for his solos, but it's not dark. Woohyun's not dark, just melancholy due to the ballad genre, which is why I believe I didn't mention him. And H themselves go back and forth depending on their concept. I would push them towards the "cool" area.
I would say it's more "serious" in general, not "dark". Heck, H did Special Girl. And Pretty, lol. Even the units aren't in this coherent dark concept path you speak of.
But again, I don't see what the solos and units have to do with the group. They are not the group. They are supposed to be their own separate thing.
If you don't think it's monotonous and that it's not getting bland, line up, without sound, all of their recent videos, and see if there's any difference. You can do the same with the title tracks. They've also become more EDM; every comeback since Rphabet has been EDM. Like almost every single boy group out there is doing right now. They are not unique. They are not original. They are not special. Their sound has changed from the days of Sweetune. Their B-sides have different producers and the songs are still good, they're even closer to what INFINITE's sound used to be before Rphabet. Why are you so worried about you liking "their sound"? You think if they do some other concept it'll suck? Or will it suck for you?
In the end, it's not about taste. It's what's best for the group right now. And at the moment, I feel the best road for them to take is to try and step out of the sameness they've been stuck in and actually do something brighter and more fitting for the summer, including the lyrics. Keep those dark, getting beat up concepts with dance music for Fall. Do something that relates to the young people that are enjoying the warm weather or lyrics that Korean citizens can relate to at the time. Man In Love was popular when it came out, the K-fans loved it and it did really well. WALA! It came out in Spring-Summer time. Coincidence? Nope.
They came back the last week of March with it.
Lovelyz? Ah-Choo.
They came back in "sneezing weather". Still remains their most downloaded song.
That should speak for itself. INFINITE hasn't disappointed me no matter what concept they've had over their years, they can handle something lighter, without the aegyo from MIL, and it can still be enjoyable with quality. It's not going to kill them. Hell, at this point, they probably need it.
EDIT: I definitely want them to come back with a fun concept. Looking back at the MIL performances, their energy and giddiness is crazy!

...because they aren't? I mean, Woollim has a lot of faults, but they are also a company with a lot of artistic good taste and integrity who has launched some of the qualitatively best South Korean acts. And when they set out to make a boy group they didn't do it in order for them to be just another kpop boyband. I mean, no other company would have really seriously taken up Sungkyu and Dongwoo and Hoya. They looked for quality over pretty, and chose people with a certain kind of interest in some kind of music. Infinite have always been dark, and the fact that they have gotten darker is only coherent - it's clearly what they enjoy doing.
I know Pretty carried them through but if you look at the rest of Fly Again, Hoya and Dongwoo's hip hop themes are dark as hell, and they wrote most of the songs. 27 dropped any commercial pretense of Another Me and went straight for the indie rock Sungkyu has always wanted to do. Myungsoo has been trying for years to make people see him as a legitimate artist and not just a pretty face, and I think some of his latest acting work shows that. And even if Write.. was not dark, Woohyun's sound is more like classic Korean music than everyday pop.
And if you ask me, I am just fine with that. The Woollim CEO has a lot of problems, among them allowing the boys some artistic freedom (that subterfuge Hoya had to use just to write some lyrics sickens me) but when you ask them about that freedom, they aren't saying "we want to do some cheesy common songs." Incidentally, they did do a normal summer song, That Summer last year, in case you wanted a break from the grimness.
I like Infinite because unlike a lot of kpop acts out there, they actually have some artistic aspiration and coherence and not just your common or garden "what is the concept in vogue rn?". Sure, if they want to throw a bone to the godawful taste most knetz clearly have and give them a harmless Christmas sop, they can do that. But if you the dark is bad and boring then I am afraid they aren't going to make you very happy. It's not like BTD and The Chaser and Paradise were all puppies and kittens.
Is it what they enjoy doing or is the company choosing for them? That's a pretty big claim to make, considering that they were extremely playful and happy when they were promoting Man In Love the most out of any of their title tracks. INFINITE didn't even start out dark. Come Back Again wasn't dark, it was guitar riffing, MJ inspired goodness. They returned with She's Back, which is a cheerful song and what I had in mind when I stated to have a comeback concept where they aren't dressed full of colorful, MIL clothes, full of aegyo, but rather stylish, casual ones, dressed up. There was Nothing's Over. The only dark concept thus far was BTD. Then we got Be Mine. Which wasn't "dark" either. It was more of a cool level like Come Back Again and The Chaser. There was no dark theme or permanent dark concept with them at all. That only begun becoming overused when Rphabet took over their releases. So no, there's nothing "coherent".
And just because a song isn't about obsession, dark emotions, or them beating each other up in a video, does not mean that they can't be quality songs. Nor does it mean they are less manly and cool. We're not talking basic, generic girl groups.
INFINITE H is a sub-unit away from the group and so is Sungkyu as a soloist. The whole purpose is for them to drift away from INFINITE's music into what they like to do. I see no reason to count this in.
What I'm seeing is people wanting them to stick with the repetitive, bland, darker, "too-deep-for-youz" concepts and MVs they're doing (which ironically, makes them like all other boy groups now! :D) and in turn, you are inhibiting, yes, inhibiting, them from progressing and expanding. Changing to a more summer-oriented song does NOT equate to changing their style of music. Style of music can stick no matter what type of concept they do as they have shown with all their past songs, so it's even a complete and utter non issue.
All this "I want them to stick to the dark concept because I prefer it" is just making them stay in the same lane and stability, not fully utilizing the potential they still have to go even further and, you know, maybe have a hit that isn't just Be Mine. Sometimes you got to at least strategize a good way to what they know works with the public and keep their integrity. That can be done.
If they don't?
Woollim is already falling behind. INFINITE are stuck in the level they are because of the reason I mentioned above and fans placating that they stick to "dark" concepts only. Lovelyz have been surpassed by legit every other girl group that isn't OMG, etc. There's something wrong here. That stubbornness (that fans share with the CEO apparently) is what eventually will bring the company down.
So the real choice is either one wants them to stay being special snowflakes that are "different" (not really anymore) from other boy groups so one can feel such pride at how special~ they are or one wants them to change it up and maybe have a more higher probability of hitting a chance to stay in MelOn top ten more than two weeks and gaining attention.

INFINITE still ave potential if you ask me. Their Youtube views are better than they ever were even when they were at their peak, so either they gained more fans to stream or there are more people interested or both. And look at how successful their variety appearances were, which should be done a lot more. Way more. Sacrifice and put them everywhere, preferably BEFORE their comeback or in the beginning of it.
It seems to me the only thing stopping them is the belief that they've reached their peak and that's all they will ever be currently despite (even Woollim thinks this, so it's kind of like, what do they call it? A self-fulfilled prophecy) evidence to the contrary.
Woollim just needs to know how to market. As we speak, INFINITE are still supporting the company financially. So either they step their game up, or they aren't going to survive.
If they are going to comeback in the summer or spring, they need a comeback to fit summer and spring. South Koreans love their seasonal songs. I repeat, South Koreans love their seasonal songs. And yet all INFINITE ever does now is be dark and gritty or cool. Regardless if you prefer that, it's very one note at this point and stale. You can pair up their recent MVs and they all look the same. They also always get beat up. Personally, it's so boring. Change it up already.
It's the same thing if it's summer, would you listen to some song about obsession again or whatever, or an actual summer bop that you'd want to blast out of your convertible as you drive down the highway in the hot summer air to the beach? Make the lyrics, not gawdawful like girl group songs these days, but relatable.
It doesn't have to be cutesy either. Like, why can't they just be a natural, normal, every day concept of guys. She's Back did it, and it wasn't juvenile, just natural.

Just one quick thing! Are there any Myungsoo stans here? Please dm me if you are one, or reply to this

Please don't hide
:O
Are you collecting data?
One wouldn't believe it with how visual stans usually tend to act, but L stans actually are on the downlow and aren't that loud or vocal (or that active). Sans threads when we show off his beauty cause it's crazy sometimes.
And when bitch ass haters try to come for him.
I love snatching their ugly weaves.
