Which male idols do you think are gay?
kweenjiyong replied to cold soba's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
Some guys I know didn't even realize they weren't attracted to women or were gay until they had their first boyfriend or gay sexual encounter... I'm sure that's even more common in strongly homophobic societies like South Korea. I wanted to add what I posted on my blog about this, shared with me by a Korean fan (http://blog.naver.com/amorlolita): "Many Koreans, those who don’t hate gays as well as internet users (also including men), know the gay meaning of “bottomâ€â€¦ the same slang word in Korean is ‘마짜’, but the Korean slang is only used by gays. Internet users (ex: DCInside, todayhumour) know and use “bottom†and “top†when they talk about gay sex positions. And people also use ‘아래’ and ‘위’ in the same context of gay sex positions, which can be translated literally to English as “bottom†and “top.â€" From what I saw on my twitter feed, the Koreans I follow all understood the gay meaning of "bottom" and freaked out as soon as they saw his instagram like. So... yeah, I feel skeptical that it was lost in translation for Jiyong. Especially since he's a very heavy internet/social media user. But who knows? Lmao. -
Umm... I care because that person was being heteronormative and perpetuating problematic ideas about celebrity sexuality. If you (general you) think other people should be open-minded about the possibility that Jiyong is straight, then everyone else should be open-minded about the idea that he's bisexual or gay or something else, instead of saying things like "it means nothing" when he does something potentially gay. Maybe people don't realize how problematic that is, but it perpetuates the idea that everyone is straight by default and any possible evidence that they're not straight "means nothing." I would just like people to take it into consideration and be more careful with their words.

Where on earth are you getting that I'm angry or need to calm down? Don't be so hypersensitive... I'm not pissed at you, but you're being heteronormative and I'm just calling you out on it.

Lol, so when I like gay-related things on instagram, it's an expression of my sexuality (because it is)... but when Jiyong likes gay-related things on instagram, "it means nothing"? How do you know whether it means something or not? Are you Jiyong and/or do you know him personally? Unless you're certain that he's straight and none of his gay-related likes mean anything, you have no basis for saying that all of his gay-related likes "mean nothing". If we're talking about delusional bias, I think you're the one who should be more-openminded.
