This is how I was feeling until the end of episode 6. I'm sold to RinSan now. Nothing can stop me

Konjo, you're back!!! Hahahaha lucky you that you can choose your team. I'm still miserable here, swaying between the couples...

Guys.... I can't with this drama.. it's so addicting and play with my emotion. I haven't choose which team I'm on. I got so confused, everytime WonSan moment happen, I root for WonSan. And each time RinSan moment happen I also root for RinSan. But also, I'm sad that whoever San chooses, the friendship between WonRin will never be back to the way before. Yes it maybe strengthen their bromance/friendship in the end, but thinking all the painful process they have to go through... I just caaaaaaaaaaan't. Also I can feel how difficult San would feel. She cherish both guys equally just in different ways.
I swear, this drama will be the dead of me... ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

I so love the first 2 (4) episodes. Been meaning to write about it but I'm so busy at this the moment. Maybe later. So it's nice reading all your thoughts and discussions here.
I need to spazz about this drama, which I am LOVING.
These first eps, while not perfect, are setting up what promises to be such a rich and compelling story. Song Jina does characters well, and it shows. The King In Love is all about its characters--and you care, because the characters feel tangible and real. I feel like this extends to the other major supporting characters, and not just the core trio of Won, San, and Rin. At the moment, my two fave supporting characters are Song In and King Chungryeol.
King Chungryeol is definitely not a good king, based on what we have seen, and he doesn't seem to be a good father as well. But his relationship with Won is so intriguing. He seems to both hate and love (albeit grudgingly?) Won at the same time. There is disgust and fear, there, too. But what I love is that he recognizes that Won is not who he projects himself to be. He KNOWS Won has depths he hides from the world. Yet I don't know just how he feels about this "real" Won. I want to see more of that relationship.
Song In is definitely this world's Littlefinger. He's the one pulling the strings, but we don't know why (yet). But he's so charismatic onscreen that I want to see more of him. I like my villains smart, because what is the point of heroes triumphing over a stupid bad guy? So I am stoked that Song In seems to be just that.
I also wanna talk a bit about Minister Eun, who we see loves San so much, but who, according to character descriptions, is also corrupt/evil. So I am waiting for the moment for when that tension erupts, and when San learns who/what her father really is.
But really, this show is ALL ABOUT Won, San, and Rin. Their dynamic is front and center, and I am TREMBLING TO PIECES waiting to explore this tangled relationship to the end of its tether. LIKE GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. All the ingredients for such a meaty and rich story are there: love, trust, friendship, jealousy, guilt, secrets, ANGST. I don't normally like angst, but this angst is shaping to be so heart wrenchingly beautiful, I am prepared to go along for the ride.
You really can't have this story without the three of them. Won is the central, main character, and he is most fleshed at this point, but this story is about how he becomes the King as shaped by the two biggest forces in his life: his greatest friend, and his greatest love. Only two forces, because these are the only two he has let "in" his wall. Won is a superb character, and his "Janus" description actually simplifies the layers of Won's torment. He is to be king, and is used to taking things (and people?) as his right, but he also thinks he is undeserving, but feels that he should deserve the crown, which is why he is working so hard behind the scenes. Siwan is so, so, so great at this role. It's subtle, but he really imbibes Won so much. Currently, he is acting the best, imo. Yoona and Jonghyun are good, don't get me wrong. But Siwan is just brilliant. And I fervently hope that the more scenes among them would bring out the greatness in the two, because it is there. The chemistry is there! The foundation is there! Just the spark is needed!
Yoona does bold characters really well, so I think San suits her. At this point, though, we know about San's inner thoughts/conflicts the least. She seems happy and well-adjusted, but there is that brimming sense of aborted purpose. I hope that this side is explored more as her character expands. Right now, she is merely an object--of Won's intrigue, Rin's childhood crush, the villain's plot. But her character has been established as a go-getter so I expect/hope that to change soon, especially when they made it a point to show that 12-yr-old San was badass enough to pick up a sword against hired assassins and focus on the snake tattoo on black mask's hand. You just know that she is about to do something. I can't wait.
But Rin, Rin, Rin. I have never, ever second-lead shipped, but I may just do that with this show, because Riiiiiin. First to see San, but too late to hold her hand. Helped San on the bridge, but got left hanging (literally, lol) as Won and San made moony eyes at each other (still so funny hahaha). Rin seems to be set up as the passive second lead, but I doubt that. We have seen that he is sharper than he first appears to be, and that he is actually active in helping Won with whatever the latter needs. He is utterly, utterly, devoted to Won, and I love that about him. His father actively cautioned him against being Won's actual friend, but he dove into that role and never looked back. Even now, when he thinks of or does something for San, it is because of Won. But he is also keeping a big secret from Won, and this secret is about something that fundamentally shaped Won in his childhood. Oh, the possibilities! Hong Jonghyun, to me, is perfect as Rin. I love his stoic facade, and his little smirks, and his swoon, delicate hands hahaha.
BUT THIS TRIO. The possibilities are endless. I am immensely enjoying their bickering, lighthearted dynamic, but I am ready for the show to spoil us with their rich, layered, friendship/love entanglement. Because Won has never been intrigued by anybody as he is by San (and has never had anybody he was devoted to, except Rin), and Rin has never coveted anything Won has or wanted, except, maybe now. And the question remains: what does San want???
Anyway, I have spewed enough. This show is certainly not perfect (I have a few gripes with editing and continuity), but that hasn't dimmed down the excitement when I watch (and I have watched the episodes multiple times). I can only hope that the show continues to play on its strengths and that it gets better and better. It doesn't seem to be a "buzzy" show, but it is so, so, solid. And for the first time in a long time, I want to talk about a drama. hahaha. Anyway, last word: it is super super interesting that it is Won who first repeatedly pushed Rin to get closer to San (Foreshadowing??? Show, please be smart!!!!)
Love reading your opinion. I agree with your opinion on many parts. ðŸ‘ðŸ»

I don't have viki pass, i guess i am gonna have to now. I usually like to watch it on dramacool since they sub fast so i guess they are not subbing The King in Love as fast as other drama. Thanks

It's viki exclusive, so we only rely on viki for subs. Sites as dramafire, dramacool etc aren't official sites. It means these sites don't have legal right to air/subs drama. They usually use/rip subs from legal streaming sites such as viki, dramafever, Viu etc (paid/subscription fee needed), re-encode the video and post it to their site so people can stream for free.
The downside of being viki exclusive is viki is slower to subs, more over for sageuk it's even slower. But the quality of subs is superior than Dramafever or Viu. Dramafever is the fastest, but for TKIL they don't have license.

I think this is a good start!
Good start.. good start..
I just wanna say I love the casting dept. they really were so detail. The kid actors are so in synchronized with the adult actor in everything, the looks, acting, way of speaking, even WonRin heights. Totally match!
And the kid actors.. wow. Very good ones. I fell in love (again) with NDR. Boy oh boy that lad can act!!
Also love the fast pace of the plot. I hope they keep this as interesting as the pilot episode.
-
hows does that chanel work? does it come with eng subs in the airing time?
Yes. But for the first week they delay 1 hours because One is still airing Sassy girl final week.
Tonight I ended up streaming, after that watch on One. The pilot episode was so good. I will talk again tomorrow, it's already late at my time. I'm off to bed now.
-
D-Day..
Gosh I'm excited but also nervous😶
I'd be watching the first episode via One.
The King in Love, fighting!

how is TKIL faring against School 2017 promotion wise?
which is more anticipated by korean viewers?
anybody have any idea?
school 2017 is mostly searched on naver, mbc does not promote the king in love enough, thank god for yoona cfans
TBH, MBC is known for the least in doing promotion for their drama amongst the 3 TV, especially if compare with SBS. For TKIL they try, I mean for Mon-Tue drama, MBC is going extra for TKIL promotion, but of course still in their standard ðŸ˜
Yes for searched word on Naver, School2017 beat TKIL.
School 2017 channel has 3,171 subscribers
TKIL channel has 2,167 subscribers
I still haven't check the channel for falsify/fabricated. So IDK how many subscribers for it.
Looking at the numbers, I think it's wise to keep our expectations low. The competition is stiff anyway. I focus more on public acceptance than rating wise. And it seems that the team also aware about this. They don't even make rating promise.

The poster looks too orangey? Lolol.. sigh..
I'm just gonna let it go and focus on other things. Maybe they will release another poster or whatever.. 😅😅
Maybe bc yoona and siwan have bigger brand names so they are gettinh pushed or maybe mbc just wants to mess with the viewers.. who knows. Would yall want them to follow the book too or not? I don't mind the strong promotions for san and won rn but i'm still hoping that they did stick with san ending up with rin. How she didn't give false hope to won and was so sure of rin is one of the reasons i love her character. i think i'm gonna be pissed if she's gonna be confused in the drama lol.
Yeah, I don't want wishy washy heroine. I love San because she never wavered about her feeling.

Agree with School 2017, that's why I said I'm not so sure about this drama. And the last series, school 2015 was meh. But since it will be released on the same date, the audiences curiousity might be divided and impact the rating a bit. Not for long run, because their segments are completely different, school series is more suitable for younger viewers, while TKIL (damn I'm so used to TKL lol) is aiming general public. When Falsify starts, 24 Jul.. that's the real competition for TKL.I don't think school 2017 rn is that of a threat. I think the last one barely hit 10 % even with kim soohyun. It could have been concerning if kim yoojung's casting went through, considering moonlight's success but who knows really..
I'm really looking forward to eun san's character cuz she's not your typical dumb female lead. I have high hopes SJN didn't butcher her character. I'm watching ruler and ksh's char is so damn frustrating to me.
Edit: oh i think bride of the water god will also air at the same time.
Also curious about EunSan. I hope SJN works miracle and gives justice not only to one characters but let all of them shine together.
Edited:
Ah, SW will enlist before TKL airs. And the PressCon will be held on this July 3.. so sad. But please take care yourself SW, and see you again in 2 years

According to dramabeans from awhile back:
"The writing team for The King Loves was unusual in and of itself in that it’s credited to a company of writers called Airborne. From what I gather, the story is that Airborne is made up of Song Ji-nah’s mentees, and she was initially only going to participate in an advisory role, like a creative director of sorts. However, due to the complexity of the plot and characters, Song Ji-nah got more and more involved in the writing process and essentially became the lead writer, though they’re still undecided as to whether they will change the writing credits to include her name."
Song Jin-ah is a quite famous scriptwriter. I love bunch of her dramas so I hope this wont be any exception. I'm loving the teaser so far, too!
Yes.. SJN has quite reputation herself. Although her recent dramas don't get very good rating, Healer/Faith (Good Doctor), but those drama never considered bad drama. And if you read her interview about TKL, she seems to be so passionate talking about this drama. She said she intended TKL not to be cliche romance between man-woman only, but romance between human being, and that include friendship etc. I hope TKL can deliver this. Fighting!!
is Falsify that much of a threat???
Yoona wears a very minimum make up, I've never seen an actress having on this little make-up on Saeguk drama. I prefer her to have a bit more touch for her make-up. But she is still so pretty
Not only falsify, KBS will also release new drama on the exact same date as TKL/TKIL, School 2017. Although I am not so sure about this drama, but aside from already has "Brand" from School series, they have that former ioi member as cast. So for younger generation, maybe they prefer this drama.
So yeah. The competition will be so fierce July 17. That's why I only aim for decent rating. Just give me good drama, strong plots, good acting and no inconsistency, then I'd be content.
Just info, SJN in her interview, she's so realistic. She said considering the situation nowadays, she'd be happy with 10 for rating. She knew how hard for drama to achieve high rating compare to the old day. She only hope the viewers get new feeling and experience watching TKL/TKIL..

THAAAANNNK YOOUUU.... â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸
Oh.My.God... I'm crying now.. it's just so beautiful, the teaser turn out so well. Starting with the trio running happily and then they cry their hearts out.. their friendships, sobs... I'm ready for my heart to be torn by #TheKingInLove I just can't decide which team I am.. team WonSan/RinSan.. or I might just be team TKL..
I also will not try to worry about the rating, although ofcourse I really hope the drama got decent rating...

So they change the writer.. I questioned about this couple weeks before because I read some Japanese interview that said SJN's the writer of TKL.
Anyway I'm waiting for MBC to start the promotion.. it's less than a month now..

Recently I saw articles about PD interviews and writer interviews. But I'm confused because they interviewed Song Ji Na as the writer of TKL. The interview occurred 22 Jan 2017. Did TKL change writer? What happen to Park Chan-kyung and No Sun Jae? The article is in Japanese, and still hasn't had the proper translation
Here's the link of the interviews:

I seriously hype for TKL.. and Siwan really suit period outfits.. he got that grace as King. Can't say anything about HJH, his pics is so faraway.. and my Yoona, she looks like a kid.. hahahaha cute San.
Here's an explanation of the scene (minor spoilers from the jejudo filming)
Episode 2
Won and Rin go to meet a wise old man, from the Tang dynasty, in hopes of learning from him. The wise old man then proposes a showdown between them and his disciple San.
Won is hiding his identity from San.
Thank emo ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ‘ðŸ»ðŸ‘ðŸ»

Since I haven't seen anyone posting these pics.. So here, our Won, Rin, and EunSan..

Agree.. I'm still overwhelmed now. Gosh. How can you just not feel their struggles.
