Do chinese idols debut in Korea just to get recognition?
Lexi.K replied to iKnife BurnCat's topic in Random
But it's even harder to make it from the ground up in China given it's such a competitive industry. Chinese K-pop idols from established groups have one hell of a headstart in comparison to their non-idol peers. They get deals because they have a following and can sell, they will also get acting opportunities because of their hype and so on. There's just no comparison with someone with no following nor recognition working their way up. -

YG responds to Jennie and gd dating news

I don't know what to think. They meeting when she was underage doesn't mean he groomed her, but the power dynamics between them make people rightfully raise questions. She was 14 when she started being a trainee and he was already one of the biggest k-pop artists. What I do know is that at least it's not as creepy as Choiza and Sulli, given they are coworkers and much closer in age. 7 years difference isn't that bad. Still, this couple is somewhat unsettling lol. Generally my first reactions are wow, not wtf lol. -

Could China be forcing Chinese kpop idols to leave their groups?

If by forcing you mean offering more money, fame, and power in better conditions in comparison to the k-pop idol industry... -
Top 20 Celebrities List for 2020 according to Forbes China
Lexi.K replied to Lexi.K's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
I was surprised as well. The first time I paid attention to this list, in 2017, he ranked 5th, and is now 44th. Let's see how well he does this year. And yes, his visuals are stunning. While Victoria did say her contract expired and she would leave SM, the last we ever heard of that was SM denying and saying they were negotiating. Nothing was made public ever since. Maybe Victoria doesn't wanna close all doors in SK as she spent 8 years promoting there constantly under f(x) until the Hallyu ban hit.- 12 replies

I think he's seen how other male celebs have had their reputations tarnished for cheating scandals and is choosing to not acknowledge it to not make it worse for himself. I think it has worked to an extent, as I don't see him getting near as much as the blowback Kangta or Jaehyun did (not mentioning Lee Santa because that was a whole other level). His silence speaks volumes, and fans who have an issue should pick another bias that doesn't conflict with their morality instead.

Top 20 Celebrities List for 2020 according to Forbes China
Lexi.K replied to Lexi.K's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
'The Untamed' has done wonders for his career. I have not seen it yet, but apparently it's really good as it got critical acclaim and a faithful international following. He also was in a Chinese-South Korean group called Uniq, from Yuehua Enterntainment exclusively (not a partnership with a Korean company like WJSN). Don't know if he counts as a k-pop idol, which is why I didn't expand on his profile.- 12 replies

Top 20 Celebrities List for 2020 according to Forbes China
Lexi.K replied to Lexi.K's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
Other names in the list that caught my eye: #36 Johnny Huang (Huang Jingyu): I know him from 'Addicted', the web series that got banned in China because of LGBT themes. I'm glad his career is on a great track despite that setback. #37 Z.TAO (Huang Zitao) #41 Jackson Wang (Wang Jiaer) #58 Donnie Yen #71 Gabrielle Guan (Guan Xiaotong): Luhan's gf! She's also on the list. Power couple goals. #91 Jackie Chan: I think he will be on this list until the end of times.- 12 replies

Exactly. LSM is not innovating here at all. I think he's deluding himself into thinking China will open their doors to k-pop again. No, they will not, especially considering they have their own idol industry now. There's no reason for them to allow competition to their relatively new idol industry when they can opt not to. Honestly, I think LSM is scared of having to explicitly aim for the West, as SM's attempts have been unsuccessful, and he's now rooting for what so far has brought massive revenue: China. Times have changed though, and k-pop acts don't have half the chance in China they used to have before. China doesn't need K-pop, and SM needs to move on.

China has been steadily growing their idol industry for the past decade, particularly, the past 5 years. Soon enough, there just won't be enough market for k-pop as a niche as it's been filled with national product, to put it in some way. China has brought a lot of money to SM, but targeting that market alone is unsustainable in the long run, especially with the never-ending political problems and the fact many Chinese k-pop idols are just offered better things if they go back to China rather if they stay in k-pop, with plenty having left.

Ikr? He's gorgeous. Also he's from Japan and he looks half-asian to me.

Exactly. One is clearly much worse than the other. I think sexual deepfakes are more in line with revenge porn in the sense that if unchecked it can ruin your life, meanwhile RPS are most of the time a victimless crime (unless there are minors involved). One crosses the line between fiction and reality, but no one thinks fanfics are real. Besides the deepfakes we're talking about are literal pornography.

[NB] Kim Hyun Joong revealed he's been suffering from a panic disorder
Lexi.K replied to Mccuish's topic in Netizen Nation
Not @ this guy bringing up mental heath issues to gain sympathy points when he has flat out refused to take full accountability. And why the fuck are networks still giving him a platform. They're part of the problem as well. -
Generally I am filled with regret, but honestly, I cannot say I regret much from 2020, because I did not have much explicit opportunities in the first place.

Context: For what is worth, when Papen did the shoot, the Hagia Sophia had been a museum for over 84 years. It being reverted to a mosque by Erdogan, was met with criticism and opposition by Turkish political opposition and internationally as it was seen as an unilateral move to give preferential treatment to Islam in a secular state and therefore appeal to the Muslim majority and securing his position in power. For those who don't know, Erdogan's presidency has been met with criticism for it's democratical slide and authoritarian tendencies. I don't know what the laws are, but mosque or not, 7 years seems pretty excessive, and it being brought up just after the Hagia Sophia was reverted to a mosque raises red flags to me. I don't think anyone should be covertly punished for blasphemy against anything. It's not the middle ages anymore and Turkey is meant to be a secular state. I don't know if this would be even an issue in Western countries as it's meant to be a professional shoot, not random exhibitionism.
