Which one has more cultural impact; Naruto(Anime) or NCT127?
Lexi.K replied to The Hoe Wears Prada's topic in Random
But NCT 127 isn't even the Naruto of k-pop. -
It honestly depends on the group and which point of their careers they are. For example, Shinee's cute concept in their early years was enjoyable to me (while such concept from X other group made me cringe), but I don't think they'd fit such concept now.

I guess I've been out ages ago. I don't partake in what's considered fandom stuff (streaming, buying, watching all varieties), but when it comes to musical releases of my fave k-pop artists I try my damnedest to be always up to date.

Uh, how can you say AN ENTIRE GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT is founded on misleading information by citing a SINGLE UNSOLVED CASE in which there's no consensus among the public? It seems you're seeking to discredit BLM, which is why everyone else hasn't even bothered. Edit: Besides, as sad as the loss of his life was, Kendrick Johnson is not among the #SayTheirNames roster because it seems not even BLM supporters reached consensus on what really happened to him.

Good point. Idols not only might get silenced by their companies, but they could also be really opposed by the public if they speak up. Remember the female idols who were bashed because they were caught reading feminist books? Not only social issues are deep rooted, there's heavy opposition to activism and support for progressive causes. Thing is, such oppresive climate won't change if prominent people remain silent. There must be some sensible and empathetic k-celebs out there, and I hope they find the courage to speak out.

This is important, and I also included education aside from speaking out. The ideal thing should be that not only celebrities, but people as a whole are more educated on diversity as state policy. I'm mainly speaking because the influence of celebrities is undeniable. #MeToo started in hollywood, and has influenced South Korea profoundly, which is why all these trashy men could be outed. These few celebs that have spoken up in both against Nth room and supporting BLM are influential. Even if it's not most of them like it happens with US celebrities, I'd appreciate if we had few K-celebs consistently speaking out from time to time. It happened with Nth room, it's happening now, and it should have happened with Burning Sun.

I never said that silence meant they disagreed, I said that it is part of the problem. Violence is prevalent and normalized greatly because of the ones who refuse to acknowledge it. While you may have a point in that activism shouldn't be forced, and that some of them just won't care enough for it to be authentic, it is still fucking weird that, for example, not a single idol openly bashed and criticized Seungri's actions, especially the ones that had open public interactions with him. It must have been a shock to them like it was to us initially, which is why they should feel legitimate disgust at a personal level. Yet they still remained quiet when the victims needed the most support they could get.

Did you even read, or are aware of k-pop news at all? Some idols spoke against Nth room, and others are now supporting BLM.

As we all must know, the unwarranted killing of George Floyd at the hands of police was a catalyst for a phenomenon I think I have not seen before: activism at a global level. From East to West, a lot of people, famous or not, are commenting and showing support for Black Lives Matter. Even some idols, some of which haven't spoken up on social issues before, are showing open support for BLM. What's strange and somewhat sad, is that said idols are awfully quiet when it comes to issues in their homeland. I love that these idols support BLM, we all should, but why were all of them, including other big Korean celebs like actors, awfully quiet last year with the Burning Sun scandal and molka chat rooms? I gotta give recognition to the idols that spoke up against Nth room this year, but, where were them last year? This motherfucker Seungri knew like everyone in the idol industry. A lot of them were kekeing with him, why didn't at least one of them blast that bastard and dragged him by the hair? South Korea is riddled with social issues. Why is it easier for them to speak up on international issues and not those from their homeland? I know that, in the case of idols at least, they're expected to be apolitical and safe, but there's a limit to which the company loses its power and staying silent is 100% the choice of the idol. For example, Suzy is no stranger to supporting comfort women and she even got in trouble for asking for a fair investigation in the Yang Ye Won case. And who can forget the late Jonghyun and Sulli, who were so outspoken with progressive outlooks on gender and sexuality. It's not like their companies kicked them out for that. To an extent, collective silence is part of the problem. Like I said, South Korea has an awful lot of social issues, and the most prominent ones are violence against women, homophobia and colorism. These privileged and rich people need to educate themselves and speak up on the bullshit affecting their own country because people are suffering.

I mean, it sucks, but at least it's not "white people can be victims of racism too ".

Article: Big Bang's Taeyang "Min Hyorin, the only woman who inspires me to change" Source: Mydaily via Nate 1. [+1,150, -132] Taeyang is the cleanest member of Big Bang, I wish you happiness ^^ 2. [+871, -91] Youngbae is the truest out of YG 3. [+761, -71] Beautiful and handsome, they're such a good match. I'm going to check the video out on YouTube on my way to work later. 4. [+71, -14] You guys are really calling him the cleanest? ㅋㅋㅋ You really think he didn't know what his own members were doing? Isn't he best friends with GD? You really gotta give YG credit for their media play. 5. [+51, -1] I remember older videos when he said he would stay back in the practice room when the other members would go out and I thought his personality was weird but he's actually a kind person who's nice to his juniors, enjoys cooking, and gets married to his first love. 6. [+47, -8] I approve of a solo album but I am against Big Bang getting back together 7. [+33, -7] I wonder how he was able to survive doing music with a bunch of mentally sick people without letting them get to him? ㅋㅋ Amazing 8. [+33, -6] Leave the group and go solo. Don't hang out with bad kids. 9. [+28, -3] There are people around you that you assume are the hard partying types but they're actually innocent and deep like Taeyang ㅋㅋ 10. [+26, -4] The only normal member of Big Bang 11. [+25, -2] YG kids, you see this? Watch and learn from him. Look how beautiful and happy they look. 12. [+24, -1] I like that he isn't a tryhard like GD, all up in your face like Seungri or Daesung, and doesn't act like he's fake 4-dimensional like TOP. Source

Suho is going to the miltary and I'm not ready for it
Lexi.K replied to Thatoneuser's topic in Random
With Chen being a new dad, likely there will be only 4 members available, and w/o concerts, meetups and such, it'd be best if all EXO members just went to do their service now so we can have at least most of them back sooner -
Just because someone is not a strong singer, doesn't mean they're weak musically or can't show versatility. For example, everyone agrees that Selena Gomez is a weak singer, but one could argue that her music is good and enjoyable nonetheless (her latest album received rave reviews). I can think of several group members or solo artists whose voices I don't enjoy, but I hold their music dear and can't deny their skills and potential.

I think Lay can get lost in quantity over quality. He's a harcore hardworker, interested in always pursuing the next thing. He wants to produce and produce, but sometimes, it's better to stop just grinding and take a step back for the sake of artistic integrity.
-
I think he has and oportunity to pass such label and become an established singer and actor that's a force to be reckoned with beyond the idol category. He's talented, good looking and endearing. Once he comes back from the military it's over for the rest!

I kinda get it because it's just so unfair and angering that people attack him. Yeah, he had a troubled past, but he had clearly overcome it all and shown growth and maturity over and over. He wasn't one of those involved in useless scandals. I feared that he might not be able to bounce back to do what he loves, but I'm glad things are looking up and he's given a sporting chance. I wish he grows further, both on his career and character. -

I meant in the sense that he could come back from what seemed a career-ending scandal. And I'm glad. Dude didn't deserve to get kicked out in the first place. -
