  1. I had to get last minute judges for SNSD, Beyonce and Michael Jackson's entries since Matt left before I could put them up! Follow them on Twitter: Matt, Tyler kagome × GIRLS' GENERATION– “I Got a Boy†“I Got A Boy, the title track off of SNSDs 4th Korean Album, is hands down SNSDs most "experimental" song. First and foremost, they went with a hip-hop inspired concept which was something they've never done before. Not only that but the song doesn't follow the "standard" way most pop songs go (still has a lot of pop elements). It has a lot of changes that give it the feel of "4 songs in 1"†Other Matt: 17:36 Matt When u first listen to igab u think all the diff instruments and stuff clash but when u listen to it more u realize how they work together @ the end to create one harmonious chorus at the end 17:36 Matt Idk if that makes sense but – 8/10 Tyler/Other Matt: 17:32 Tyler It is v good but u have 2 get into it 17:32 Tyler Like its smthn that grows on u but not good @ the start – 9/10 MARKYBEAR: It's def experimental and full of all sorts of parts. Like a Girls Aloud song without the flow or listenability! – 7/10 wacist: I liked it since Yoona gets lots of parts and the rap is like something I've never heard before and idk if I can even call it rap so definitely /edgy – 7/10 TOTAL: 31/40 bunny × KODA KUMI– “Inside Fishbowl†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUPi6v3rkfQ “I think this is one of Kuu's most unique singles. It's pretty different from her usual hip-hop-esque, ballad, or pop songs. I'd say it's not the typical, expected Kumi song but it's still really fun and catchy. Even the music video is pretty creative, and just look at the first lines of the song: "Merry merry round & round Mom and dad I want to have breast implants"†Romeo: It's an interesting song, sounds very fun and energetic. The song definitely sounds different than the Koda Kumi songs i've heard, though not sure if edgy is the right word – 7/10 Matt: While I don't think this song is exactly EDGY, I still really like this song. – 7/10 MARKYBEAR: I think it'd be more edgy if the chorus wasn't repeated so much because it's quite a traditional catchy pop song there (and it feels like most of the song is the chorus!!!) -- but it's different than the rest of Kuu's singles and the lyrics + arrangement are not too typical – 6/10 wacist: Finally you submit a quality Kuu song. I love it, great choice and she sounds really nice. Could do a bit more with the beats, but good overall. – 9/10 TOTAL: 29/40 SHAWNee × SHINee– “Orgel†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDFKHf3krhE “Orgel is another slow song from the Misconceptions of Me album. It has a slightly eerie vibe to it, similar to f(x)'s Shadow. Written by Jonghyun, the creepy, obsessive lyrics seem to suggest the girl is like a ballerina in a music box, how she will spin and sing when he wants and only for him. Perhaps he has kidnapped her? "Aren’t you frustrated, trapped inside this small box? I wind up the spring as I embrace your snow-white shoulder." "It’s only us in this world. Only dance for me Aren’t you happy if you see me always smiling?" "Twinkle twinkle, the tears in your eyes make me smile I don’t want anyone to steal glances at you, smile for me"†Romeo: I enjoyed this song a lot, i like the mallet beats that continue throughout the song and their harmonies are beautiful. It's different from what I normally hear from them as well – 9/10 Matt: I love this song and how different is compared to the rest of their discography. Its very Catchy as well. – 9/10 MARKYBEAR: RAY OF SHINEE – 9/10 wacist: My favorite part is at around 1:45. I think that's Onew? Sounded really nice. I remember this song as well when I listened to the album because it stood out. – 8/10 TOTAL: 35/40 Tee × BLOCK B– “Very Good†“For their highly anticipated October 2013 comeback, Block B returned with a style that no one expected following the release of "Be The Light". Fusing elements of rock and electropop with their style of rapping, singing, and random adlibs, the song and accompanying video is definitely the most wild, wacky...and messy thing they've come out with as of date. With this song, they also scored a top 10 hit on Gaon and managed to nab a win on Inkigayo. It's not a personal favorite of mine, but hey... beware of potential ear rape†Romeo: The song is definitely different... though can't say i'm a fan of the song personally. It sounds all over the place and I've always disliked when they do that synth thing with "good" But I guess the song does fit the theme. – 6/10 Matt: This song is definitely Different. I actually kind of like it as well !– 8/10 MARKYBEAR: This is CRAZY... The song structure is all over the place but I mean that in a good way! It combines their usual hip-hop style with dance and nu-metal. Slay em Korean hoodrats! – 9/10 wacist: I liked the whole concept of this song and the good good good high pitch part worked great. – 9/10 TOTAL: 32/40 SongYi × FAYE WONG– “開到è¼è˜¼ (The Last Blossom)†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLrdI6mJOYI “THE LAST BLOSSOM is a song which fuses many different instruments and genres along with Faye's unique vocal delivery. Here we have heavy rock sounds juxtaposed with dramatic violin melodies which make for a serene but chaotic feel which perfectly describe the lyrics which are a quirky masterpiece on their own, they critically slam life and common values held by people. My favourite lyric is "one by one by one idol there's no difference between each idols that were once idolised upon one by one disappear Who had sin to the max who is a God We're still waiting for what miracle" All the overly devoted kpop fans reading this, listen to Faye's words and respect them. As well as the quirkiness in the song arrangement and instrumental, Faye's vocals are particularly different sounding in this song. This is because she sings through a megaphone for many parts of the song, she does this as she's trying to make her message and vocals sound like that of a dictator or higher power. This also links to the communism of China many years ago. Only a true queen would talk shit about the dictator of China! What a Queen! Bow before her b*tches.†Romeo: The song is intriguing, I was wondering why her voice sounded but then I read your description. The megaphone voice is an interesting touch, and the song sounds different yet still sounds very nice. – 9/10 Matt: I am really Loving this song. Its very Interesting sounding and her vocals are ON POINT. Mariah could never! – 10/10 MARKYBEAR: Kween Wong is so brave releasing music like this into the mainland Chinese market which is full of nothing but soft ballads and easy listening! The distorted music and her SERENE slow vocals in the verses are such a nice contrast against the dark arrangement! – 10/10 wacist: Finding a liberated Chinese woman is literally impossible but Faye is the only exception! Slaying communism since 1969!! – 10/10 TOTAL: 39/40 Fitzwolf × MICHAEL JACKSON– “Dirty Diana†“Dirty Diana is as edgy as Michael Jackson gets. With a discography full of R&b, soul, soft rock, disco funk and dance tracks, Dirty Diana is Michael Jackson's attempt at the hard rock metal genre. The dark lyrics, guitar strings, and staccato singing serve to make this song edgy and fresh during it's time. Many thought Dirty Diana was about Diana Ross but in reality the song is about the groupies that hounded MJs every move. She Likes The Boys In The Band She Knows When They Come To Town Every Musician's Fan After The Curtain Comes Down She Waits At Backstage Doors For Those Who Have Prestige Who Promise Fortune And Fame, A Life That's So Carefree†Tyler: 17:47 Tyler 8 17:47 Matt ia – 8/10 Other Matt: 17:46 Matt what dioes the last part have 2 do with the song tho 17:46 Matt does 17:46 randall Idk prob just background info for the judges – 8/10 MARKYBEAR: The arrangement is kinda dif for MJ but overall the song isn't too out there or LOCO – 7/10 wacist: Not a typical MJ song but it doesn't really seem to edgy imo. It's more or less one of his lesser known works. For MJ, he pretty much defined pop so any of his bigger hits would've worked for this theme, IMO. – 7/10 TOTAL: 30/40 xxdsmxx × AKB48– “Seifuku ga Jama wo Suru†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FewjG-aHM4k “Seifuku ga jama wo suru is a dark and upbeat song and is one of the riskier AKB48 songs in their discography as they tackle the concept of Enjo kosai. With suggesstive lyrics such as: The lyrics might is probably be one of the factor that made this single one their least successful single.†Romeo: Probably one of the more edgier songs AKB has done, but there were still many better choices. I think the bridge is my favorite part of the song, and I also like the electric guitar that comes up here and there.– 8/10 Matt: I'm a Huge fan of this song, but I don't know if I would consider this song edgy... Maybe the AHs, but not the rest! I still love the song though. – 7/10 MARKYBEAR: Um I know the lyrics are obscene but a lot of their lyrics are and this one as a song just isn't edgy. It's normal idol pop music with nothing too shocking except for the sexy UNF noises! Even something like Keibetsu sounds a lot different than what you'd typically hear on the radio!) – 7/10 wacist: The concept is edgy for tweens, maybe. However, to anybody else, this song is pretty generic j-pop music, lbr. – 6/10 TOTAL: 28/40 Filet-o-Aya × UTADA HIKARU– “Kremlin Dust†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVj9M4mBq_g “Kremlin Dusk is one of my favorite and Utada’s most impressive English track. Everything from the crescendo, to the string instruments, to the way her voice quivers when she sings “Calling you, calling you home†and again when the song hits its climax, this song is beautiful. Truly a song both experimental and edgy, a song ahead of its time. The lyrics, in the spoiler, are exceptional and mysterious. †Romeo: I haven't heard this song before, but wow I like it! Though there's a part where she sounds like she's going too high and it sounds odd. I am a fan of the arrangement though and it's different from what i usually hear from her – 10/10 Matt: I love the Ethereal vocals and the Eerie background music. This song is Fantastique! – 10/10 MARKYBEAR: So ethereal! Sounds Björk inspired and every second is gorgeous until that amazing and explosive chorus! I hope her next album is full of songs like this – 10/10 wacist: The raindrops mixed with electric guitar, mixed with what sounds like holy music gives this such a heavenly feel. I love it so much, especially when she raises her voice at the youououou part wowwies. And the lyrics are really edgy tbh EDGAR ALLEN POE!! – 10/10 TOTAL: 40/40 mikeYY_a sone_a panda × BEYONCE– “Drunk in Love†“"Drunk in Love" is a song recorded by American recording artist Beyoncé, featuring her husband American rapper Jay-Z. The duo along with Noel Fisher, Andre Eric Proctor, Rasool Diaz, Brian Soko, Timbaland, Jerome Harmon, and Boots composed the song for Beyoncé's self-titled fifth studio album Beyoncé (2013). Columbia Records released "Drunk in Love" as one of the two lead singles to urban contemporary radio stations in the United States on December 17, 2013. This is a very hard theme for me,Drunk in love because the sound is soo much different than Beyonce previous song....i like how its a slow R&B with loud bass n background sound....and i think the album 'Beyonce'' itself is very experimental...playing with new sound....†Other Matt: 17:37 Matt There r far more experimental songs on BEYONCE 17:41 Matt i like drunk in love but it not edgy – 6/10 Tyler: 17:38 Tyler Flawless was more experimental than drunk in love– 5/10 MARKYBEAR: Not many of Beyonce's latest songs are v radio friendly so I think it works! – 8/10 wacist: One of the most iconic songs by Beyonce imo. I still quote it to this day. The lyrics are edgy and saxsy. – 9/10 TOTAL: 28/40 koons × MILEY CYRUS– “We Can't Stop†“She shocked with this song, as it was her most experimental song she'd done. It was a complete 180 from what had originally made her popularity burst (Party In The U.S.A., The Climb, etc.) We Can't Stop was a successful experiment.†Romeo: This was one of those songs that I had to listen to until I was sick of it, but I did really like the song and I can definitely call this edgy and experimental. – 9/10 Matt: I can't stand this song. This song is different from her other songs, but its still awful. I'm only giving U this score because of how different this image was for her. – 6/10 MARKYBEAR: It was edgy for Miley to do this after her disney image but the song its self isn't experimental for its genre – 5/10 wacist: I loved this song so much. She was so tryhard edgy that it worked in her favor. I love how she made a caricature of herself TBH!! Also, the song itself is rly fun and catchy. – 8/10 TOTAL: 28/40 oshimas × NMB48 – “Yume no Dead Body†https://soundcloud.com/andrefariza/nmb48-teamn-yume-no-dead-body “A unit song by NMB's resident rocker, Yamamoto Sayaka, Yume no Dead Body is unlike any other of the group's previous songs. With a hard, rock sound and darker, more mature lyrics, coupled with Sayaka's husky and unique vocals (compared to other members of her group), Yume no Dead Body steps away from normal idol music and delivers an edgy and experimental performance not soon forgotten. Lyric Highlights "Flat beer, countless tablets of aspirin. Pulling the shade down on the window doesn't kill the sun, darling. The dead body of dreams, where did you throw it away? I hazily remember kind words. To where does the night's darkness continue? The lies lined upon the white sheets. Who smoked the empty Kazbek Oval? The twisted memories have turned to ash and disappeared. Wasting youth on a bathroom mirror. Can't even look at the other girls that were discarded."†Romeo: I must say I think I like how this sounds live more than I like the studio version. Anyway tbh it sounds like any other pop rock song but it is different than what the group usually presents and it's not a bad song. – 6/10 Matt: This song is not really edgy just because it has Dead Body in the title. Yume no Dead Career is not anything amazing either. Doryoku no Shizuku was edgier than this song to be Honest with you! – 5/10 MARKYBEAR: Sounds like light typical idol pop despite its content – 4/10 wacist: I love the first voice I hear. And honestly the instrumental is actually real nice as well. I don't know of any situation where I'd call it edgy, though. It's a good song, but not edgy. – 6/10 TOTAL: 21/40 Astral × T-ARA– “A-ha†https://soundcloud.com/t-arafeverforever/a-ha “Possibly one of the few distinct sounding song in the still stellar T-ara discography, this relatively unknown Japanese b-side will conquer the ears and hearts of every type of audience thanks to it's funky base, smashing vocals and revolutionary lyrics that talk about wearing tight boots and putting glitter on nails. I can definitely foresee this as becoming a trend all around the globe in the near future!†Romeo: I did enjoy the funky sounds in the background and the different sounds in the intro. but I don't see this song as being particularly edgy – 4/10 Matt: The eenie meenie w/e part is the best and probably the "edgiest" part of the song. Even though I like the song, it isn't edgy. – 5/10 MARKYBEAR: I like the intro and the chorus is less stupid than most of their other songs which is pretty impressive for T-ARA. It's a traditional funk song. – 5/10 wacist: I've never heard this song before or I have but don't remember. Because it's not really edgy. Then again, T-Ara is more about their ballady funk tunes so you tried. – 5/10 TOTAL: 19/40 onyanko × MINMI – “Summer Time†https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z4z0Rwr2_g “The song i've chosen for this round is Summertime!!! I chose it because I bet you can't name any other Asian artists who have released a soca(a type of caribbean dance music) inspired song. This song was MINMIs first venture out of hiphop and reggae (wow so brave of her) PLUS not only is this song unique compared to everything else ur gonna listen to this round but it's also an energetic pu$$y popper that will make you wanna shake your ass and pretend like its just you at home when your looking at your ass shaking in the mirror.†Romeo: Not sure if I would call this edgy, but I did enjoy the song, it's fun and summery – 6/10 Matt: I'm a big fan of this song! It is very different than other JPOP artistes especially how it starts out as a slow song, but then gets Crazy! – 9/10 MARKYBEAR: Take a dump! Take a dump dump <3 – 4/10 wacist: *yawn* it's literally the same background music repeated over and over. I KNOW you didn't think this was edgy??? Points for the samba beat though. – 5/10 TOTAL: 24/40 delincous × NAMIE AMURO – “Dreaming I Was Dreaming†http://www.jpopsuki.tv/video/Namie-Amuro---Dreaming-I-was-dreaming/848f3138429d6a63984c257328c15eeb “Dreaming I was Dreaming is Namie's 9th single and appears in her first compilation album 181920. It is the ONLY ballad Namie ever made that is so mysterious, dark, sensual and dreamy. The PV is also unique and you will never find any other alike in Namie's entire PV collection. It is a never done before and never done after! And she has short hair. http://beautifulsonglyrics.blogspot.fr/2012/06/namie-amuro-dreaming-i-was-dreaming.html†Romeo: I love the instruments used in the arrangement, they're different and work very well in the song. I'm a fan of the mysterious feel the song portrays – 8/10 Matt: I really love this beautiful song. Its not only beautiful, but the chorus is Very catchy which is no surprise coming from Namie. – 9/10 MARKYBEAR: A v dreamy song with a unique sound but not her edgiest – 8/10 wacist: This sounds so unique it definitely edgy. Good choice hun-T. – 9/10 TOTAL: 34/40 tit × TERESA TENG – “Tni Ou Ou†http://www.hezbla.com/songs/tw/TniOuOu.mp3 “that's not her lesbian wear at the beginning, it's her sign of freedom to do whatever she please as she didn't had alot of control of how she should wear her clothes, how thing should be done etc. when she was in her heyday. This is what she said when her mum disapproved of what she is wearing, she told her mum, as long as she is happy, why care what others said, read it in the book. She is at that stage where she no longer need to care and maintain her image and other's opinion of her. she fucking crazy in this song. she showed that she can be quirky in this hokkien pop masterpiece. btw im still banned SO VOTE FOR ME I DON'T WANNA GO HOME†Romeo: The song is an interesting mix of different sounds, it has that classical asian sound yet sounds different. It was an enjoyable listen. – 9/10 Matt: This song reminds me of Horseback Riding through the woods while Laughing. What a crazy and innovative tune. – 10/10 MARKYBEAR: I'M LAUGHING! UNBAN TIT! It sounds like traditional folk music tho it's not rly edgy – 5/10 wacist: This is a mess of different styles but strangely it fits together! – 8/10 TOTAL: 32/40 Teemo × CAPSULE– “The Time is Now†http://soundcloud.com/coolmusicforyourears/the-time-is-now-by-capsule “OKAY to start off I had a really hard time picking. I was thinking going quirky with old stuff like plastic girl but when I thought about it, even though its unique it's sugary like all jpop stuff now so I decided not to. I could of gone with a song from caps lock because it was literal "experimental, avant garde" but I feel like for capsule the songs with actual lyrics are pretty normal for them especially control, so it would be borrrinnggggg to use because for them it's not exactly unique, plus she sounds like a vocaloid in it. So I went with The Time is Now because it's edgy and capsule usually doesn't do songs with mostly all rap so it's also unique for them and also one of my personal favorites because omfg that rap is amazing(even though its basically stock vocals). Also I know one of the judges said they hate toshikos vocals and only liked the rap, so overall good pick that's fresh and trendy. Also legendary unique lyric "I got a hundred more flavors than nesquik" I also like the opening lyrics too.†Romeo: Whoever is rapping sounds like a high pitched teenager that can't stop talking. The song itself sounds like what they usually put out, with a repetitive synth continuing for most of the song. the only thing different is that it's mostly rap than singing. – 4/10 Matt: I really hate the rap part, but I like the rest of this song. I don't think this is particularly edgy... its pretty annoying actually since its mostly rap! – 4/10 MARKYBEAR: I think it has a darker sound that most other capsule songs as it builds to the heavier upbeat dance part and the song doesn't have a traditional structure – 8/10 wacist: It's an average capsule song. What would be edgy for them would've been a different take on the 'Capsule' feel. – 5/10 TOTAL: 21/40
  2. Does anyone want to donate to the jackpot btw
  3. Okay after talking with my judges I'm allowing stage unit songs, but no songs from official sub-units with their own subset discography.
