  2. Jaebom+2pm may be a possibility, but JYJ+DBSK, 4minute+Wonder Girls, and BESTie+EXID are highly unlikely to ever happen, because they're grown into their own respective groups and the companies(especially the big 3) almost never do any collaborations with anyone outside of their own agency

I dunno, I think I'd consider BESTie+EXID a lot more likely than 2pm or db5k. Maybe an end of the year special stage or something.  Unlike those other groups, the original EXID split didn't have any weird secret scandals or lawsuits behind it. S.Tiger and YNB splitting up is a pretty straightforward explanation. Not much juicy drama there even though some people like to make some out of it.

DB5k and 2PM had more complications like network blocking, lawsuits, rumors of betrayal and other members hinting at it. And even after all this time we don't know the real stories or politics behind the splits. I'm just happy BESTie and EXID seem to be on good terms and are able to promote on the same stage tbh.

  3. If you're evaluating a rapper by the feel or whatever, you're really just evaluating the performer and the producer.

Not necessarily. I mean we also feel things from an acapella right? (no producer) Spoken words have their own emotion behind them that may or may not connect you. It's just personal. It doesn't have to be a performance either because you can feel something from a recorded track. Production and a live performance can add to the experience, but I wouldn't say they're mandatory to connecting on a personal level.

  4. Just trying to shift the discussion a bit right now. I was wondering how everyone is basing their judgements on the rap. Someone on youtube brought up a really interesting point that foreigners can't understand the lyrics so basing the judgements off only tone, flow and movement is a bit inaccurate. To some extent I agree but I still think what I just listed plays a part too. I understand a little Korean, I can read it pretty well and I know a some phrases but it's not enough to say I know the language. This whole time I've been going off of flow and rhyme schemes. I feel like I'm missing out on a bunch of lyrical play etc. I was wondering how everyone else is judging it though :). I'm not that great at putting my ideas into words so I'm sorry about that.

Oh boy. Kind of hard to answer this kind of question without going on a tangent or typing an essay. I'll try to keep it short.

I agree with the person who said that. Even in English I think a lot of people miss out what's actually going on in a song. Sometimes you REALLY have to analyze the lyrics to "get it". For example, it's amazing how many people were unironically blasting Kendrick's Swimming Pools are a drinking game anthem when it's actually the damn opposite of one. Also, in another language, we're very limited even if we attempt analyze rhymes (which btw we can't recognize the complex ones like multis and internals) and flow, because hip hop is expression through poetry, we're just not getting the full package. Even if you read a translation (from someone who not only speaks the language but also "gets it" ) it's not the same since you're not feeling what they wanted you to at the moment you heard it.

With that being said, I still don't judge khiphop completely different from what's in my native tongue. I just leave half of it out to an extent. I would usually factor: Lyricism, Flow, Personality, Substance. i'm just more lenient because I believe lyricism and substance are harder to judge. So I put more on the other two and how they make me feel instead.

Flow- I do weigh flow very heavily. No matter what language it's in, it's very easy to spot someone off rhythm. Not much to say honestly. It's either you can or you can't.

Personality- Personality is important. I don't mean stage presence either. I mean making me recognize instantly that it's your turn when you're on the the track. No offense to any Jolly V fans but that's  the problem I have with her. I hear her and nothing sets her apart aside from her kinda deep voice. When I hear Cheetah I envision daggers. Everything she says is powerful and cuts deep. You have to stop what you're doing when you hear her or else you might lose your head. On flipside chill personalities are good to convey too. Personally, I don't care for him much but you always know Snoop when you hear him on a track. A good personality doesn't necessarily have to be sharp. Just a way to establish your own presence.

Substance- A good lyricist has a skill with putting words together but what's the point if the words aren't really meaning anything? Substance, in this context is the ability to use lyricism to put together a coherent and cohesive rap. So  yes, this is another thing that has to be looked at via translation if you don't speak the language. However unlike Lyricism it's easier a bit easier to follow. Are they telling a story?  are they just popping off?  are they talking a social issue? Getting a point across is substance.

So yeah, that's pretty much how I base my judgments. We're definitely disadvantaged, but I don't really think there's a for sure right way to judge. Some people care a lot for tone...personally you'll never convince me that it matter much haha. I think there's a certain extent where our standards for rappers eventually overlap with each other (it's definitely crazy to say Minho is a better rapper than Tiger JK for example) but overall because music is just another of many subjective forms of art, it's just a matter of preference.

So much for keeping it short...

  5. who do you want to see in season 2 lineup?

i want to see exid le, hello venus lime, choi sam, lip service bipa, play the siren kasper, evol jucy, heize, kittyB, ash-b, lexy, sleeq, other underground rappers

with yoon mi rae, tasha, miryo as judge/producer also my bby verbal jint can come back too as producer/judge

    yes please!

  6. First of all

People should have been in a bigger uproar when they brought up the subject of elimination in the middle of the show.

I was one of the few who had no problem with Lil Cham, I was hoping someone anyone of those supposed judge who came on the show will give her pointers and help her improve.

But then when I saw a video Mnet posted and had the self awareness to delete making fun of Lil Cham eating on the show. I stopped looking for things to make actual sense.

Now as far as this particular challenge was concerned

I already had a big problem with all those men standing there to judge the lowly females

And even more when most of them haven't bothered to give any of the contestant any valuable criticism while they were on the show.

Now the fact that Vasco and Iron were there as judges when not even minutes ago they were contestants themselves was baffling.

They should have picked the worst performers

So that Jolly V could go because in all honesty she brought Cheetah's performance down.

Tymee and Jace's was in no way the worst even with Jace awkward jumping out of excitement during their performance.

Plus of all the female rappers who rapped that day, Tymee did the best.

Yeah, I thought eliminating someone randomly in the middle was dumb too. I heard other people who shared the sentiment back then, but I'd guess there's a bigger uproar now because Tymee was more well-received than Lil Cham (who was written off by many as a walking meme) and like you said she did have the best performance that day, so it just seems extra random. It's not all bad though. She got some publicity, enjoyed the experience, and now she can get back to working on music :)

I'm glad i'm not the only one who didn't think Jace was awful. I felt like the editing tried too hard to make her seem worse than what she is. She's not special or anything but the MNET agenda was for her to seem like total cannon fodder.

  7.

Since this people are looking for mainstream success appealing to the wide audience is important reason why they have had the mission that they had on this show.

I agree but you can say that about every challenge on this show and none of them were as poorly executed as this one. The fact that it was double elim is just icing on the cake.

  8. The ep 6 challenge was a flawed concept anyway. Let's allow half of the cast to form a duo with their best friends then judge everyone's performances based on synergy because that's a great way to judge rapping skill. Of course Tymee and Cheetah's teams were screwed from the start. Jessi/Jidam and Kisum/Jimin were the "OTPs" the show was pushing all season. If you weren't paired with your best friend you were at a disadvantage even if you were Tymee and had the best verse in the whole episode.

I'll miss Tymee but at least it looked like she had fun on this stupid scripted show lol. And I think she gained a lot of new fans too so it all worked out.

  10. Rap battles are pretty much a battle to see who can use the best word play to diss their opponent.

So that part is entranced in hip hop culture.

Now sometimes popular rappers who have a beef with each other do also diss each other.

Sometimes it is bc they do feel they have legitimate reason to be upset with the other. Like with 2pac and Biggie but that ended in both their deaths.

Sometimes it is employed as a marketing strategy at one point 50 Cent and Kanye had some healthy competition about album sales. While with Jay-z and Nas after they dissed each other on records they patched things up.

But just because someone disses you it doesn't mean you have to respond. This isn't like Pac and Biggie or Nas/Jay. This is more like when Game talked mad shit about Jay Z, mentioning him in interviews, dissed him in a LOT of songs and Jay still wasn't going to give Game the time of day because he knew he was on another level and had nothing to gain by putting Game in his place. The difference is that Tymee can't be Jay situation because she's on a reality show pressuring her to dignify Jolly (Game) with a response even though she has made it clear that it was not want she wanted to do. Tymee has said lots of times that she's avoiding Jolly V because she doesn't think it's fair that she can leech off her popularity and that she's above her.  Yeah dissing is normal in rap culture we know, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to pick your battles either.

  11. Idk, I know that it's common to ppl diss each other on hiphop but Tymee made it clear that she doesn't have the desire to keep it up with this. She was doing her best to avoid and just ignore Jolly V but then of course the show would put them together at some point.

Agreed. While i'm sure Tymee knew they were going to make it happen eventually, it just seemed kinda lame and distasteful that the PDs would force it so hard when she obviously didn't want to do it there.

  12. Following!

Honestly, I would like Tymee to make a full comeback and focus on making music like she used to instead of participating on shows like Unpretty Rapstar. That show has become a joke for many reasons. I only follow the show because I want to see her.

    I miss her music. :(

The show is good for promotion though. :)
