Interested in black American culture? Wigger. Interested in Afro-Caribbean culture? Colonizer. Interested in Japanese culture? Weeboo. Interested in Korean culture? Koreaboo. Interested in Native American culture? Appropriation. Interested in Middle Eastern culture? Apologists. Listen to music from another ethnic group and people laugh, claiming you're strange because you can't understand the language. Fascinated by how other cultures operate and people scowl, claiming that you don't like your own culture. Hang out too much with other ethnic groups and you're a sell-out. Try to ease tensions between your ethnic group and another and people act as if they will literally fight you. Buuuuut whenever other ethnic groups are interested in Caucasian/European/ "White" culture - when other ethnic groups wish to visit the countries, listen to the music, explore more of the culture - people, more or less, accept it more than they accept people enjoying non-white cultures...why? Are we still pushing the 'white is universal' mindset without even realizing? Is enjoying a non-white culture still so strange to us that we question people's intentions whenever we see them doing it? I'm not wondering about the validity of calling someone a Koreaboo, I'm just wondering why does it seem that being interested in everything not white gets a lot more side-eye?
