  1. There's no limit to you asking, go ahead! :)

And while I'm writing this, I will be banging out "Sexy Love" because this song is my jam right now along with "Number Nine"... Damn, why are their songs so catchy?!

Anyway, down to business... Hwayoung. (She is the one with the blonde hair, right? Because you did mention Minkyung or something...)

She has nice flow I suppose, but her delivery is all wrong because of that "blocked nose effect" that all these female K-Pop rappers need to grow out of. Her vocal tone is actually quite good, but it's a shame that her diction is muddy and her emphasis is placed incorrectly.

Alas, she didn't even know how to rap beforehand, so I suppose it is amazing progress, but making a great amount of progress when you had no skill at it all, doesn't make you amazing overall it just means you're making steps in the right direction... She needs to get better and quickly if she wants to be the Main Rapper of anything (though judging by Netizen Buzz, I guess she's more into acting, now...).

Yura, as much as I love her, is not a real rapper yet.

Her vocal tone is too high-pitched and unrealistic as a rap voice. Yes with this song it could be just the fact that it is Aegyo rap, however her vocal tone in Expectation was still too high (better, but still too high), furthermore Aegyo rap doesn't mean your voice needs to be that high... Playing them side-by-side would show that both Ashley (Lip Service) and Way (Crayon Pop) have lower pitch in their vocal tone than her.

Her delivery is god awful... I would sooner give a tip to Minho than have her deliver my Stuffed Crust with extra Pepperoni and Nachoes.

It's so whiny and frustratingly bad, their is no proper emotion behind it other than "Waeyo, oppa?" and the emphasis (although in the right places) is just done wrong. There is no charisma or flair to it, not even the playfulness found in your usual aegyo rap, like what the hell is this?

Her flow should make up for all of this, but it's so frustratingly lackluster and basic, I don't even know why they make her rap? She needs to step up her game and improve a lot because honestly, I am struggling to call her a rapper right now.

Finally, Hyorin... The Queen of all traits and Korean Beyonce... does that mean there's a Korean Jay-Z in her life, teaching her this? Where is she learning all of this?

Her flow is superb, fluent and gets from point A to B with ease, although when she's covering Yoon Mirae there is some choppiness, but it's hard to do a Yoon Mirae song anyway, so...

When she does stuff like this and releases stuff like "One Way Love" you can tell she's a Hip-Hop head, she knows her stuff has clear influences from Korean Hip-Hop and perhaps Yoon Mirae herself, her delivery is really nice too, like really nice.

The emphasis is perfectly placed and her charisma shines through, but she needs to emote better instead of focusing so much on getting her flow right... She is more of a technical rapper instead of an intuitive rapper and while that is sort of awesome, she needs to let her instinct take over sometimes and allow her to get into what she's rapping. Rapping is still a rather natural and instinctive thing after all.

Her vocal tone is very nice though, but it's Hyorin... How could it not be?

But the question is... Is she better than Bora? No.

Bora has been severely limited on her rapping and her dancing to showcase Hyorin's talents a lot more but Bora actually beats her at both.

Where Hyorin is a very naturally gifted dancer, Bora is a more technically-inclined dancer. However in rap, Hyorin is more technique based and Bora is a more natural rapper.

Her delivery is way better as a result and she can switch it up as well with stuff like "Alone" and "Give It To Me" being examples... It takes a lot for a rapper to be able to adapt their delivery that much if they can't do it naturally (note how Hyorin only ever raps on Hip Hop based songs, one could argue it is to showcase her rapping talent more, but I doubt it...).

Also flow wise, Bora beats Hyorin... Hyorin still can't get her words around fast flow  as well as Bora can... Hyorin can do the short bursts of speed that Yoon Mirae is famous for, but Bora would be able to pull off her more tricky flow-related stuff because it requires some actual contingency with your rhythmic cadence.

What I've noticed is that Hyorin is falling under the misconception that most singers that do rap fall under (of which Ailee has not done, just saying...) most singers have come to believe that rap is just saying words over a beat, not true... As a singer myself as well, I can relate to both sides. Singing is harder, but that doesn't mean rap is easy.

With rappers there is more pressure to get your words right, because your lyrics mean everything and also rappers need to be more attune to the beat as well. When you rap, your natural speaking rhythm has to coincide well with the beat you are working on and you need to be able to form a coherent string of words to match that rhythm in a manner that makes sense and has impact on the listener...

Now when I put it that way, rap seems hard now correct? That's the reality of it.

Bora understands this and as shown in "GNAAL" is actually a better rapper because of it, not to say that Hyorin isn't gifted or talented, or that she isn't a rapper... With flow like that she is one! But she is not a true rapper in the sense of mastering the art form or even utilizing it to more than a basic capacity.

    Just my two cents.

I accidently put the wrong video  :horror: The blonde girl is Ahreum

I've fixed it btw  :meow: Minkyung is the long haired girl that raps first, and hwayoung is the short haired that raps last... thank you~

I havent heard GNAAL before... I'll listen to it and maybe I'll change my mind xD

I think DreamT makes Yura as a rapper because the original one had left... (god,I miss her so much     :horror: )

<< Here she is,her name is Jihae... I missed the original GsD TT_TT

    Thank you for reviewing~~

  2. can I ask for more? xD

I'm curious about Hwayoung... what do you think about her?

*might as well review Minkyung if you don't mind~

for me,as someone who didnt know how to rap at the first place *she had mentioned this when she was interviewed* this is amazing  :._.:

I think you have already did her in other thread but.. well... Yura...

    idk,I just think she's terrible

lastly for today, another just for fun... Hyorin

    imo,even better than bora

    thankyouu~~

edit: oops, posted Sexy Love instead of We Were In love :._.:

  3. you dont have any problem with ravi's unclear eng diction ? I give him a slack because he's not A native speaker but well damn, wth did he said in his superhero intro though ? People tend to

Dislike the way he raps, because there's something annoying bout his rap. lol. probably his flow is something not too pleasant to ears or not familiar amongst idols rappers. yes, for his delivery, his delivery definitely matches vixx's concept, whether it's

    It's dark, bright, etc.

Sometimes I dont get what he says too xD,I dont even get his "should I go should i stay nobody knows" part in voodoo doll until my sister sang it kkk

  4. First off, no worries I'm glad I could be of service! :)

Now then, I'm gonna start with Ravi.

I've heard his stuff before and he really is underrated as a rapper, because quite frankly I think he is the best, or at least one of the best, male rappers in K-Pop.

I've never seen someone so consistent with their rapping technique in all of their songs (outside of people like Zico, T.O.P, etc...) and the best part of it all is that he is the most complete package as a rapper I've seen so far in K-Pop.

His flow is amazing and he has complete control over it, it never seems hurried nor breathy or even choppy at the slightest, it just seamlessly goes from one part to the next. Most people in K-Pop that can do something like this or have good flow are usually flat on their delivery, right?

    Not Ravi.

His delivery is just as dynamic as some of the best. The emphasis is perfectly placed on each syllable and the emotion is heard constantly throughout his flow (which is something even well respected rappers had trouble doing... Guys like Biggie Smalls and Royce Da 5'9 have the nicest flow in the world but they couldn't emote properly through their flow when they went fast, whereas Tupac always emoted through his flow but it was never fast or fluent enough to compete).

The only rapper (right now) that comes to mind that does exactly what Ravi does is Eminem through songs like "Rap God" and "Mockingbird".

If I had even one small issue, it would be his vocal tone. Perfect pitching of his voice (not too high or too low, just right) and his vocal texture puts the right amount of weight to his words... So what's the issue?

He sounds like he has a blocked nose... That is literally the only thing holding this guy back from being the best male rapper in K-Pop today (a title which is hotly contested by Zico, T.O.P, Rap Monster and G-Dragon).

I still think he should be considered among them, because that is obviously his signature and what sets him apart from other rappers (so I don't think he'll change it anytime soon) but honestly it's holding him back and making him hard to listen too at times.

But honestly, he is top-tier worthy and is so underrated because he isn't. Sad really :(

    Next up? Baro.

I've never listened to B1A4 before so this should be interesting.

Now Baro is really similar to Ravi, but he is nowhere near as good.

The main thing to remember in rap is that it is mostly natural expression, delivery and feeling. Everything is mostly intuitive but the practice is how you develop your technique.

Baro's flow cannot be faulted at all, he has beautiful flow and connect words brilliantly. But in comparison to Ravi, his delivery is quite poor.

His words are more slurred and the emphasis isn't placed properly on the words, the emotion is missing more too.

His vocal tone is even muddier than Ravi's too, but the pitch of his voice and vocal texture are slightly better.

Baro's good but I wouldn't rank him as high as Ravi, perhaps a mid-tier rapper alongside people like Chansung or U-Know Yunho.

And finally, since I've followed Ailee during her Youtube days, I know about more instances of her rap than this one...

She rapped on a song with 2BiC, she did "Catch Me If You Can" with Decipher and she did a cover of Crayon.

But based on this clip she has improved immensely! :O

Her flow is prestige, it is fluent from point A to point B and seems to be inspired a bit by Biggie Smalls, which I find a bit different but really cool!

Her delivery is nice, she's emphasized the right points, but it falls a bit flat because it isn't emoted properly and the enunciation of most of her words are still sloppy.

Her vocal tone is perfect (but of course when is it not...) and is actually the ideal for most female rappers to have. Honestly with a bit more work she could be as good of a rapper as she is a singer...

p.s. Not meaning to start a fanwar or something but, Hyorin's singing and rapping both pale in comparison to Ailee's...

Wow :0 thankyouu~ I thought Baro was at least slightly better than ravi._.

I'll be sure to come back qith more rappers :la:
