When people comment on a new disco kpop song and are like, 'This sounds and looks like Roly Poly!!'...like yeah um...it's disco... and the choreo is similar because...it's disco dance... you kiddos might find it hard to believe but it was a hugely popular genre over in the west (not to mention koreans in the 70's and 80's did disco too)...

serious question, how does immortal song 2 not run out of old-timey korean composers to cover? I would have thought the korean music industry was kind of small compared to the US. if they ever do I'd like to see them do more legendary western composers lol

Why do people gotta bash good vocalists by saying they're soulless in order to prop up their fave who isn't as good a vocalist? Ok so you don't like x vocalist. That's subjective. Well, a lot of people do enjoy their voice and artistry and don't find them emotionless. Why you gotta rag on them like that? It goes the other way as well, of course. Ok, so y vocalist isn't perfect. That's not as subjective, but people can still like them, too. The kpop fandom is a bit better about talking about these things than some years ago, I think because of the wonderful folks that have started devoting time to evaluating the music critically and writing about what makes a good vocalist, but I still see posts that show some folks have a long way to go.

The longer I'm in kpop, the less I have anyone I can call a 'bias'. I like groups and I like certain members of groups more than others but honestly I'm just into it for the music and mvs. Part of it is because most of my previous ultimate biases either go on long hiatuses or have released crappy stuff. I love kpop more than ever but I'm not into it for one band nor do I really want to bone any of the idols. Sure they're hot but I don't really give it more thought than, 'oh, x looks sexy in that outfit, nice'. I think it's a sign I'm getting old lol

so I barely interact with any of the people I have on facebook (95% people I know irl, that I went to school with at some point) but when I do try to reach out they either don't respond, or the interaction is so unsatisfying that I'm like, 'well why the fuck do I have you on here then if you're gonna act like you don't want to talk to me'. I've pared my friends list down to 100 and gotten rid of all the people I didn't really know, soooo... what is it?

it was cute I honestly don't mind Sistar disbanding that much, as long as Soyu and Hyorin go on to have good solo careers. To be completely honest, even though I did like Bora and Dasom and liked when they promoted together, they were dead weight. I was not watching their perfs for them, for sure.

I wonder if it's possible for an artist to hit it big in the western market who doesn't speak english. I mean my gut says no, due to xenophobia and also because there aren't a ton of examples of that, but what if someone does lol. that'd be wild

I love dogs but I cannot deal with the fact that they don't live as long as people. My dog is 15 and his arthritis is getting so bad to the point that he doesn't have the quality of life for us to keep him with us anymore. I love him so much but I feel so angry and helpless that I can't do more for him. maybe that's childish and everyone else my age has just accepted that animals just die but I can't deal with it

there are so many users on here I feel like should be banned (not like I'm sitting there stewing about it, I'm just like, 'why are they still here tho?'). or at least their thread should be locked more often. maybe it's just me but I feel like mods barely...well, mod anymore. I've seen some threads devolve into outright personal attacks and I just read through the shit show thinking...'so why was this thread allowed to stay up for 8 pages worth of name-calling and stupidity?' maybe they're all just too busy these days to keep track of things, I've thought, but then I see the same people do the same stuff over and over again and still no one does anything... but they weren't too busy to ban me from the bashing thread and delete several of my posts for unspecified reasons.... even though I'm like the most boring user ever and barely post... I'd think one of them had it in for me or something but that's crazy talk since I literally never interact with them

I almost never talk to you anymore but when I do, you have to be snotty and act like the world's biggest expert on social justice when you were busy outing me to the class, justifying the bush administration, and saying poor people should 'just get jobs' when we were in high school like I'm glad your views have changed but seems to me that your activism is more about 'being right' and 'being seen' than actually caring about other people....hmm

I'd stay up for the release but it's at 2AM my time and I need to be in bed by 12 if I don't want to be a zombie tomorrow. Good thing is the album will all be available by the time I wake up~ -
OP and these other people don't need 'hope' and 'endurance', they need a therapist and meds and a helping hand but unfortunately mental healthcare is still so stigmatized in Korea

help me, I shouldn't be allowed to talk to people because I always say something dumb without thinking that makes them hate me

when some english-language article comes out praising some person who is like, 'X are the first y (insert diverse group name) kpop stars!' and it's some random people who don't fit the idol image, aren't in korea and aren't signed to a label (or are signed to some tiny label no one's ever heard of before).... like enjoy your 15 minutes of fame in the english language press, because it's obvious that's all you're going to get.... I'd rather we focus on supporting non-traditional idols that are actually signed to a company or promoting in korea rather than people who clearly don't have a chance and don't know what they're doing...

I hate flossing my teeth. It's such a chore. But I started being religious about my dental health after I got braces, and now I feel like it'd be horrible to stop

lol but what is this 'Amber is not talented' fiction?? Reminds me of when people said 'No one in Miss A has talent besides Suzy'. Antis are doing a bad job of disguising the fact that the reason they hate some idols and not others is because they don't like their looks. Amber is about on the same level as most people in kpop who've done solo work. Also I'm tired of people pointing to 'Shake that Brass' as the only example of what she can bring to the table when she's done tons of other stuff now...and plenty of other SM idols have released that kind of awkward rapping and no one says it's pointless to invest in them -
why do idols trying to promote in the states always do some kind of edm/trap thing? is it because of far east movement, they think asians can only have a chance to chart with that kind of music? Because when they do this they come out with the most generic, forgettable tracks of this genre, and I honestly think a lot of idols would have more of a chance with a well-produced (but not overproduced) rnb, soul, or acoustic track. I mean the best selling album worldwide last year was Adele's...shouldn't that tell them something? I think Lydia Lee is going the right track. I'm just frustrated about Hyorin signing with Spinnin' records. I'm all for her trying new things but I honestly think this makes no sense for her and she should stick to her strengths. The thing is, I don't think Koreans need to change genres and force a completely new image to be successful in the US. I think authenticity, production quality, and maybe changing a few cultural things (for instance, a mv concept like 'Some' would be weird to americans- but the idea of doing a sweet rnb duet is not) is more important.

when people who are already goodlooking (this isn't really talking about idols tho) and have tons of people that think they're hot get plastic surgery: so what am I in comparison, chopped liver? so strange tbh, really shows how it's a mental thing for some people where they can see flaws that aren't there like if I was already adored by a lot of people and had no trouble getting ahead in life, I'd never even think about changing my body, but I guess for some people that's just not enough for them to be happy

can people please stop acting like koreans are completely ignorant on all issues of social justice? using the mistakes of the entertainment industry to infantilize a whole nation is pathetic. There are loads of people speaking out for LGBT and feminist issues. There's growing awareness of their transition to being a multicultural nation, although that's going a bit more slowly as far as I can tell. But the west did not invent feminism or homosexuality, and people like Hyuna and Jo Kwon are not role models for feminism or LGBT activism- there are real live activists out there saying things that would be considered radical even by some americans. You can go on ildaro right now and read translated articles by korean feminists about their thoughts and the issues they face, and many of them express opinions that would cause some users on here to accuse them of being 'SJWs'.

why is it, when something goes wrong in my apartment complex, no matter whether it's a maintenance issue or someone blasting music, I have to be the one that calls someone about it? do other people not hear that broken fire alarm going off, or are they on so many drugs they can sleep through it and don't care? or when the couple was screaming at each other at 2am multiple nights, did no one else care? I don't want to seem like the annoying, busy-body tenant, but I end up being one anyway. probably because people think, 'oh someone else will deal with it' and the someone else always has to be me

I know I really shouldn't judge people because I'm privileged too, but when I meet wealthy people from countries with extreme income inequality and they talk about how much they love 'the homeland' because they have a maid there and can drive around in fast cars I can't help but think, 'some people in your country don't have running water' like I just read an article about a country that's experiencing a drought so catastrophic 100 people starved to death in a month but a girl I know was posting about partying it up there at the same time... I just think, 'well isn't it great that your experience of that place is so insulated, and also you can leave and go back to your nice life in america whenever you want'

pet peeves: people who do 'ulzzang/kpop idol makeup' videos and use a ton of very pigmented, sparkly products when 90% most idols are wearing much more subdued makeup. like have you looked at what idols are actually wearing in the past year? that shit hasn't been in since five years ago. male idols don't walk around with sparkle tear liner and red eyelids on the regular
