  1. I have such a complicated reaction to articles discussing weight and body image. On one hand, yes it's seriously horrible that fat people (especially women and girls) are made to feel less and treated in incredibly demeaning ways, and that even women that aren't overweight are taught to worry about their weight. And I absolutely see through the people that mask their hatred for fat women by claiming, 'oh well I'm just concerned about their health'. And I know that fat people know they're fat, cuz it's not like society ever lets them forget it. On the other hand, my country really does have an out of control problem with obesity, and sometimes body positivity is really not the best thing for people (but, neither is self loathing I suppose...). For me that line is crossed when there start to be serious negative health effects.
  2. I feel like I should see a therapist since everyone says it's the silver bullet for making tangible progress on problems, but I don't really want to talk about my childhood or my sex life. I just want to get help with being more productive in my day to day life. Also, I want to try medication for adhd again (tried the two most common ones at a low dose and they gave too many side effects and didn't help, but I know there are other options), but I moved to a sparsely populated state with no adhd specialists. I'm worried that anyone I could contact here, well, wouldn't know anything more about medication than what I can look up myself and would just throw ritalin at me and shrug their shoulders when I say it doesn't work. But IDK if this is a valid concern.
  3. pet peeves: top youtubers that post donation links to organizations and ask their followers to donate, but give nothing themselves. alternatively, youtubers that only give money when they get a sponsorship to pay for the donation. you make at least 100k+ a year, but you can't be bothered to donate a little of your own money to charity instead of spending it all on useless crap, fancy travel destinations, and a nice home? but you think your followers, the majority of whom statistically speaking are either teens or working class, should be the ones giving money?
  4. People always talk about how conservative american tv is about sex and stuff and say that europe is so much more liberated, but I really haven't seen much difference in the european shows I've seen. UK media seems even more shy about showing same-sex relationships than we are- stuff is merely implied most of the time in the shows I've seen, you rarely see two men or two women kiss and if they do it's brief. The same with the french shows I've watched. Stuff from the continent all seems very focused on the nuclear, white family (despite the growing demographic change in many of those countries...). And maybe the family is extremely flawed, but they're still together. There's far less nudity than on HBO on average. Maybe I'm watching the wrong stuff, but honestly I think we're starting to deal with sexuality more frankly than our overseas partners in some ways. And include more diverse characters.
  5. I use all three, just for different things. I find I don't like the taste when I cook with nut milks, so usually it's cow milk when I want to make a recipe. When I'm worried about spoilage I get soy or almond, since I've been living alone it takes me forever to get through a half gallon and it would end up going bad if I just got cow milk to put on cereal :(
  6. People always say they're glad that an idol can 'go their own way' and 'have the freedom to do what they want finally' when they get dropped by their label or choose not to re-sign, but 90% of those people either flop terribly or are never heard from again. Truth is you need a big label behind you to a. Be able to make all those high production quality mvs and work with top producers, choreographers, graphic designers, etc., and B. You need to make some hits to survive and you have a far better chance of doing that if you release public friendly stuff. So I bet at the end of the day, the people who stuck with their big label until the bitter end, end up being the happiest in their careers. Not the people who left to make art films and indie music that flopped.
  7. I wonder how koreans feel about the fact that a silly satirical pop song has come to be more emblematic of their country than any traditional folksong or their national anthem lol
  8. Four Walls was truly the best f(x) era. -They had gotten rid of dead weight Sulli (nothing against her as a person, but she was just there to be a visual). -Krystal had spent enough time with vocal trainers to become a decent vocalist. -Amber actually got lines and got to wear flattering outfits like the other members instead of baggy shorts and other monstrosities (androgynous doesn't have to mean ugly, folks). -The album was amazing and had a cohesive theme of classic house The only thing that would have made it better is if they had followed that up with another group promotion (I'm still hoping but I'm not holding my breath)
  9. I'm so tired of the users on here who constantly post news articles with an ideological bent. It doesn't matter what the bent is, even the user who posts stuff I tend to agree with annoys me. This isn't a political news site. The occasional article about important events or something of interest to people who follow east asia/entertainment news/hallyu is great and can spark good discussion. But these people do nothing but post stuff from the same news sites over and over again. It's annoying af. why aren't they banned for chrissakes Get a life. Or go post on news-specific forums where I don't have to see this crap.
  10. I used to be a big CL fan but all of her releases and performances as a solo artist have been kind of bleh (IDK why or what's going on with her, she could be having a hard time so this isn't an attack, it's just how I see it), so tbh it rankles to have her selected for the olympics. Like... you could pick any female group or solo artist to represent kpop to the international community, and that's who you go with? someone who hasn't released a korean song in years? 2NE1 were poised to be great on the international stage at one point and represented what was fresh and unique ideas, but kpop has moved on and left them behind. It's cruel how fast the industry moves but it's the truth. Promote or perish.
  11. I don't even live there but some things about the Korean legal system make no sense, like the anti defamation laws and the fact that people can pay to defer their sentence. Not even as those things pertain to celebrities but with other more insidious cases. The heir of Samsung just got out of jail when he was put in there for massive corruption just a few months ago. Koreans should be mad but talk is it's considered fine because Samsung is doing well economically so he 'deserves' to walk free because it'll boost the economy (but not help the little guy in any way ofc...). And the president has taken advantage of anti libel laws to go after people who said some stupid things about him online. It's not a real democracy, really. People always talk about corruption and problems in my country and we certainly have those in spades, but reading this kind of news reminds me it could be worse
  12. This is before I was a Shawol really but I remember when the misconceptions of me promotions happened I didn't want to watch the stages because I was like, 'well without him it won't be that great...'. now of course I love all the members but lol even a non-fan knew he was a special part of the group Wishing the best for them as 4 and I'll still be excited to see what they do as a group and as solo artists, if that's what they want to do.
  13. Got my copy of Poet|Artist in the mail today and listened to it for the first time. It's a perfect follow-up album to She Is (I know Story Op. 2 exists and I love it, but this album is more the spiritual successor to She Is than that). I'll miss him for a long time.
  14. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at a YGE shareholders meeting. Like what is their strategy, since it seems completely nonsensical to us? How do they justify it?
  15. was wondering why I loved It's U so much, looked up producer, and yup it's a sweetune track
  16. I don't understand the opiate crisis. Like I understand it intellectually, but on a personal level, I've been prescribed opiates and all I did was take a few and then stop when they were gone. They didn't make me feel particularly good. In fact I didn't really feel anything at all, just less pain. I did not feel any desire to keep taking then after I recovered. Am I just genetically lucky to not be susceptible or what? What is wrong with other people that makes them run out and shoot up heroin after their prescription runs out?
  17. "Why The Fuck Am I Still Awake: a story of internet addiction. Part: #140 By: Me"
  18. I don't think it's YGs fault though? Because I read that her US management is ignoring her because they want her to quit her Korean career or smth. Anyways I'm salty. This is more or less what she needed to release and yet... Looks a little more low budget than we're used to from a YGE artist but since its just a clip, probably shouldn't judge...
  19. I honestly can't tell BTS members aside from RM apart. I watched several videos on how to tell them apart (they all had unhelpful tips like 'X's chin is slightly wider that Y's') and looked at a lot of photos, but honestly in makeup they all look very similar. like their voices sound fairly different but I can't distinguish them in photos whatsoever. wth is wrong with my eyesight, lol.... I can tell tons of gg members apart
  20. yeppp not all the time though, it's not my favorite drink
  21. idk if you've read this already but because of one of your posts I thought you might find it interesting:) http://reappropriate.co/2017/12/respect-must-be-earned-bts-journey-towards-gaining-its-stripes-in-black-america/

  22. forum pet peeves: people who post new topics hours or even days after the news broke because they're too lazy to check the forum for previously posted threads. Like... that mv came out 8 hours ago, do you really think no one on here already thought to make a topic about it? or...that album came out 3 days ago, do you really need to make a unique thread just for your thoughts on it? It's so self-important and an obvious ploy for +1s
  23. I've been thinking about how selfless an aspiration to be an entertainer can be. Sure, some people do it because they want to be a star and be rich and famous, or because they want to create great art that expresses the human condition, but the number one reason I keep hearing from entertainers is that they want to make people happy, make them smile and laugh and forget about their troubles. And what an amazing thing to want to grow up to do. I grew up almost always wanting to be a scientist, but it was mainly because it brings me joy to explore and learn new things- some of which may end up indirectly helping humankind- but I've never wanted something so simple as to spend my life making other people happy. I really admire that (and of course, I also admire people who want to be doctors and nurses and therapists and social workers and cancer drug researchers, but this post is not about them).
  24. I'm so tired and drained from today. it's not really like I 'need someone to talk to' like some people who are really struggling with it, but it'd be nice to be able to chat with someone and forget about it a little
