  1. MTE. it's just not hit single material, even with how good the performance was
  2. it's the wrong thing to say but without knowing this guy.... I can say I never know what to say when someone reveals something painful like that, either (though I know by now not to say things like, 'well everything happens for a reason' but I don't know how old your bf is)
  3. No, I'm worried about them too OP, it's gotta be rough for them
  4. Since I was a young child in the 90s ('92 liner here) that didn't consume much media aside from whatever I was allowed to watch on PBS, I'm really more nostalgic for things I was a teenager for. Lately I've been listening to MCR albums and missing the long van rides with friends and my little shitty mp3 player. Updating my myspace and the early days of facebook when logging on was exciting (I'd get a message from my best friend or see what my crush was up to!) and not something that just bores me and raises my blood pressure.Texting on my first phone that was a nokia brick. games on the xbox 360 And yes, not having serious responsibilities
  5. I think about this a lot, not so much in kpop but in kbeauty and kfashion since that's the category in which most of my korean purchases lie. Hallyu and domestic korean pop culture is so very disposable and fast. Trends constantly change there, and many of the trends generate stuff. Every roadshop brand has a new line out with cute plastic packaging every quarter at least. everyone has to have new outfits for every season, most of which are made of poor quality fabric by sweatshop labor. So movements like #escapethecorset, which encourages women to feel comfortable in their own skin and save time, labor, and money spent on keeping up with trends and femininity, are also very positive for the environment. And in turn I have felt an urge to reduce my own consumerism. I feel happier now that I don't try to amass more stuff or keep up with trends at all.
  6. kpop exists because seo taiji and some breakdancers wanted to make korean Run DMC and the sooner people accept that the happier they'll be. its strength is in the fact that it adapts these things for a korean audience and is a fusion genre anyway for gg that debuted in 2015 or later (Twice's debut year), I think Loona, Gfriend, and Oh My Girl have interesting discographies. I'm also partial to CLC, Dreamcatcher, and G-idle. I don't know that any of them are the 'best' but they all have at least one vocally talented member with good stage presence
  7. I'm another former doubter that's now obsessed with it it's a nice respite from mainstream youtube which is so often damn loud. Sometimes I just wanna listen to someone talk quietly and make nice sounds
  8. I started getting into kpop right when Bubble pop promotions started but I checked out her previous single and 4minute stuff at the same time I miss 2nd gen....
  9. I like them about equally. They're not my favorite releases this year but they're fun songs and the b sides are good too
  10. my first bias group, I'm so pumped I've been listening to their discography since the announcement <3
  11. In case you're still on this boat

one of RBW's new groups filmed their comeback near your city

I recognize quite a few of those places, yes. :3 And what happened in the last few weeks had to happen sooner or later anyway, it's not like we didn't know that Yang Hyun Suk was creepy as fuck already. B.I. trying to bulk-buy LSD on the other hand, that's just being an idiot. XD

  12. It's kind of weird to me as an American to see how Korea drops everything when domestic tragedies happen. Like, the Camp fire in California was absolutely devastating, with far more casualties than the fire in Korea, and I don't remember any disruption in entertainment, despite many things being filmed in southern CA. It takes a tragedy of 9/11 or the Columbia shuttle disaster proportions for there to be canceled broadcasts nationally, if there's a bad fire or flood somewhere they report on it and there are red cross drives and etc. but no one is like, 'let's cancel tv out of respect for the victims'. And yet on the other hand Koreans are also nearly immune to news of North Korean sabre rattling. They've lived with the constant threat of war and monthly air raid siren tests for so long that no one gets worried about that. In the US there is a media frenzy whenever KJU makes an aggressive announcement and about a year ago everyone was worried about the threat of nuclear war like it was the 1980s again.
  13. I realize why people would take issue with this but... I really wish, if kpop companies want to be serious about pursuing international markets, which seems to be the plan with some companies, that they would debut more of their non Korean national trainees who can speak other languages. But they seem to be prioritizing Korean trainees more because they think foreigners are a liability, and I think that will only hold them back in the long run if kpop is the become a truly global genre.
  14. my friend complains continually about her apartment being in a noisy area. it is student housing next to some fraternities so there are people coming and going at all hours. I had previously suggested she look for a quiet place off campus to sublet and even sent her an option I came across as an idea of where to start looking. This happened before when we lived in the same city, too, and she chose to live in a shoebox room in a renthouse full of other messy students next to a loud frat. granted, options then were hard to find, but I was looking at the same time and found a quiet one bedroom for about the same price. Her response both times when I suggested she move somewhere else: 'but it's safer on campus! plus, I want to be close to my work'. a neighborhood full of quiet old people is deffo safer than a bunch of drunken frat guys, and walking 30 minutes to work is functionally the same as taking the bus 30 minutes, but....whatever. just stop complaining when you didn't take my reasonable advice lol
  15. Why do most people I befriend turn out to have something seriously wrong with them. Like I could be like, 'hurr hurr, it's clearly because you're crazy too!' and like yeah, my mental health is not the greatest, but I'm not a fucking misanthrope and I don't desire to harm other people or animals. Where do I find all the kind, caring people who don't regularly daydream about murder?
  16. can't relax, too busy laughing

...oh shit. I can't listen to it right now since I'm at work, but I'll surely check it out later. XD

      THIS ONE IS EVEN WORSE

  17. pet peeve: when western media outlets want to make a feature about avant-guard or youth culture or whatever in asia, and they interview a bunch of people who are clearly expats or have lived abroad for a long time. I know they do this because they want to talk to someone that they can communicate with easily, but it's really lazy. Don't be cheap; hire a translator and a local to show you around and you'll get authentic and more interesting information instead of a bunch of expat opinions.
  18. I generally like SME and YGE productions (well, more SME lately), but they spend an awful lot of time just having their new male and female artists recreate almost exactly the style of the previous generation and that's holding them back (SME's saving grace is that they have many, many projects in addition to their flagship groups, while YGE releases so little these days that it's even more noticeable that they're just trying to recreate 2NE1 and BB's successes). Fans always like to say, 'oh xyz new group has their own color!!!' (whatever that means), but how can they when they have artists with similar strengths, releasing the same style of music, with the same visual content? What brought this to mind was watching Mino's performances...he's styled to look like GD, his mannerisms when performing are similar to GD's, his music is not too far off from GD's, the choreo wouldn't look out of place in a GD MV. Probably this is not only the company's doing since he probably looks up to his senior but...It's kind of disappointing in such a young genre that had changed so much since its inception that the two legendary companies tend to play it safe. And yeah I know I'm not the only one to complain of kpop being repetitive but it's just something that was on my mind
  19. I have a friend who constantly talks about how she hates people, humans are the worst, blah blah. But she has many fulfilling relationships, so this is clearly a jokey-jokes narrative and not how she actually feels. Which is fine I guess, but I can't help but find that kind of negative, misanthropic rhetoric annoying. I'm an introverted autistic person but even so I appreciate other people in general and value the few relationships I have. I feel like if you sit around saying, 'I hate everyone, other people are all terrible', it's self-fullfilling because that negativity will attract more negativity. But I can't tell her this because she'll think I'm making a big deal out of nothing lol. So I just wanted to say it somewhere.
  20. thanks graphics team. I thought this site was going to be a goner so a holiday theme this year was an unexpected and welcome surprise also snow and pine trees are my favorite holiday motifs so I love the colors
