Oh wow, I had a pretty similar experience with you! I was really into C-pop back then too (specifically Leehom Wang, S.H.E., and briefly Fahrenheit). I never bothered to check TVXQ out until my friend showed me a pic of their Rising Sun promo. So I looked up Rising Sun, had a blast watching the MV, and then checked out Dangerous Love and the rest of their Banjun dramas. I watched a lot of their variety stuff as well. I remember they just released their Prince in Prague photo book when I first got into them and my first thought was "why do they look like anime characters all the time" lol actually they still look like anime characters to me lmao

Late reply is late and I apologize for dragging this convo as well! but yeah, Cassies were an intense bunch back in 2010, but I do have sympathy for them considering what the group was going through. Everything was just one big cloud and you didn't know who to believe. You give one unpopular opinion and the majority shuts you off. You show your support for one party and the other side bashes you. It was so dysfunctional. Seriously, props to the Cassies who stuck with the boys through thick and thin . Keep everything classy, Cassies. We've won a battle and we've become royalty LOL

You said it so well! :D Yes, they are truly an inspiration, and very admirable. Which is why I'm actually glad and thankful of what they had to go through back in 2010 and 2011. Reading about what they had to endure and what they've achieved in spite of all the setbacks really won me all over again. No wonder Bigeasts and Cassies are so loyal. Knowing Yunho and Changmin, how can you not? But man, soompi LOL. So much nostalgia. I was so active on soompi. I mainly posted in the Super Junior thread. TVXQ was my first K-pop band but SuJu was my bias group at the time. (SuJu was also one of the reasons why I left K-pop back in 2010 because my bias at the time, Hangeng, left the group LOL. 2010 was such a huge ugly mess for me no wonder I left lol)

Another user asked if TVXQ is still considered to be a top group in Korea so I was just replying to that ^_^ I feel the same way. They are doing wonderfully. I actually thought TVXQ would break up for good after losing 60% of its members. After all, a similar thing happened with HOT and history tends to repeat itself. The TVXQ split was one of the reasons why I left K-pop/SM fandom for a while back in 2009... it wasn't because I was devastated about their breakup. I wasn't really a huge stan anyway so their breakup didn't do much to me (although it was sad). I was more disappointed at the fact that I had nothing to fangirl over anymore LOL. I got back into the fandom around 2012 after "rediscovering" the TVXQ duo. They have impressed me so much with what they've achieved since the split, especially in Japan. They are doing so well and have far exceeded my expectations. I am positive that they can go on like this for a much longer time.

Since Gaon is based on shipment numbers (from distributors) and Hanteo numbers are based on realtime sales (from record stores that report to Hanteo), it seems to me that distributors just decided to not make as many copies for Tense as they did for Catch Me. And yes, Catch Me had a special edition which added to the Gaon shipments as they are counted as the same album. eta: lol I also replied about TVXQ's popularity but the other users here did a much better explanation haha. My brief response to that question would be this - TVXQ's popularity peak in Korea was 2008. I was already a fan of theirs by then and witnessed the TVXQ boom. Their popularity was no joke at all. They were pretty much the Backstreet Boys of Korea. In Japan, I'd say it is right now because they are still selling extremely well without much promotion. Their Japanese tours are huge and very successful.

  It is LOL I especially enjoyed season 2 because it had that ridiculous game/variety show haha       I don't know if those Oricon sales were from the original Korean version (which had Korean + English subtitles), as it's been a long time and info is lost, but AADBSK was definitely released in a Japanese version by Avex (which is still available on Yesasia).   Thanks! I think those All About TVXQ Season 1 60k sales I found on Baidu the other day might also be from the Oricon... But if it's an imported version, wouldn't that also reflect on Hanteo? So it might be a Japan version instead.

TVXQ used to have a DVD series called "All About TVXQ!" ... which were pretty much like EXO's First Year DVD, with random reality show-esque episodes and behind-the-scenes footage. The AADBSK series sold about the same as EXO's "First Year" if I can recall correctly... Around the 40k to 50k range. AADBSK had three seasons. According to this instiz page, the last season (released in 2009) sold the most at 98,609 copies (but TVXQ were splitting up at the time, so that may have resulted in the higher sales)

Yeah. I think this started around late 2012. Ever since the Liancourt Rocks dispute, Japan and Korea have not been the best of friends and Japan has been cockblocking Korean stars from appearing on major, high-profile network shows that air on primetime. They're not banned though, don't get me wrong. Just blocked to appear on the more popular, relevant shows.

Are there no schedules lined up for Toho to be featured on a Japanese TV show of some short to promote their album/tour? None at all? I know Korean stars are blocked to appear on major programs but I have a vague memory of a Korean group (maybe it was SNSD) who promoted their stuff on some Japanese show (albeit an irrelevant one). It would be nice to see Toho having at least some TV presence in Japan again to keep up with the momentum.
