Yeah, it feels like if they’re gonna save anyone it’s gonna be CKG, and who even knows about them since it feels like half the girls want to leave.
Latest CKG rumour is they might try and move the theater to a better location with more foot traffic. If true, they could even move some SHY girls thee if they needed to. If they did that with a few strong SNH girls, they might have a chance.
I think SB needs to just cut losses and divvy the most promising girls into SNH, BEJ, and GNZ.
They need to improve their export via online sales thru yesasia.com , etc. The other day I was on rakuten site, I saw a section that dedicated to AKB48. They are so content with the sales within China, and ignore the outside market. You can tell from its vids on the Chinese sites and YT. Wish STAR48 could read this thread.
IDK about online sales, but they do need to make more available on streaming sites and on iTunes. iTunes can good not only for music but concerts and MVs.

A very interesting editorial with some good analysis.
I stayed up to watch both the live stream of both SIII and HIII's stage performances today. It was quite emotional, to say the least. Members and the audience are treating the performances as if it's their last.
Considering all things that were recently said, it might be for some of them.

Interesting new editorial in SNH48 Today
https://snh48.today/growing-pains-the-future-of-snh48-group/
Oh wow! I can see the reasoning behind all of this though. I think a mixture of both Korean and Japanese idol culture is a great way to move forward.
Edit: Just realized this thread is going to get a little confusing/complicated.

This slaps! I love it!
Here is the teaser for the new SNH48 MV "Now and Forever"
That tiny little CG lady is creepy.
BTW, where's 7Sense's Swan MV?

Really? I didn't hear it. When were you there? I heard DA PUMP, MISIA, Yonezu Kenshi, and King & Prince mostly.
I was there the first two weeks of October.
I heard 'TT' a bit in Shibuya. But the most I heard it was in Osaka. It was everywhere we turned. Edit: I also heard it while in Kyoto, but not a lot.
King & Prince's 'Memorial' was about to(?) come out. So there were commercials on T.V. and advertisements for that. Even on the front of convenience marts. I'd get off the train and across the street was this big K&P banner smack dab on a Family Mart.
That DA PUMP song was just everywhere. On T.V., in stores. By the end of the trip, we were making our own versions of it.
'Come on Baby! America! "Stop taking Lialda if you experience: nausea, headaches or diarrhea." '
'Come on Baby! America! "If you or a loved one have Mesothelioma, you may be entitled to financial compensation." '

It's a cute song. I'll be playing this every so often.

I disagree, I’d much sooner claim SNSD reached that level at their peak and they did not, so I wouldn’t. They’re even referenced frequently still but it doesn’t make them representative. In terms of impact fact remains that twice’s last viral hit was TT in jp which is what they continue to perform at various functions. Sales wise 46G eclipses them in what... a day. And I’d never expect those heights of recognition for them either. True talent isn’t the only factor. But I’m not speaking of technical talent I’m speaking of image and general impact. Household name level impact - that in itself is a talent. That takes decades of consistency coupled with Madonna-like diversity and ability to reinvent oneself. No one on this list imo has displayed that not even my own favs perfume. I’d never assume they’d rise beyond their current status bc that’s simply not their aim. The only reason I’d put my money of Sayaka and airi is bc their path is still unclear and open ended. They’re also well liked enough to move beyond the idol label bc that’s an obstacle imo.
I honestly believe abra has a point here. It’s an example of an open ended poll with too many possible answers and ways of interpretation.

I'll give it to you about Twice and TT. That song was playing everywhere I went when I was in JP (along with that stupid U.S.A song).
And a question for everyone on here: Do 46G's sales suffer from bulk buying as much as 48G?

Reading the tweet, it doesn't sound like "Who's gonna be the next Namie" rather "who's gonna be the next big female singer now that Namie retired?"
Namie's legacy and influence is huge, so I don't think we'll ever see anyone like that again. But now that the current top is gone, someone else has to be the top. Just no one is at the level she was.
IA.
No one is really going to be the next Namie. The time at which she debuted and that she was active in had favorable conditions for her situation to happen. The industry and culture now are far different from the one she came into. It's not impossible for someone to have the same cultural impact and career as she did, but it's highly unlikely.
-
You do realize that in order to even come close to namie’s legacy you’d have to have an omnipresence in the industry for over a decade and the kind of zeitgeist cultural impact that doesn’t just come with sales or viral hits? I’m sorry but realistically I don’t think any group could achieve that, let alone a group like twice. Like that’s laughable. AKB has a greater chance of that happening, and it’s not going to happen. I agree that Kana couldn’t, but I don’t think Sayaka or Airi should be counted out. The latter has just begun her solo career but has incredible potential, as does Sayaka. Sayaka is also immensely popular not just with wotas. Not to mention both are TALENTED.

Yeah, I realize that. I'm not counting Sayaka or Airi out. If you read what I wrote you'd see that they were two of the three I'd thought could. And with Twice it is possible. I'm not saying that'll happen next year or the year after that. But if they continue on the path that they are right now, then eventually yes it would happen. And the whole talent thing really doesn't matter sometimes with the public. We've seen talented people fall by the wayside and mediocrity rise to amazing heights.
I think this poll just proves that when you ask dumb questions you get dumb answers.
It's not like Namie did much better before she announced her retirement
Meh, she did the song for the Olympics and had many other high profile endorsements right before her retirement. But the only way we'd know if Utada would be on Namie's level come retirement is if she actually retires. No hiatus, but actually leaves the industry.
-
For me, it was Yuru Camp and A Place Further Than The Universe. Yeah... my year peaked pretty early. But I've been meaning to watch Bunny Girl Senpai and since a lot of you said you liked Asobi Asobase, I'll take a look at that too.
-
ok let's discuss this:
and now, this will sound like shade but i mean no shade but... kumi? really? there's really no way, unless she decides to do a complete renovation of her entire brand and creative direction, and she probably won't bc her established one works fine. well it works. same with ayumi. i'm a fan of both.
nishino is way more likely imo, and i can definitely see airi becoming the next big soloist if she makes good moves. utada... like that confused me, does she really have any more to prove? she's already a league of her own in my mind.
i could see sayaka go solo and rise to unknown heights
all in all a lot of these names make no sense. they're either far too established, far too niche or have nothing close to in common with namie, her gp appeal or brand as a soloist all-star.
perfect example is putting a kpop group there... like... wut
I mean, Koda Kumi could've made a good comeback if she played her cards right after Meguminohito became a tik tok meme and she had the public's attention. But unfortunately, she wasted it.
Kana Nishino will forever be a boring constant in the industry. She's not going anywhere, but she's reached her peak already so she better be happy people have some interest in her.
Perfume seems to be at Kana level of interest in the public but for some reason, I feel like they can disband at any time.
I don't want to count Ayumi out but... yeah. I'm counting her out.
Counting Utada out as well. Her comeback was highly anticipated because she was gone for so long. I don't think people as much as they did now. She's still above Kana and Kumi because she's respected as an artist.
For me, E-Girls are missing that X-factor. They have the right ingredients so far but are missing something. Sometimes they seem hollow.
Misaka Uno for me is like a tier below Kana.
AKB had their chance. They're done; as well as most of their sister groups. There's a reason Aki-P went to Mnet and possibly JYPE.
The only ones I can think of possibly taking Namie's place are Airi Suzuki, Sayaka Yamamoto and Twice (yes, even Twice). Airi is a long shot though.

The solo MV for "Don't Touch" by Ju JingYi has been released
It would've been better if the whole music video had the same feel like the last part with the candles. It was too cute for such a song.

Really hope this doesn't cause problems for her in the future.
-
All a result of the mess that was the Faka / Kotete issue of late 2017. They had promised a solo version for her and it might have been not so weird if they had delivered close to the other one but doing it a year later is beyond strange.
Kiku hasn't been very busy lately so this might be something that got resurrected as a way to make sure she stayed on the radar.
Well, this is a very lazy way (and cheap) to do that. Wished they could've given her new material and had 'Don't Touch' as a b-side.

I'm looking forward to it, but it just seems weird since it was already released by other members of SNH.

Instrumental is great but the overall song isn't doing anything for me. SB is being very artsy but we all know the songs that make it to the top are far from being that. Maybe once we hear it in Korean.
IA. While listening to it I was wondering if the song was originally written in Korean because the Chinese ver. doesn't flow with the melody.

The instrumental for Swan is fantastic. They're really trying to make their Korean advancement stick. Do you guys think it will?

This video is going viral in Japan. WARNING SENSITIVE CONTENT
The victim supposedly a former Popteen model. Holy shit...
What is wrong with these people?!
-
Something is definitely going on with SB lately. Several members from GNZ and SHY are announcing their exit. What's in common? They are all on tight school schedule and cannot guarantee regular attendance of stage performances.
I suspect that SB is forcing these members to choose between school and theater.
Here's a list of members who announced their exit:
Fang Xiaoyu of Team G
Chen Yuqi of Team G
Yang Yunhan of Team SIII
In addition, it seems that two members from BEJ, Zhang Han Zimo and Lan Hao, both of Team J, are asked to vacate their dorm room. Don't know whether they are also asked to choose between school and theater.
The fact that Bai Xinyu of Team C joined as a concurrent member at BEJ seems to corroborate with my suspicion. She goes to school in Dalian and therefore cannot attend stage performance in Chongqing. Beijing is relatively closer to Dalian and airline tickets are way cheaper from Dalian to Beijing. Being a concurrent member at BEJ seems to be a way for Bai to avoid making that choice.
That’s rough, but I do understand. Sometimes you can’t have it all. If you can’t fulfill your responsibilities that you said you could something has to give. But I do think the girls that left made the right choice.
-
omg I loved this so much, I don't know how they managed to turn the prechorus into the chorus, but it sounded so good!
I was really impressed with the production as well. Her other remixes are good too, so I hope she'll do more of IZ*ONE's music in the future.
