Recent Dal Shabet SNS Posts: Woohee Ahyoung Subin Serri

Online via a seller on ebay. There's a folded double sided poster in the middle of the magazine too - with a slightly different version of Woohee's short shorts photo on one side and the front view of Subin in the white dress on the other. I think there are one or two Dal Shabet photos in the magazine which weren't posted with the initial batch of scans, at least I don't remember this Subin one anyway!

Chic'6 Muscats had an MV and performed on TV a few times on Mnet. For me, that's far closer to the k-pop definition of a debut. Either Way I don't think we're really getting anywhere with this conversation!

Indie bands don't count as a debut! Did someone forget that Way had a real job before Crayon Pop and CEO Hwang had to work hard at convincing her parents to let her join because they were so strongly against it?

Not mismanaged, that's just how Chrome was set up. After CEO Hwang drafted in Way to replace Serang she was straight into the recording studio the day after joining and on stage within a week. Chrome was never a 'normal' k-pop company, that's part of the charm. It's pretty likely that without Chrome, Way, Geummi and Ellin wouldn't have debuted. Soyul, having already been in the industry probably would have got a second chance somewhere and Choa may or may not have continued auditioning while going to college. There's no reason to feel bad for them really either, without the money Bar x3 earned Crayon Pop would have just disbanded after a year and disappeared without a trace. Instead they've had a hit single, won on public broadcast, collected a bunch of trophies at end of year music award ceremonies, toured with Lady Gaga, been invited to SXSW, performed in Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Indonesia etc... and they're moving towards their 4 year anniversary as a group - that's a pretty good result in the k-pop industry!

Sold his photography equipment, blew his savings and borrowed money to set up Chrome and debut Crayon Pop. He didn't even tell his parents what he was doing, they only found out when they came across the Chrome Ent. website about 6 months later.

I think the kids typing in all caps on her instagram can probably calm down... it appears to be from a cartoon series called "ì„¤ë ˆë‹¤" which she says she likes. (I think she actually says "this series is the best" on the instagram post) http://www.seolleda.com I'd say she probably just got the book "내마ìŒì—ë´„" since the first post is tagged with that too.

Let's face it, even if people don't like MBK it should at least save her from the direction her post Dal Shabet career was headed up to now. I'm not too surprised they decided to take her on under a new name either, I'm hoping that's part of their attempt to relaunch her acting career away from the type of film she's been doing these past couple of years. Based on the interview she did at the start of the year she hasn't had the best of experiences since becoming an actress, hopefully things get better from here out.

Happy Boram Day (well, it still is where I am... although based on my location everyday is Boram day!) Boram is too easy to read sometimes... example:

To condense it down to "Chrome are bad at promoting and expanded too quickly" over simplifies things too much. We have to remember first how Chrome Entertainment came about, CEO Hwang sank a lot of his own money into launching both the company and Crayon Pop. For roughly the first year he saw no return on that investment - music videos (Korean and Japanese) were made for Saturday Night and Bing Bing, they promoted Bing Bing twice and released Dancing Queen as a digital single but still failed to chart. I believe he said himself in interview that Bar Bar Bar was basically his last roll of the dice with Crayon Pop - either succeed with this one song or shake hands and go separate ways. As Bar Bar Bar started to gather momentum and go viral there was a concerted effort from some sections of the Korean press/netizens to try and damage Crayon Pop with controversies and scandals. Although this didn't manage to derail Bar x3, it cost Crayon Pop bookings and advertising contracts at the time and you can still see the after effects in the comments on most articles about Crayon Pop almost 3 years on. CEO Hwang made the somewhat pragmatic choice to promote Bar x3 into the ground (with a small company like Chrome and no guarantee of hitting big a second time, he decided to try and make as much money off the back of this unexpected success as he could). This meant that aside from a Christmas single Crayon Pop didn't release a follow up to Bar Bar Bar until April 2014, almost a year after their last promotions. Crayon Pop had only been promoting that follow up, Uh-ee for less than 2 weeks when the Sewol disaster took place and the whole K-Entertainment industry shut down. The song had charted in the weekly top 10 in it's first week but nobody in the country was in the mood for up tempo dance pop in the aftermath of a national tragedy. A few months later Crayon Pop got the offer of a support slot on Lady Gaga's Artpop tour in the US which they couldn't really turn down. Throw in a few other overseas promotions in Japan, China and Thailand thanks to Bar x3's viral success internationally and you've filled up Crayon Pop's schedule for 2014. Prepping the FM mini album and performing at SXSW took them up to the end of March 2015. At this point even a Shinsadong Tiger produced lead single couldn't compensate for the loss of public profile in the 20 or so months since Bar x3 broke big. (For context, EXID released Ah Yeah 3 months after their first music show win with Up and Down). A combination of bad luck, difficult choices having to be made and an overly long turnaround between active Korean promotions has left us in the position we find ourselves in now.
