It’s I don’t really care about his sexual preferences whatever it is. Human life isn’t always revolving around sex. Yes, there’s more than one reason to call someone in the lonely night and to love someone and to depend on someone. Not only ‘oppa is gay’. He might not be straight, but that call does not prove nor deny anything. Except him being is an idiot of course.

I just finally caught up with this thread! I've read a couple of people mention some pushback on people suspecting Joshua and Jeonghan (individually, not as a ship). The general line of reasoning seems to be that both are suspected because of their appearance and demeanor (correct me if I'm wrong) which is a valid concern. My previous understanding, however, was that the two are largely suspected because of their seeming lack of interest in females, their body language around males and -- for Jeonghan at least -- what appears to be something of a desire for male attention.

 

 

I've also seen some say what I understood as essentially Joshua (and NCT's Jaehyun) can't be gay or at least that it's less likely because of their religious background (again, correct me if I'm wrong), which doesn't seem very logical to me because homosexuality is not a choice and because of my own upbringing in an ultraconservative, hyper-religious community and family, complete with very stereotypically "masculine" expectations for males.

 

 

If I may ask and look at the situation from another perspective, what specifically makes those of you who suspect that Jeonghan and Joshua are straight suspect that they are straight?

I don't know about Jeonghan, I think many indeed suspect him because of his appearance and fanservice, but Joshua's entire being is full of rainbows and sugar.

The way it's been explained to me is that there is something akin to a switch in our brain which determines whether impulses come from the outside world (the parts of the brain responsible for the outside world, that is) or from other processes in the brain itself, like thoughts, ideas, imagination etc.

 

Now apparently, some things can cause this switch to flip temporarily, like intense dreaming, psychotic episodes, or drugs, including weed. Trouble is that some people have this switch weaker than it's healthy. Then, if you play with it too much, you can get full-blown psychosis.

 

So it seems pretty pointless to argue what single cause there is to blame. A knife cuts butter, not stone. Whose "fault" is it that butter gets cut, the knife's or butter's?

I find the subject of homosexuality in Kpop pretty interesting because they do so much fanservice (not even early One Direction could keep up with that) while gay people are not easily accepted by society at all so I've been reading this thread.

 

I have to ask, don't you think that an idol who was really gay would be all the more careful not to appear as such? Because a lot of the "evidence" that's discussed here is just regular fanservice or young boys being affectionate and ramping it up a bit cause there's cameras everywhere and most of them are probably genuinely close friends. Wouldn't an idol who was gay be less likely to engage in that behaviour, espcially if they had no intention of coming out of the closet for the duration of their career and before they had to enter military service (where they could actually be prosecuted if that came out)? Not to mention if the other band members knew about one of them being gay I think they'd be more averse to doing skinship etc. They might not be homophobic but with how much of a taboo homosexuality still is in SK, I'd think they wouldn't be like "awesome, let's cuddle and joke about how you're my boyfriend". Of course it'd be great if they were, but I don't think that's very realistic.

 

I'm sorry btw if I misunderstand the nature of the thread and it's more about just showing cute moments between "ships" (which is fine and they're cute so more power to that) I just want to know if people are actually thinking they're gay or if they're just enjoying the boys' cute interactions.

To the last question, both. People sometimes confuse the two, but that's another matter. To the first question, they might, and some idols on my personal list tend to hold back. Then again, look at Heechul and his boldness. Look at how Jaejoong treats the topic of his marriage. Look at Jo Kwon's very existence. Every queer idol has their own way of dealing with the closet. Fanservice, when done right, offers a confusion cloak.

I am honestly one person who knows that climate change is very real. It's always existed. From what I learned in astronomy and all the earth sciences I took to escape the three main ones, climate change/global warming existed long before humans. Have humans accelerated the process? Definitely.

 

The reason I don't care about climate change: Well, the earth may become uninhabitable to humans, but the earth will be just fine. It will continue to exist in the planetary system no matter what just as many planets exist that are completely uninhabitable to us and frankly, recycling a carton box is not going to reverse what is an inevitable process.

 

The earth has survived meteors, ice ages, excruciating heat waves and for a long time, living things could not survive on it. Dinosaurs were wiped out and the earth still kept on spinning.

 

There is a strange human arrogance and unrealistic notion in thinking that we can somehow control the planet and stop what is very inevitable.

 

Plus, there is literally nothing we can do that could stop climate change. I mean maybe if the industrial revolution didn't happen, perhaps, but no amount of solar panels, windmills, etc can stop the damage done by planes, cars, deforestation and a tons of other shit.

 

On that note, liberals have seriously fucked up the climate change argument. The spokesperson for climate change rolls around on a private jet... You can't tell people the world is fucked while you are contributing far more damage than even the non believers.

Actually, we are not trying to save the planet, we're trying to save our sorry asses from the consequences of it going haywire.

 

That we most likely cannot do it or at the very surest won't is another matter. At this stage, I believe, it is more productive to think about what to do with all the cities located at the shoreline.

Everyone is saying Logan is breaking super hero mold and it's the best superhero movie ever and I am tempted!

 

However, this is how every superhero movie has been praised only for me to leave fuming yet I am still tempted. I still hold on to thee hope that one day someone will make a gritty and philosophically moving superhero movie that will make you leave the cinema thinking wow.

It's definitely not. It is gritty and good, but doesn't offer much we haven't seen in other movies, expressed better. Watchmen were far, far, far better.

Have you ever had a friend wingman you and then cockblock within the span of ten minutes. My friends and I were in Hongdae and we were trying to catch a taxi back to Itaewon a little bit past 4 am. Some Korean guy randomly says hi to my pretty friend (of course), and then he realized she was with us. He looks at me and says "oh, handsome!" And she quickly tells him in Korean that I'm gay. He was shocked, he refused to believe it (people in general really never catch on, I even get asked if I'm gay when I'm with other gay friends in the gay district...). He seemed to want me to prove it because he got reaaal close to my face, he wanted to make out with me. If it was in Itaewon, i would have gone for it, but we weren't so I didn't. PS I should have. Anyway, I was setting things up to lead him in taking me back wherever the hell he was staying, and at some point he offers to give me his phone number, so he uses my phone to call his phone and bam. I was moving in on sealing the deal when suddenly my friend begins to drag me away because they got a taxi. So I went with my friends and at this point, we're not actually sure if he was gay or just messing around. While we're on the ride back, the guy calls me and asks me where I'm going. He goes on about how he wanted to have sex with me, etc etc, but of course that wasn't going to happen. And yeah, no doubts about his gayness. He probably didn't remember in the morning because no one was sober tbh, but he wanted to meet up this morning in a hotel in Sinchon. Didn't happen, flop. I stayed away from hooking up for the past two months, so my body is kind of yearning for it. I added him on Kakao, went this his pictures, and he might have a beard... I'm no homewrecker, but I also give myself some leeway with justification that I'm not the first and won't be the last guy he'll have sex with while he's with her. So I'm still down.

Yannopoulos' wording was fucking disgusting, but that's because of the whole clergy scandal and old smears against gay men. If he is willingly connecting himself to that shit, he is brainless at the very least. Then again, he is a gay Republican, what do you expect.

 

On the topic of teenage sexuality, however, I feel that Americans are weirdly hung up about it. That the only possibility you can see is exploitation says more about the culture of the country than the nature of the act. I can just say that if there were someone to guide me when I was 16, maybe I wouldn't have had to suffer so much.

Not in Korea, sure. Those who want to let it fly over their heads can still do so. But in light of what he's been doing and saying these past few years, I think the message is clear.
