  1. You seem to have expressed two basic principles I disagree with -- first, that what gives people trouble is the sign (word, picture) itself and not what it signifies, and second, that "particularly bad" means "the only thing that's bad". One evil certainly does not erase another, which no-one here was suggesting (contrary to how you might have read it). But that does not prevent us from seeing there are lengths of human depravity that are rarely reached, i. e. there is some kind of measure. After all, we give different prison sentences for different deeds. And the "uniqueness of Holocaust" is certainly not the only lesson people learned. However, that we haven't learned enough is something we can agree on.
  2. The sign and the deed. Once again, the power here is derived exactly from what these symbols stand for. No-one would give a shit about swastikas if there were no Nazis. No-one is saying it's the word or the sign itself that's the problem. But they cannot be divorced from what's signified. Second, what we are dealing with here isn't just killing, not even killing of civillians. Humans have been killing humans from the beginning of history. This time it was different, however, because of the amalgamation of utter inhumanity with industry, order, and indeed a kind of practical reason. This was not a crime of passion, as it were, or of power, not even of hatred. This was orderly, laborous extermination "for the good of mankind". That's what makes it unique. That certainly does not make it the only thing that's wrong with the world, and no-one here is saying so.
  3. To an extent you are right. There would always be grey areas where intent would have to be scrutinised, but I do not ask Indians to abandon that symbol, for example. But that sort of answers it -- we don't give Nazis exclusive possession over the swastika, only a certain kind of swastika. The Nazi symbol usage tends to be specific enough.
  4. Because we cannot change that history, that's why, and because that utter inhumanity indeed makes it special and needs to be remembered. To argue otherwise is the same as to wonder why wearing "I support rape" is questionable. I hope you wouldn't say that this sentence doesn't stand for personal tragedy either so it would be fine.
  5. Stupidity makes him guilty enough. If there's a defence for him, I'd say he just threw it on without looking at it -- as always, because they really can't pay attention to their outfits, they'd cry most of the time.
  6. I have been to Auschwitz with a school trip. For the first time in my life, I believed that human suffering can seep into soil, walls, corridors, the very air. I have seen the piles of hairbrushes, children's boots, human hair. Trust me that it needs to have a hold over people, including the symbols, because no, words don't have just the power we give them now -- they bear the weight of their history with them. That's what meaning is.
  7. It's great and I like the small details, like the birds and clouds, but the palette might be too bright for some eyes.
  8. Don't believe anything you haven't seen a video of. Plus, the picture tries to say it's Onew and Taemin.
  9. Wow. Hello, hello! \o/ Which boy you like the most, if any?
  10. Careful, Taemin, someone might grab your mike... one hand down at its end, the other just under that bulbous head, holding it firmly, caressing it gently. I'd like to hear you sing then, dear boy.
  11. K-pop needs more Bs to cut through that BS. Because he is TAEMAN!!! Taeman, Taeman gives no fucks whenever he can gives no shit doesn't care laugh with him if you dare Look out! Here comes our Taemin, man!
  12. Minho sadly has that kind of face that leaves me completely cold. Too round, too... I don't know, generic? Hard to express. When I look at him, my brain opens the friendzone.
  13. Well, Min understood the quote as being legit -- with a great deal of surprise about the boldness I might add -- so the meaning was there at least.
  14. Literature is a medium, not a level of quality. After all, there are lots of utterly abysmal books, yet they still belong. From this point of view, things -- in this case comics -- are better left to just be what they are. It's a question of naming, that is, a language game.
  15. Oh come on, GD's tiny. Anyway, bitches forget that platform shoes aren't there to make you sneakily taller. They just... exist. Sadly.
  16. You're all back! *tears of happiness* Twitter? I refuse. -_- And of course I sniffed you out by stumbling upon Freaked's tumblr with my internet-scooping skills. From the knees up, boy looks like a pre-war bolshevik.
  17. I loved the old OP. It was a great piece of work.
