Which male idols do you think are gay?
h0neanias replied to cold soba's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
It's on YT, too (from 0:17): I really wonder what that laugh was about. -
He rocked the whole outfit. It flatters his body something fierce. Your feelings may be confusing being gay with masculinity and femininity. When he's being cute, elevated, poised, he flames, but I don't think he tries to "appear gay", that's an unintended consequence. He does not usualy show his aggresive side, though I'm sure he does have one -- that, however, makes him no more receptive to the female of the species in my humble eyes. We have a thread for elaborations. For once, Onew didn't screw up the magic? Lucky magician. My first thought was those were condoms. My brain is really too far gone.

Yes, if you process it and make a judgement, but then we can follow the reasoning back or see the actual effects, I suppose. It's a grunt when there is no following and no seeing. The word "wrong" itself is no guarantee. Not inevitably, but in that case you gave it seems probable. Because as long as that value judgement (say, "women are inferior") is based on a picture of reality, we can dissect it, but it may well happen we arrive at a habit, a life form -- "we live this way". In a sense, human tendency to look for ontological justifications works in our favour, because those judgements tend to be based on prejudice and misrepresentations, but we may well discover there is no ontological premise at all beneath, that the premise is an empty custom. (And for someone like me it is a cruel thought that an empty custom may prove stronger than the push for knowledge.)

Isn't that like the place with the highest gay concentration after San Francisco?

I'm asking because "it's their culture" is basically to say "everyone does it, so they do it, too" -- as opposed to a personal stance, apparently. So where would be the boundary? It's a question akin to "how prevalent it must be to become a rule" or "how often must I do it for it to become a habit". It's clear I'm not expecting an answer, if only because I can't give one myself. "Wrong/stupid" in this context would be merely an expression of rejection; anything could stand in its place, even a grunt. It's irrelevant what you base this grunt on if you make that grunt alone -- that is, nothing has been actually said. So I don't think it would be a good example of a failure to recognise "where she is coming from", it would be a failure to think at all. Culture in this case is a form of blindness, a thing to be overcome. There should be a process of (necessarily partial) dismantling. The more I think of it, however, the more it seems it would be mere gamble, because sooner or later we'd arrive at our incompatible premises. (It is posible to believe all people essentially worthless and only then gaining value, for example.) And so if you thought of culture as merely a strategic obstacle, then we'd actually agree about a necessity of recognition. Once again it boils down to making a pitch, which is admittedly not an encouraging view (though maybe a necessary one).

And if you do recognise the source of difference? Has anything changed, apart from recognising a level of prevalence, of accustomisation? (After all, one can be entrenched in a view from purely personal reasons as well.)

"Not to accept a fact" seems impossible. I may be in denial of factuality, but once I recognise something as a fact, the work is done. The acceptance would be purely epistemological, to clarify. My point is that "they do it because it's their culture" is akin to "it's red because that's its colour". They're accustomed to doing it, that's all. The question is one of defendability (and the difference between conclusions and behaviour, at the same time). True, however, that there is a mechanism of colour perception, and so it makes sense to ask what we mean by culture. I must, however, recognise my powerlessness. That, too, is a fact. Writing on this forum has no consequences on Korean music industry. Let's say we'd all agree that it shouldn't be. What exactly have I accomplished apart from having a good feeling?
-
To me, the sentence "I dont like it, but I'll accept that it's their culture" adds nothing to the plain "I don't like it", since that it's their culture is a fact, which I have to accept at any rate. (It would be no excuse, as it were, only a shrug -- which, admittedly, is a valid recognition of its own.)

Were that the Hallyu8 thread accessible. We had one of our discussions about something similar, and I put forth a position similar to yours (with the added stress on the non-essentiality of cultural traits, i. e. there is nothing uniquely "ours" or "theirs" in them). And I agree with you on the gifts themselves as well.

How come I'm not on the list? Please rectify.

Weirdest piece of underwear ever... well, maybe after that penis cone some Amazonian natives wear.

No personal experience, but if someone asked for my opinion, I'd never recommend it. I've heard too many horror stories of infections, allergies, and chipped teeth. We have no beef with other forums, because our forum isn't run by a self-important prick. Anyhow, that log-out bug is a known issue; try to click "remember me" below the login. They are preparing some changes, apparently, so Noh stopped giving a shit about the current version as per habit.

You know, if you want a ship for Onew, I'd be more concerned with the adoring looks Taemin throws his way. -
Good thinking. All I'm saying is that people don't need to mistranslate when every spell and gesture screams "I like boys and I cannot lie".
-
Yeah. True beauty should be judged by the ability to survive a passport photo. Congratulations, Lee Taemin, you've passed.

Comme. And if someone wants to infer, faulty French is the least of your worries; it surely can't change anything either way.

Not to bring the topic back, but the connection to Japan should make Koreans aware. They were both Axis powers. Anyway, slap upside the head to anyone connected to that bloody shirt and moving on.
