often music show stages are still pretty unfiltered, i've been able to spot acne scarring in ending fairies. also some variety shows. certain fansign photos. that's why it's good to look at multiple sources and not see one photo were oppa/unnie looks off-model and be like "omggg ruined forever!!"

rlly? i always feel like in music shows, idols that are known for being tan seem to have lighter skin so i always suspect it to be edited in some form, but i guess it could just be the work of stage lighting and makeup....

Is it only me or mld used Wonyoung as their blueprint?

    FTXv-mCVIAAoTf8?format=jpg&name=large

not surprised. they always use it girls as their blueprint/standard. i remember back when they would compare new and coming visuals with seolhyun (former it girl, i say former since her rep seems to be a bit tarnished following the whole jimin bullying scandal, and i don't see that many articles of her anymore, at least compared to the other it girls like jennie and wonyoung), and her body was considered the most desirable (prolly still is). jennie... we got several girls wanting to look like her (in fact, she's a popular ps template in korea), i also remember so many influencers/ulzzangs/idols following her hairstyle, makeup, fashion sense... wonyoung? she's practically the 4th gen standard. any new pretty girl/visual is bound to be compared to her.

Came across this recently and it baffled me. On top of not being able to trust so called "ID", "pre debut", "fan" or "unfiltered" photos, you can't even trust video footage anymore. I didn't even know you could apply such live smoothing filters 😂

at this point the only way we could ever tell what they rlly look like is by seeing/meeting them in real life or at least some candid press videos...

BoA had a lot done but my opinion is that the idol life just makes you age faster with all the extreme dieting, the stress/pressure, very little sleep/rest and gruesome training practicing plus the fact that smoking and heavy drinking are very common.

On a tv show she said that her hip is in such bad shape that she developed a condition that is usually found in much older people and iirc she went on a tirade about the fact that she blames her small stature on SM because they had her on a super strict diet when she was super young and she believes that that stunted her growth so it wouldn't really surpise me if her job is what it makes her look older.

another reason for me to side eye agencies allowing rlly young kids to debut...

Pretty sure parents were more than okay with their kid becoming an idol (if the didn’t push her for that even) and i doubt any procedures could’ve been done on a minor without parents’ consent, so parents are here to blame too with the company ofc

that's why they rlly should keep a close watch on their kid at all costs. their kid is basically "fresh meat" for the predators in the industry. if they thought the kpop industry is all sunshine and rainbows they are unfortunately mistaken.

but anyways, if she did get procedures and the parents greenlit it: the thought of her parents being okay with someone as young as her being operated on for cosmetic purposes, when she's not even done with puberty?? that's just too much. are they srsly not afraid of their daughter possibly getting botched or even getting complications during ps? or what effects it could have on her self esteem? since she's not done with puberty yet, i doubt any ps she may have had done is going to age well.

Wow this girl’s lip fillers jumped out. Why tf did they to that to a 13 y.o???

Also, Shana. Seems like they cut her inner corners and did sth to her nose?

    During gp999

good lord why are idols rlly getting sooooo young??? 😭😭😭 13??? how is she supposed to deal with idol workload at such a young age???? like i know this not new but come on! didn't pnation decide not to debut a 12 yr old due to his age? why is this so normalized? she's the same age as my cousin who's born in the same year, and i can never ever imagine my cousin being an idol and going thru the stress of being one. i sure hope her parents are keeping a close watch on her as much as they can. we all know there are so many pedophile freaks in the industry, including some idols themselves who have been caught in the dms of rookies/much younger idols

That is actually happening. The person was stopped at the US airport because their ID was photoshopped and they had to explain that it's just the way things are in SK lol

oh geez rlly? and somehow they don't find that an inconvenience? 😬😬 if i were that person i would get so sick and say "fuck all" and just deadass tell them not to photoshop my face bc i am simply not dealing with that bs every single time i fly. imagine having to explain to them like "oh actually everyone in our country is just incredibly insecure and has a complex and cares too much abt appearance bc our beauty standards are so incredibly toxic so we have to overly photoshop the very photos that are supposed to be a proof of our identity 😁😁"

incredibly wack. defeats the whole purpose of having a photo as proof of identity.

That’s really interesting but won’t they get detained or something when going to another country?
My friend even once got hold back at a US airport just because they thought she looked different from her passport id without makeup.

I mean it’s one thing to airbrush your skin but literally changing your face shape and facial features to the point you become unrecognizable is pretty bizarre, especially for id pictures.

idk how they're going to deal with that possibly happening lmao

sorry if it’s been spoken about before but does anyone what chaeyoung from twice has had done??

tbh, it's kinda hard to pinpoint what chaeyoung has done. some ppl here have commented that she may have had a jaw shave (due to her perfect v shaped face and the seemingly "missing" mandible) and chin fillers but apparently she's had that shape since childhood. but even i have a hard time pointing out what may have possibly changed. she might've possibly done your typical lip fillers, but other than that i rlly am not sure abt what she may have had done.

I am sorry, this is going to be a bit of a rant, but I just watched Nmixx's JYP performance, and this just came over me. I feel like it is kind of said, how I feel like in 4th gen I can already notice nosejobs without seeing reference photos, they just became *that* obvious. And I understand that the industry standard for visuals became extremely high, but I feel in some cases the new noses doesn't do anything for these idols?? I mean it is obviously based on personal preference, but I feel like Nmixx's Lilly, Haewon, Lesserafim's Sakura, Eunche..for me their noses does not look attractive or whatsoever to me, just fake. But no hate, their body their choice (at least I hope so), if it makes them happy let them be, I just feel like there is so much unnecessary PS that I honestly feel pity for these idols. They just want to sing, dance and perform yet they have such huge expectations from fans, netizens and their company.
Sorry for the rant, really, but I just had to get it out

imagine the entertainment industry actually caring more abt talents than looks... that's prolly not gonna happen in this lifetime 😔😔 esp not in kpop.

Haven’t been in this site for a while so don’t know if this has been talked about or not.

After seeing Garam’s school id, i was wondering if schools in SK really photoshop their students id to this extent? Or is it just SOPA (a performing art school) in particular. The photoshop is so severe I couldn’t even believe that was Garam at first glance.

i'm pretty sure lots of schools in korea do that, not just SOPA. korean society is very particular with appearances so it's not rlly surprising. but it's still pretty jarring to know that it's very normalized.

i used to be so anxious about underarm hair, i'd shave every day and would freak out on holidays and stuff if i wasn't able to have perfectly smooth armpits. it took letting my armpit hair grow for me to realise it's just hair, it's not ugly or unnatural, it's the most normal thing in the world. it's so important to realise that idols are heavily edited and they go through a lot of procedures like laser hair removal to present a perfected image to us that isn't realistic to how anyone looks irl. I shave occasionally in the summer if i want to have that smooth feeling, but i think the most important thing is that i do it for me, not for how others perceive me. I'm also 30 tho, so there's a lot less social pressure to fit in and i'm allowed a lot more freedom of expression than i had when i was a teen.

same for me. i remember when we had to do rehearsals for our miss saigon school play. unfortunately, i happened to got cast as one of the bar girls so that meant i had to wear sleeveless, skimpy clothing. even worse is that i'd forgotten to shave my pits 💀 anyways it's been years since i last shaved them lmao (mainly bc i'm lazy) 🤣 yes, underarm hair is just as normal as the hair on our heads, and i always found it strange and pretty unfair that guys get to walk around with pits/legs/arms full of hair while us women are called unhygienic or dirty for not shaving them off.

btw, there's this song from evanescence named "everybody's fool," and even though it was released many years ago, it's as relevant as ever, and very much fits the whole "journey to perfection/attaining the perfect image" idols are forced to undergo. this part especially sticks out to me:

    Perfect by nature
    Icons of self indulgence
    Just what we all need
More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame don't you see me
You know you've got everybody fooled

    and this line too:

    No flaws when you're pretending

Not so much on the surgery topic but can anyone confirm if Korean/East Asian girls are just all so hairless with smooth skin? Do girl idols just shave to perform on stage??? I specially feel so insecure when I see how smooth their legs and armpits look. I always shave but it never ends up looking as smooth and pretty and there are always ingrown hairs and random dots and for this reason believe it or not I never wore a sleeveless top. I started laser hair removal and it's much better, idk if it will be just as smooth as idols' in later  sessions tho.

pretty sure they still have hair, but very fine hair it almost looks invisible. and i'm pretty sure female idols do hair waxing or the laser hair removal you mentioned (and prolly other skin treatments) . also, this may not be very relevant but i read somewhere that asian men tend to have a hard time growing facial hair like western men do. idk, speaking as an asian myself, our features tend to lean towards what ppl would perceive as "youthful" (softer/rounder features, shorter heights, less/finer hair, less robust/slimmer body build, etc.)

honestly she still looks gorgeous but this is so disheartening. once upon a time all you "needed" to debut was the standard nose job + double eyelid work (and occasional jaw shave if you were from sm), and if you got something else usually it was more down the line and when you were older. nowdays idols debut already having gotten so many procedures at such a young age and with their faces already full of fillers and botox from the get-go, not even giving them a chance to grow into their natural features. i just keep getting turned off from the industry more and more

def agree. i've mentioned this before but it just feels like surgery from before didn't look too much. but with each passing time, the standards just get worse and more intense. i've been seeing a lot of articles abt well known visuals looking like video game characters/cgi/anime, and that alone convinced me that looking like animated characters is the new standard in kpop.

i did some back-searching as i only stumbled upon the gifs - i was wrong, i don't think it's a fansite at all, but a newsite!

you can really see them looking unfiltered, probably because newsites aren't gonna waste money on editing how idols look. handsome but human!

there was also this fancams from a fansite called 147 company i found but they seem to be inactive now:

    handsome but human!

i think also recently there was a post done at a fashion show - Dior I think? I know BlackPink Jisoo and Suzy were in attendance - and on IG the show or a newsite posted photographs of everyone without filters and it was very refreshing. of course some ghouls were like "omg why are there lines on their faces" or visible skin texture. i can't find the post atm though

Edit: I found the post (please ignore that it's from the cesspool that is pann):

    https://www.pannchoa.com/2022/05/enter-talk-real-unedited-pictures-of.html

they're obviously all wearing makeup (and who knows maybe there's slight filtering going on) but everyone looks more real!

the fact that they are freaking out abt lines, which are normal and natural to see on most faces... their own beauty standards has brainwashed them and skewed their perception so badly.

Damn, thanks for your analysis. Honestly, not that I know much, I am only pre-med right now, but even if you forget the body image standpoint of undergoing multiple surgeries, what about the anesthesia's effect on their brains? All for which I have heard it can have many dangerous long-term effects on their health. It's crazy how some people could sacrifice their health like that. I had a minor surgery 4 years ago and istg I was sleepy for a week after it. The next week I went out with my friends and I was still so dizzy that I was falling down multiple times. How tf do idols do this????

and the fact that they have to go to work even if they haven't even fully recovered...

Honestly, it's wild to me how fast beauty standards change.

Like just a few years ago, idols would literally even try to CONCEAL their lips to make them look thinner, but now it's normalized for everyone and their mom to get lip fillers if they don't have naturally thicker lips. And these rapid changes aren't just limited to KPop or Asia, but even in the West. Big doe eyes used to be so hyped up, but now it's the siren/hazy eyes. Eyebrow trends went from pencil thin to bushy brows to feathered brows to straight brows to arched brows to whatever floats your boat brows. From body shapes, hair, skin, to bone structure – it keeps changing. But with this, thankfully, what falls under beautiful has also become more diverse these days.

Point is, there are SO MANY things that define "beautiful" in the present, and even with the many options we have, beauty standards are STILL changing. You never know which "flaw" you have today that will be considered ideal tomorrow. I am not saying don't get ps or any procedures at all, but if you want to be beautiful, be your own kind of beautiful. Don't just follow trends that come and go just as fast as they do with clothes, because that will be the exact reason why one would never be satisfied with what they have. We were never meant to look uniformly the same anyways, people need to get that what looks good on others might not look good on you. I would love for the day to come when each of these idols/celebrities and everyone else would realize this instead of trying to shift themselves to fit the bill. Like Hwasa said, create your own beauty standard – and who knows, the next trends might be based off you.

this needs to be plastered on the sky bc not a lot of ppl get this!!! 👍👍👍

Is it a hot take to say she looks just as good now as she did before? The korean standards' influence is very strong here, I won't lie, but her face is still very pretty, one of the visual standouts in this group for me personally. Hopefully she doesn't overfill it with time.

yeah, she still looks beautiful, but just like most of the procedures idols have gotten, the changes were unnecessary bc she was already rlly beautiful back then 😔😔

It's not just the snow app or tiktok videos (which you're right, does have a filter built-in for korean tiktok), but all the video content released by companies (HYBE is especially bad at this, I remember someone making a gif where the editors messed up and the idol moved and the filter literally glitched, exposing there was a filter in the first place), video content on many other platforms, music videos are filtered to smooth skin, etc. once you realise it, it's really noticeable. i thought it was so interesting how in some of TXT's comeback teasers for example, everyone's face is smooth and poreless and bright, but in the hands close-ups, their hands looked like a normal person's hands, i.e. texture, spots, pores, minor creases from movement, body hair, etc. the magic of filters.

yikes... it's rlly getting harder and harder to tell what's real from edited; it's almost catfishing. i also posted an example some pages ago of my bias in an interview, and i was able to catch a glimpse of the filter shifting 😩😩 next thing we know, we won't be able to fully use videos/video screenshots as source anymore (and i tend to use those as source for ps analysis a lot)...

Is it possible to develop double-eyelids naturally as you age?

Because Seulgi has like a line on her eyes, but its not visible on all photos only in some and she still has her monolids , and i dont know if she is getting double eyelids or if its because she is getting thinner or aging.

    Photos

i think it just depends on the angle or smth... idk how to explain it in simple terms tho, but i don't think she's developing double eyelids. some eyelids just behave like that.

  21. 1 hour ago, elseelseelse2 said:

Also kpop makeup is pretty heavy and there are a lot of filters and photo-editing that go on, it's so crazy how in so more "candid" fansite photos (like those that aren't ultra-touched up), you can see that they're quite visibly wearing thick makeup and sometimes even their skin texture, while everywhere else they're smooth as a little Ken doll.

It's especially noticeable with the monolidded idols because the stylists cake that eyeshadow and eyeliner on and when they take it off in some vlives or shows it's really apparent how much they wear during schedules. Not to say they're ugly without makeup (i personally find monolids/feline eyes very beautiful) but that most idols truthfully look like very attractive people, but not unearthly or inhuman ones.

isn't the snow app notorious for most of those infamous uncanny valley selfies? also (correct me if i'm wrong) apparently the korean tiktok has these filters already set; somebody compared it to american tiktok and the diff was noticeable.

and don't even get me started on the makeup, especially their stage makeup... 😵😵😵 these photos still haunt me...

I've been lurking on here for a little bit but I made an account to say that this thread has really helped me accept some of my natural features. I used to think about getting minor nose work or lip fillers although I was always hesitant out of fear of it would look worse. But I noticed on this thread that lots of these procedures were unnecessary and how idols probably didn't even realize how gorgeous they were without them. Of course I'm not stunningly gorgeous like idols are supposed to be but I've found myself being more okay with my face not being "perfect" because that's unrealistic and so-called "flaws" or deviations from the beauty standard can actually be what makes someone attractive/charming.

I also think it's good to talk about this stuff sometimes because a lot of stans praise idols for natural/effortless beauty and say things like they themselves look like a potato or ugly, but it's important to remember that idols would look very different if they led normal lives like most fans. And I couldn't say this on twitter without getting attacked or accused of being an anti. This paragraph is kinda off topic but yeah I just wanna say I am thankful for finding this thread because it has let me see how much idols get done and so it's really not fair to compare our beauty to theirs!

good to know that! we're happy for you! 😊😊

yes, i def agree idols would look more ordinary/less glamourized if they had led normal lives like us. it also reminds me of this one quote: you're not "ugly," you're just broke.

The post is from September 17, 2021 and he could had done more surgery in this time.

Also i agree than he sadly looks more plastic than human now, JYP ruined his face in my eyes 🤷‍♀️

when i first saw him in the god's menu mv, i thought he looked very unreal, like a video game character. i thought it was just makeup, but i guess his face has rlly gone thru quite a lot... in his earlier photos, he looked cute, but ODDINARY (sorry, couldn't resist 😂 i rlly meant to say ordinary). he's still recognizable, but he's a lot more enhanced and refined now.
