Miyeon, Soyeon and Minnie went to a Gucci event and Soyeon again looks so much different and Miyeon's face looks so stiff and a bit overfilled (lips)

    To me, at least

smth is def going on with the lower half of miyeon's face esp her lips and cheeks. as for soyeon... i rlly don't know why she had to get that chin implant 😔😔 but then again, considering all the bullying she endured for not fitting the standard way back before she even debuted...

  2. to everyone who took the time to participate in my little question and answer portion, thanks~ ☺️ it was fun reading them, including some of your insights/perspectives regarding your own looks. just goes to show how strict and restrictive the korean beauty standards can be that a lot of us would've been forced to go under the knife had we been idols, even for the littlest features on our face.

  3. kinda bored but feel free to participate or ignore this question: ...if any of you guys were idols, what procedures do you think the agencies would suggest to you? for me, they would most likely suggest these to me:

masseter botox (i have a wide jaw, and my facial shape is round), alarplasty, nose implant (my nose would be considered too wide and too flat for them lmao), chin implant (i have a short blunt chin), forehead implant (my forehead is short and flat), double eyelid surgery (my eyelids are uneven)

i'm curious to hear some of your answers 🙂

About the pollybeak thing, my natural nose is like that, it’s really tiny if you look at the front but on profile has a beak shape, I definitely don’t find appealing but knowing that it’s called a deformity … it’s something.

Also weird how hybe has that type of nose as a signature, like people pay to have this feature that I have naturally and I don’t like it.

Did you ever went through that ? Seeing people pay for a feature that you have naturally and you hate it but now somehow is desirable ?

yeah. i have thick lips and there are times when i do hate them bc it takes all of the attention from the rest of my face (which is why i don't upload selfies on social media too often 😅😅). it's jarring to see ppl with thin lips (who look good with them might i add) get fillers and inflate their lips like balloons 💀💀.

as for the pollybeak thing, if you're insecure abt the shape of your nose being called a deformity... don't worry abt it, it is a term used to describe noses that have gone thru rhinoplasty but then go thru changes in shape to resemble a beak; ideally, it's not supposed to happen to those noses. your natural nose, on the other hand, is not a deformity since you got it thru natural means (genetics) and not thru rhinoplasty complications and you were meant to have it

spacer.pngspacer.pngI strongly believe that she touched her nose, which is disappointing because her pre debut nose were unique and pretty. I guess she did a nose job but only for refining the tip of it and to get smaller nostrils, her bridge were already tall. She should never have  touched it.

did she get a new implant or is she experiencing pollybeak deformity? 😟😟

it really depends on how much work you’re doing with your teeth. i only had to wear them for about six months because i just needed to fix a little bit of crowding but it’ll probably take longer for you. i’ve never heard of it not working on buck teeth so you should be able to get them!

thanks for the insight! it's not rlly for me tho 😅 but i got curious bc my bias used to have buckteeth but the year after their teeth were already straight. their teeth still looked the same size and shape as before so i thought they might've gotten it straightened via invisalign since i'd never seen any old photo of them with braces. overall i was just curious if invisalign would be able to straighten buckteeth in just a year.

Was watching this yt short about kpop idols who are known for their “natural visuals” and a lot of the comments were naive as expected but this argument about Hyunjin baffles me the most

    qDZ4vsV.jpg

For context, this is what Hyunjin chin looks like with minimal makeup during a vlive:

i wonder if they will even realize that predebut and natural are not even synonymous anymore since most if not all idols get procedures at predebut already 💀💀 anyways, i don't even wanna lurk in the comments section of that video, i would just lose braincells having to read the overused "it's puberty!" or "it's just contour!" arguments for the umpteenth time.

edit: all those idols and surprisingly not even a single mention of shuhua, since it seems to be universally agreed on that she's natural. i couldn't help but wince the whole time while watching the vid. if by natural beauty they mean they were born naturally beautiful even before plastic surgery, then yeah, i would agree. but if they genuinely mean natural as in PS-free... then they are going to be in for a rude awakening once they learn more abt korea's strict beauty standards and the pressure for perfection

I was upset when I saw this specific photo:

    Q-dtEar7dUywHwNdsdWHGy09MEFetdP52lyq5Hse

Maybe she's one of those idols who look like they're uncomfortable when they smile but I've always assumed it's a result of botox injections? A whole ton of them?

    Another example:

    6OzkGGwVf3_xBlo6IsADTQ2spk1OwLIz4p9nVOPzBW1Kn17IJvW3jxDfMl-NVl-b0MU4_57FpiseXlqFZLn9ATUD.jpg?size=736x736&quality=96&type=album

Like, I don't really understand what about her smiling is so unsettling. Perhaps, that there's not wrinkling around eye area and her nose isn't scrunched up?

Also, the first picture was titled "Taeyeon's Million Dollar Smile" on TVDaily's website, and that's shady, at least with that unflattering picture underneath the headline.

yeah, it does seem her face takes on that "forced" or "restrained" look whenever she smiles. i see it all too often in faces that get too much botox or fillers, or those that just simply get botox/filler in areas that are known to scrunch or fold when making certain expressions.

i really hate how nobody wants to look human anymore.

i still can't believe this is the same person. if we're going to base on kpoprocedure's post, she got abt 7 procedures, with three of them noninvasive and temporary (fillers and botox), and the other four being eye surgeries and nose surgeries. she has underwent less procedures than a lot of idols (some of them have abt 10+ procedures), but somehow managed to look completely different, while the other idols with even more, i can see a slight resemblance at least. not sure if puberty may have contributed to it or it's just outright sorcery 😵😵

I am not sure if this has been discussed before but do you guys think Wonyoung got a corrective jaw surgery?

I was not a fan of iz-one and I didn't know her until she debuted with IVE so I have never really seen any pictures of her before IVE. Today I was checking some and I realised that her jaw used to be a lot more protuberant, almost like she had an underbite, specially when she smiled

    This is from 2018

      Reveal hidden contents

    176691_m.jpg

I haven't found a lot of pictures of her nowadays that are not edited but I don't think her jaw/smiles looks the same anymore:

      Reveal hidden contents

    220115-IVE-Wonyoung-documents-1.jpeg?v=4

It also seems like she had an asymetrical smile, and if it really was an underbite then I understand. I can't really pinpoint when she her face changed so I can't really say.

I got this procedure done some months ago and her previous smile looked a lot like my old one, that's why I thought about this if that makes sense. This is a medical intervention but if she really did this, she was maybe 16? Your face bones don't stop growing and developing until you are around 20yo, at least that is was I was told when I was diagnosed, and doing this procedure before that is really dangerous as your face will keep changing and it increases the risk of having to do a second surgery after some years. I wonder what doctor agreed to do this.

This can also be fixed with braces if it's not so severe, so maybe that's what happened.

    Any thoughts?

i would like to direct u to this ig post by kpoprocedure regarding wonyoung. apparently she's had some chin work done, botox to her masseter muscles (for the lower part of her face).

I mean I don't want to say that it is okay for a child to receive plastic surgery, everybody should get a chance to grow into their features, that I know from experience (when I got into Kpop I hated my big nose but now I am in my 20s and it looks way slimmer compared to when I was in my teens, and I wanted a nose job. Thank god they are expensive and not that common where I live). Honestly PS is just way more accepted and general in SK than anywhere else. It is so so common that kids get double eyelids surgery for their middle school graduation, so I can imagine how happy parents are when companies offer free PS to their underage kids. Truth be told, pretty privilege exists and it is way more apparent in SK. Also I wouldn't wish it on my kid to receive hate for being ugly, especially if you become an idol, netizens think you are asking to get criticized on anything you do, also they expect idols to be pretty, I have seen comments like "she is not pretty to be an idol" "she is so average looking" etc. I don't know if you remember, but around Itzy's debut Chaeryong's mum had to speak up to netizens to stop talking about how ugly her daughter is..which is really really sad in my opinion

yeah, i saw that too, and now chaeryeong ended up getting a few changes too from what i can see... i understand that they're rlly pressured to get ps, but at the same time, this toxic cycle will never end if they continue to bend to the will of the public/society. we honestly need more ppl with amber's mindset.

on a side note: i'm honestly glad i'm poor and afraid of surgery 😂😂 if i were an idol, no amount of hate and insults could ever sway me to get plastic surgery bc of how much i fear it (my parents are also vehemently anti-plastic surgery). also, i've kind of accepted that i'm average-looking/ugly; i found out that ppl can't hurt you with things you've already accepted. they can't use it against you anymore.

From some ex trainees' stories (If we can believe them), the company would suggest fixing certain features on a trainee's face (like with Akmu Suhyun she was suggested to have a nose job which she declined) and it's up to the trainee to agree or not, but generally they'd agree because the surgery fee is paid for by the company (if it's a mid tier and up one) and they're desperate to please management to debut. Not sure about parental consent but PS is so common in Korea they prolly don't care if it's just some double eyelid or minor nose job surgery (which LeeSeo had - still fucked up that she had ps at such a young age but the work she did wasn't that severe).

yeah but the thing is, leeseo had it mid-puberty, meaning her features weren't even done developing yet when she had, say, her nose job. i remember someone commenting here several pages ago that there's a chance that those who had ps early on, esp something like a nose job, would need to have one again (a revision) to correct it to suit the face bc puberty would've brought on a new wave of changes to their face.

i dislike her because she made plastic surgery videos regarding Amber Heard (and Johnny Depp)'s possible plastic surgery, because their faces are being splashed everywhere, because of a trial about defamation surrounding domestic violence. how little empathy does someone have to see a woman crying on the stand regarding being beaten and abused and think "i should make a video about her plastic surgery"? it is utterly tasteless and clearly designed to jump on the trend that videos regarding the trial (that has turned into a media circus of misinformation) garner thousands of views and adsense revenue.

    that's clout chasing.

...that's understandable. she's actually made videos of them way before the highly publicized trial, so the recent ones she uploaded were "updates," but i agree that she didn't rlly think that decision to upload those update videos, esp in light of the recent events, very thoroughly.

i have noticed that things in the 4th gen are changing in that fans seem to be much more open and vocal about plastic surgery, I think in part because 1) a lot of plastic surgery is more obvious nowadays, and 2) because the amount of content has increased, you're basically seeing idols' faces so often that changes become very obvious very quickly. Not to mention plastic surgery videos are trending to be more popular on multiple sites, with clout chasers jumping on it to talk about so and so being botched (Lori Hill) or to subtly or unsubtly sell you plastic surgery (that TikTok doctor is a menace). The veil has been lifted in a sense and people are much more aware of plastic surgery existing, even if they do not necessarily want to admit their faves have underwent it.

At the same time, this change has not come with greater compassion or kindness, it's taking place on places like Twitter or Tiktok that don't foster empathy - this thread too can be guilty of this as well  - and it's still often used as a drag against idols. People are becoming really bold in the things they say nowadays because hey, it's my ~quirky online persona and i can call idols ugly or talk about their nosejobs to their faces, they won't mind!

    be12b4639051963cd06dbf0f909578b25190c9d5836626814923ddc2d240739aff374705813ef4524a7b39f7d04e249a73717353f42514eceba05953

although i would understand why you don't like dr lee (sometimes he'd make comments abt female idols looking like bp members esp jennie which kinda does make me wince), not sure why you mentioned lorry hill in the list of "clout chasers who talk abt so and so being botched." if u think she's a clout chaser, fine. but so far in her videos, she's always tried to make sure to be respectful/empathetic in her wording and to always compliment any of the celebs she is talking and encourage her viewers to do the same, and i've never recalled her outright calling anyone "botched." i'd say she's a lot more respectful than any of us in this thread are.

regardless of what her real intentions are, i'm kinda glad her channel exists. i used to be one of those naïve/gullible fans who thought every idol was naturally gorgeous with little to no effort, and i would unintentionally compare myself to them; there was even a time i wanted a slimmer, contoured face, slimmer nose, smaller waist and thinner legs like female idols, until i found out what they had to do to achieve that look. her channel did a lot to help me realize that the glamorous celebs we are seeing were once ordinary looking ppl like us, and that in order to achieve their celeb look, they had to go through certain modifications.

seeing idols get work done at 14,15,16 is SOO sad. I think someone else already said this but they aren't letting their features even develop... I know for me I looked different at that age than I do now (I'm 19) and especially within the last year I've grown into my features. if they weren't in such a rush to change things about themselves and waited a few years instead, they might not have even needed anything (not that anyone needs anything to begin with, but they might not have felt the need to change something) I try to imagine myself at that age getting work done and I just know it would've messed me up so bad mentally, idk how they do it 😢

srsly performing surgery for cosmetic purposes or nonpractical reasons on a fucking MINOR should be illegal... i would understand if it is for health reasons (such as ptosis, bc it can affect eyesight), but cosmetic? hell no. that can practically fuck up a kid mentally and physically.

i rlly do not like those unnatural looking contacts idols are made to wear all the time 😐😐 kinda adds to the uncanniness... hyuna is one big example i can think of. they could at least give them contacts that won't make them look even more unreal than they already are, or just embrace their natural eye color. i find that a lot of them look better without colored contacts.

I think AKMU said that YG wanted them to do some surgery (after debut i belive it was but i could be wrong) but there said no. Do they really get kicked out for something like that? Also do the company needs to ask the parents first when the trainee/idol is underage?

Yeah there’s the saying “life caught up with them” and it’s so true for some late 20s-early 30s kpop idols who look so much older. More than any of the surgeries or fillers, it’s the years of sleep deprivation and terrible diet starting to catch up with them. And, according to some people who used to be in the industry, super heavy drinking. All of that, combined with excessive face modification, will definitely age you.

ETA: And all the stress can be added to that as well. Never underestimate how much stress can age you, and being a kpop idol is stressful from trainee days onward.

it's creates a never ending cycle: bad unhealthy habits age them, they start getting fillers/botox and other shit to reverse the aging process; however fillers and botox have a side effect of causing skin sagging and stretched skin, making them look even older, and they get more and more fillers/botox to combat the added aging, whilst drinking and smoking and dieting at the same time. rinse repeat till the industry eventually gets tired of them and they're thrown out like broken dolls. and they are left a shell of their former selves. it's a fucking psychological thriller movie playing out right before our very eyes — were lucky to only be the spectators, but they are living out that nightmare themselves.
