  1. @C.Y. Is there any way to message you privately? Looks like your profile is set to private I wanted to hear more about your insights on the whole fake baritone thing.
  2. I feel like a lot of the more skilled baritones like John Legend, Scott Hoying, etc. tend to all sound quite chesty and weighty. It’s hard to find baritones in mainstream music rn that have a brighter and more balanced sound, so ig it’s pretty difficult to compare in this case. They are all also a lot older than me, so their voices sound more mature. If you can find an example of a 21-23 year old lyric baritone that sings with a brighter and less weighty approach , I’d really appreciate it. Here’s a clip of my speaking voice btw:
  3. Oh okay I see. So in the first recording (I Won’t Give Up), I was actually phrasing a good amount of E4s at the top (even, some, we GOTta, no I won’t) along with C4s (stars they burn, lot to learn, etc.) while the Ds were more or less passing notes. I think you’re referring to Halo when you mention the Ds and F right? Also, in terms of lower range, I’ve been told that I support down to F#/G2. If you don’t really hear that though, it’s fine. My actual speaking range is around E2-B2 with F2-G#2 being a comfortable middle ground, which I feel is lower than what you’d hear from a lyric tenor. My instructor is actually someone you might know and he’s been pretty firm about me being a baritone ever since the allegations started coming up. Considering he is also a baritone, it’d be a bit weird if he misclassfied me after hearing and training basically every part of my voice for so long right? If it matters, I’m also not that old yet either. I hear voices are supposed to develop down to your late 20s while I’m still in my very early 20s, so maybe my voice might sound different later down the line. Ig it’s just been really confusing for me these past couple months bc I’m not really sure whose opinion I should be going with. Those two vocally knowledgeable friends who say that I’m a lyric tenor vs. my instructor, who’s heard basically my entire range and has worked with many other baritones, who says that I’m a lyric baritone. Sorry if this is getting a bit ranty. I really appreciate the input and will definitely take it into consideration! If possible, could you give me a rundown of the baritones you guys have reclassified as lyric tenors? I’ve been trying to look around the forum, but couldn’t really find a solid list.
  4. Hey guys, so I’ve actually been lurking here for a good bit and noticed that there’s a baritone vs tenor debate for a lot of vocalists previously classified as baritones. It’s got me wondering if I’m even actually a baritone. I’ve been taking lessons for about a year (maybe a lil more) and my instructor classified me as a lyric baritone, but a few of my vocally knowledgeable friends now think that I sound more like a lyric tenor (one says lower tenor). It’s pretty insane to think that I’m one or the other, as they’re so far apart in terms of passagi. I also get that voice types really don’t matter as much outside of classical, but it’s be nice to get some input from fellow vocal students. I’ll leave a link to my most recent material below. If possible, technique advice would be nice too ^^ Mainly mix ^ Lower range ^ Second clip is a bit pitchy oop
