you can’t expect everyone here to be knowledgeable about a word originating from the english language when many of us don’t even live in english-speaking countries. where i’m from, ‘queer’ is often used as an all-encompassing term, both because it’s newly-integrated and has no negative history but also cuz there aren’t really other terms in my native language that pertain to lgbt+ themes. not to mention that loads of lgbt+ events are called ‘queer festivals’ as someone else has already mentioned. personally i feel better calling someone queer if i don’t know their sexuality for certain and that is purely based on my own cultural context.

ok let me clarify this, because it happened when i was very much into stay twt. the fancaller was one of the most ‘notorious’ nsfw stay accounts, in the sense that they would be more extreme in their fanfic writing. their acc happened to be public and they would sometimes post pictures of themselves in lingerie. they never turned up on the fancall in lingerie, but fans just added that to exaggerate the drama. still, the fan was quite flirtatious in the call so i get why hanji is awkward. i don’t think it’s an indicator of any sexuality. wouldn’t anyone feel awkward at being called baby by someone you don’t even know?

bitching about vocals in kpop is the most unnecessary thing ever. who cares if your fave is more technically competent than someone else's fave? each idol's voice is autotuned, pitch-corrected and stabilised in each studio track (and new technology allows for pitch correction in real time. meaning idols' live performances can also be manipulated. oops). kpop as a genre relies on punchy instrumental tracks and strict rhythm. vocal ability is like the last thing that needs to be considered – the hooks need to be simple and catchy, not free space to flex vocal techniques. the idols are there to complement the music, not water it down. and to add from personal experience, i've worked several times as piano accompaniment to vocalists. in my experience, the best colleagues are the ones who cooperate with the other instrumentalists – as any professional musician does. the voice is as much of an instrument as any other. if i started playing scales on the piano out of nowhere it would overcrowd the song and then it wouldn't sound very good would it. in the same way, good vocalists don't flex their vibratos and improv over a song when there is no need to do so. tldr: who gives one if your idol is a triple s vocalist? this is pop music. the singers aren't here to make the song, they're here to sing their parts.
