CHERRY BULLET - CHERRY WISH (2022)

rating explanations

have i ever listened to cherry bullet in my life? of course i haven’t lol, i found their debut dreadful and decided not to interact with them ever again. i have however heard that they’ve been releasing some nice songs the past years so i will put my blind faith in them going into this

TRACK 1 : LOVE IN SPACE

definitely a powerful start to the album, sounds a little bit like a budget ‘la di da’ by everglow, but honestly that song goes hard so if you gotta draw inspiration from a song it should be that one. i love the little descending melodic phrase with the synth during the bridge, and in general the sounds used in this song are very interesting!! my only gripe is that the vocals are too high for my taste in this particular type of song but i promise you that in a few days i’ll be listening the shit out of this, so i’ll give it a solid 4.5/5 for now. it will become a 5 soon enough.

TRACK 2 : BROKEN

not the sound i expected with the title ‘broken’, so i was pleasantly surprised! i would have preferred a cruisier chorus and no obligatory rap breakdown but i guess you can’t have everything in the world can you. still a devoted effort for a b-side. 3/5

TRACK 3 : HICCUPS

i don’t really get this one. are they trying to emulate what secret in 2011 would have sounded if they were a 4th gen group? it begins as reggae-lite then the doowop vocals kick in and like… what??? i appreciate that the song structure is uncoventional but i wouldn’t listen to this song again. a bit too much fucking around. 2/5

TRACK 4 : KKA KKA

okay sure! i wasn’t sold until the chorus but i like the screechiness in this song. it’s not ‘coloring book’ or ‘mr. potter’ by any means, but i think the instrumental sounds are crisp enough to complement the screechiness and it all establishes a mood that is playful but not quite juvenile. 3.5/5

TRACK 5 : MY BOO

and what better way to end the album than with even more screechiness. there is definitely space in my heart for more ‘coloring book’-lites. they don’t go quite as hard with the marching band style to make this a total ear attack but they are surely putting in the work and i respect that. though i would have preferred a little less vocals because it gets pretty cluttered in the end – this song has more potential than ‘kka kka’ but that overcrowding brings it down to about the same level. 3.5/5

well i didn’t expect cherry bullet to knock my socks off but they absolutely did that! i guess i shouldn’t have snubbed them because of q&a, i now repent for that

summer lover is a banger ngl, but it is def outshined by paper heart. still, it has this very nostalgic and bitter vibe of a summer romance and i enjoy that very much. i think my least fav on the album is all night, i used to listen to it a lot back in the day but for retro kpop standards i think it's a bit half-baked, it's still a rly good song tho. idk how we nominate albums but getting the roundtable to agree that red light is in the top 3 kpop albums of all time would make me very happy

y'all i was recently watching some old snsd content and had a flashback to my childhood. so you guys are aware of the taengsic situation right? as far as i remember they didn't seem to have any interaction for at least two years straight, like they wouldn't even pose next to each other for photos. when i was young (talking middle school here) i always thought that they were secretly dating and i created this sorta fanfic in my mind that jessica only dated tyler kwon so she could repress her lesbian urges and would be fwb's with taeng on the side. i realised i was a lesbian myself a few months later. 

looking back at it now, of course it's super ridiculous and unfounded but somehow taengsic wormed itself into my coming out of age story and i had nowhere else to share this so here ya go lol. still think they should have been real tho

hdjdjfnnf i know i wasn’t the one quoted but i can give u the gist of things essentially in the first months after i-land and a little after debut heesun seemed super close on cam and they joked around a lot but all of a sudden in 2021 every interaction they had just stopped. their last selca together is from december 2020 and they did one live in august 2021 out of obligation and it’s been radio silence since then. it’s gotten to the point where they don’t even acknowledge one another and if they sit next to each other they refuse to even have eye contact. it’s sorta like a modern-day taengsic situation and it depresses me so much as a heesun ult that’s the abridged version of it lol
