but when i say jaywon is a real thing they say enhypen is the straightest group ever IJBOLL

jaywon is the quintessential enhypen ship, they've honestly turned fanservice into an art and i love that for them. but i think they're both het lol

It's also weird to me when people acknowledge that idols aren't always honest but act like an idol saying they are straight means they are, like there aren't a million reasons why they can't come out.
Of course idols can't come out, but you're forgetting that idols also can't really publicly date. That is amplified in the case of BTS, because of the absolutely insane fandom reaction. If you think about it, it would be more beneficial for Taehyung and Jennie not to reveal their (alleged) relationship at all, as it just implicates them into more drama. Nothing is gained from revealing a romantic relationship in kpop, so why would anyone lie about being in a het relationship? Especially considering how heteronormative Korea is in general, nobody suspects you of being gay if you're single lol

Sometimes is like that, but most time it is about who is a shipper/the right kind of gay group and anything about BTS
you know, it would be great if this thread actually focussed on its purpose and everyone stopped getting into unrelated arguments and/or complaining about the thread. how about we post actual gay content for a change?

Having a love and affinity for queer media, including obscure stuff, is often a sign of being LGBT. You may want to overlook that but it's true. I sought out all sorts of queer stuff. Even if you don't think Tae is queer, those aren't the actions of a homophobic person. I don't think you can now say that means nothing when all the BTS members aren't involved anyway. Same with other members and stuff they have said.
Also, as I have said before, some people are scared to speak out about things. It doesn't mean they don't care. Sometimes they won't, sometimes they will. People can clown me all they want. I don't think they are actually reading what I am writing. I'm not saying BTS are perfect angels who have never done anything wrong. I'm just saying that it's pretty clear that some people have decided that anything positive they say or do when it comes to human rights just be fake which isn't fair. It's not as simple as some people are making out.
Haven't you heard of the saying 'actions speak louder than words'? Jungkook and HYBE saw the massive cash opportunity of performing at the World Cup and took it. People are rightfully criticising them because BTS are UNICEF ambassadors and spoke at the White House, which whether you like it or not, establishes a political agenda, even if it is the faintest and most bare minimum of all. As said above,
19 hours ago, Dont mind me said:“everyone is equal” is a lovely statement but it is about the blandest, most centrist, populist run-of-the-mill statement you can make, all in support of institutions (the UN, White House, Biden admin) that benefited from the PR and optics that the BTS appearances gave them.
But even "everyone is equal" is a groundbreaking statement when you look at what is happening in Qatar! HYBE have exposed themselves, and BTS by extension since they're the 'ambassadors' so to speak, as massive hypocrites by agreeing to have their artist perform there. It doesn't matter if you think that Jungkook/BTS are good people at heart and disapprove of what's happening at Qatar, because the truth is, we'll never know if they think that. What we do know is that Jungkook is performing at an event at a country that is responsible for the deaths of innocent people and the quash of their fundamental human rights. And that is absolutely morally reprehensible, even in the context of the pitiful centrist political approach HYBE has chosen for BTS.

pls explain how recommending albums works here
cuz i have like loads of albums i wanna review

moving has been kicking my ass all week long but i’m slowly getting used to this! so might as well drop a quick review
GFRIEND - THE AWAKENING (2017)
rating explanations
Spoiler1/5 - unlistenable
2/5 - an effort was made
3/5 - i can see it!
4/5 - almost there…
5/5 - HOT DAMNTRACK 1 : HEAR THE WIND SING
the tropical trend was a total OVERKILL back in the day, but i like how this song expands it more than you would usually see in kpop. the violin riff gives me christian camp vibes… not too fond of that. but i like that the song has high energy all throughout! 3/5
TRACK 2 : FINGERTIP
ABSOLUTELY ON POINT. i remember ‘fingertip’ was such a shocker when it came out cuz gfriend had their wistful schoolgirl shtick going on at the time and nobody liked that they were diversifying, but ‘fingertip’ is such a distinct part of their discography and i can’t imagine myself snubbing it. the bass work is gorgeous and the brisk synth stabs and percussion constantly propel the song forward. it definitely opened the floor to a darker sound for gfriend, which i don’t think was exploited enough while they were active. 5/5
TRACK 3 : CONTRAIL
honestly this song sounds like it was extrapolated from a pokemon ost and that is definitely not a bad thing! i do however think that the usual kpop vocal melody doesn’t suit the 16-bit sounds, especially in the chorus. if they had gone with sparse vocals i think this song could have been better; it honestly sounds as if they were rushing to fill up bars with the vocals at times. the vocals and instrumental are great as standalones, but together they drag each other down, because they are both incredibly detailed. less is more and all. 3/5
TRACK 4 : PLEASE SAVE MY EARTH
i was hyped with the initial callback to infinite but i was sad to see that the instrumental was subdued in the rest of the song. if you wanna copy ‘back’, just go all out! this song lacks the punch it should have, and it’s all because the instrumental has been buried far down the mixing when it should be going at full force just like in ‘fingertip’. still is a pretty solid effort though! 3.5/5
TRACK 5 : RAIN IN THE SPRINGTIME
ugh, 2000s christian ballad… my least favourite genre in the world. to be fair though, if demi lovato had sung this in camp rock i would have been more sold on the movie itself. this song doesn’t stray out of the template it has chosen until the end of the second verse where we get the legato instrumentation but by then it’s too little too late imo. i appreciate that gfriend’s writers try to make everything gfriend style and expand as much as they can but christian ballad is just an inherently weak genre so i don’t think much of this song. 2.5/5
TRACK 6 : CRUSH
okay i like this!! it’s definitely reminiscent of gfriend’s bubblier title tracks. the instrumental and vocals have chemistry here, for a lack of better term, and it’s a punchy and fun outro to the album. i can’t say i prefer this to the legendary ‘glass bead’ and ‘me gustas tu’ but it’s a faithful addition to the gfriendcore genre and i appreciate it! 4/5
overall this mini was an effort i can appreciate. i can’t say there’s any song in this album that i would consider bad, they’re all pretty acceptable. however, nothing stands out as much as ‘fingertip’; and in general gfriend always pick out the best track as title track which is very wise (except in the case of ‘labyrinth’ but that’s another thing). the gfriend style is very distinct and a good template to follow but i always find that they shine most when they stray from it.

praying for you that enhypen stops trying to rap.....who even has the rap position in the group. i will guess jake because he seems generally "there" beyond speaking english. the other english speaker too
jakey from sunday mass becoming a rapper... lmao. yk your group's hiphop concept is doomed when their most hardass member is some guy whose twinkery could make daehwi cry. just go back to the vampire shit already goddamnnnnnn
RYANAIR UPDATE CORNER: ok i'm talking to some poor customer care guy, he's ghosting me a lil bit but i'm slowly getting to solving the problem

on the skincare topic: i have no idea if it's accessible anywhere in the world but this is the scrub i use and it's amazing

i mean, fair enough
i guess i just think music is only one aspect of what makes kpop good, like i love the musical output of all these groups, but i also need to find them to be good performers and to actually do concepts that are interesting and visually creative, to have good creative teams behind them. i actually don't care entirely about being able to sing/dance if you can put on a good show, but for me, Enhypen are also....not good at that. i do think their music is pretty decent (the hip hop stuff....not counted) but everything else about them is absolutely nothing to me (in general, i feel that way about most HYBE groups. all that money just smoothens personality away in what they make). but i'm glad they bring you so much joy!
snuper!!! i miss them, at least Sebin joined Omega X (whom i'm sure you hate dsfsdfsdf, because if i really like them....)
well. we both like f(x) and jaejoong?
i mean everyone looks for different things. for example, i personally don't have an eye for visuals so i can't really appreciate that ykwim? power to you for wanting the full package!
Spoiler(nobody acknowledges the hiphop stuff in this house... nobody.)
funnily enough sebin was my bias in snuper for a hot minute before i realised i love twinks and sangho replaced him. and omega x... yes i would rather not comment

fine, the MC for W1ngdom can be some random guy who was on the show....Jaehan from Omega X because i luv him
actually, there were 4 members of Wanna One who could sing (Sungwoon, Jaehwan, Minhyun and Ong). most of them have good stage presence and Nu'est and CIX are very balanced groups with interesting concepts that are well-integrated into performance and fashion, and excellent stage chemistry and presence. i will grant that some of them can be shaky (Ong, Daniel) but they make good music. Wanna One itself was a pretty boring group but most of them went on to do much more interesting stuff.
X1 was also a pretty boring group but Victon has a solid main vocalist in Seungsik, Seungwoo himself isn't that bad, and they're a phenomenal group of performers with really good concepts. Woodz is fucking Woodz!! Wei has Seokhwa who can sing, Donghan and Yohan who can support, and they're good too on stage. Bae173 and Mirae are also good performers (mirae has 2 good vocalists too) and make the most of their budget. Wooseok....does his best lmao Up10tion is actually a really interesting group though. some of their choreos are fucking amazing and inspired. i will grant Cravity, Drippin, and Younite are very boring but....
also nugu isn't an insult, it only reflects a lack of perspective to only care about achievement
i mean, i think it's great that these guys are talented and nuanced and interesting and all but i genuinely dislike the musical output of all of these people lol. woodz has some nice songs but everything else from nu'est to the last mirae bside i just find uninteresting
ion care about enhypen being untalented but i do care that i like their songs – the visuals and the drama are just a pleasant bonus, honest
and ofc nugu isn't an insult, the best kpop boy group of all time never got over 2mil views on one mv
Spoilerissokay tho, i'm sure one day we'll agree on something
-
@nana_moonok so why are you in the us and not in mnet hq organising some spicy survival shows?
but i'm not allowing lai kuanlin to enter the w1ngdom, he can stay in his HOUSE where he BELONGS
but you can't dunk on me for liking enhypen when you literally stan wanna one, x1 and their nugu spin-offs
nobody out there voted them for their... talents ahem
