Tzuyu was insanely popular in 2016, probably only 2nd to Suzy in terms of popularity as a rookie, and people were talking about her (and by extension, Twice) a lot on TV. I think it would have been a pretty big hit to Twice to drop her.

Not really, that's reading too much into what she said, it was more of a dig at the other members. Likelihood is they were already broken up by that point, the news for the starts and ends of relationships is always late

Tzuyu has been under promoted but she was crazy popular in 2016, she was being talked about everywhere and finished #3 on the Gallup idol poll. Tzuyu is probably only behind Suzy in terms of public recognition as a rookie. While she's not as popular now in Korea as she was then, I think her reputation has stuck. She gets name dropped on dramas and variety, and there's the "this new visual looks like Tzuyu" media play that happens so often.
