Sorry for the spam lol but I’m looking back at Aespa’s debut with my friend and I’m surprised remembering the “warm” reception they received in Youtube when they already showed p solid things 0:11 Ning was doing just fine with those phrased B4’s and Winter just came in with a nice supported B4 lol 0:21 her approach there already screamed average she’s not even doing too bad on those phrased C5’s in the end. 0:58 Giselle was just singing through her nose I guess 1:09 phrased B4’s from Winter were alright (nitpicky on the first one tho) 1:20 one B4 from Ning sounded a bit shouty to me but her phrased C5’s already carried support. It just went downhill for both of them in the bridge lol Winter’s rather throaty and not really mantaining good breath support even on the A4, Ning had some support but it wasn’t as refined, not a fan of her A4’s and obv the famous B4 note happened. I’m assuming it’s bcs they wanted to sound tired. Still I don’t get why the word that got around about them at first was that Ning only has A4/Bb4 and Winter is shallow the majority of them didn’t even bother to fact check

Doesn’t seem to be much relevant seeing the candidates but what’s like the general ranking for 4th gen gg lead vocals? I guess Winter is the strongest followed by Soeun and Jihan wasn’t too bad, I heard someone mention the lead vocal from Pink Fantasy has around G#4/A4 and Gyuri from Fromis9 around Joy level, Dita from SN also has some shallow support I think some of the G4’s didn’t sound too bad on shallow standards

I think Karina has an A4/Bb4ish note at her knowing bros performance @ 0:08 I hear tension but it doesn’t sound too bad meh idk it’s too brief, she has another Bb4 in Forever but it was pushed 3:17 Also I’d like to ask what app do you guys use to identify notes? gosh sorry for the spam

Ariana Grande is an A-AA right? Many people say she only has Bb4/B4 but her C5’s sound alright Phrased C5 at 0:17 & sustained 0:36 plus a couple others

I wanna ask though does Winter really supports her B4’s? because people keep telling me otherwise and I think there’s sort of a lesser presence when compared to her Bb4’s? Please correct me if I’m wrong

Well I mean you can consider it as shallow support the requirements for it isn’t really that much @ 1:30 There is some engagement upto around A4 but it’s very minimal… tonality is just quite lacking as well so it’s nothing to really put much value on if you ask me 1:06 & 2:46 Yeah the connection really isn’t solid, there is some breath support ig…? but it’s still arguable as well that those are just relaxed notes to be honest she’s rather unstable too. There’s no really “proper” engagement going around. I’m not sure if she’s even around Krystal’s level who was borderline weak to average by the blog so I personally disagree with placing her on that tier, her lows can be alright but her grasp on support in general is still quite lacking.

Speaking of her can we discuss Goeun from Purple Kiss? I heard she has Bb4/B4 and she does have some B4’s here and there but it seems to be very inconsistent? In studio version the B4 at 3:03 is supported but it’s quite tight here. She doesn’t seem to be doing better with the other B4’s (0:50, 2:16 more plausible one ig, 2:40) Some B4’s at 1:00 but p tight also girl really pushed her limits at @2:40 Another session but tight as well 1:04 2:26 B4 1:45 and 2:00~2:10 too pushed imo 2:23~2:29 tight as well 2:49 is this a Bb4?

Miyeon has some support upto G#4 sometimes A4 and Yuqi has a more “present” support than Minnie from what I recall

Is that channel a bit JYP biased? I saw them yap a lot on how Lia has moments of full support on her very early range (like below F#4 lol) and how Jihyo’s tight C5’s carried full support but at the same time kept saying that NingNing and Winter are often shallow…. they claimed Ning’s C5’s in that radio show as one and also Winter on her first verse of Forever like why focus on that when she did a whole ass open Bb4 belt in the same song lol

Not him ranking miss tongue tension higher than Hwasa in terms of belting… some of his other vids are rather alright so I’m quite surprised he didn’t notice the gap. Also who do you guys think has the stronger mixed register between Jeongyeon and Seulgi? Jeongyeon has less problems w tongue tension ig and her placement when phrasing upto C5/C#5 is nice but her sustained notes starting from around Bb4 tends to get shallow, nasal, tight and pushy. Oh and I heard Christina Aguilera is a Mezzo is that true? If so I guess if she supports upto A4 she’s still Average since that’s basically a Bb4/B4 iirc.

Maybe her nasality and lack of stronger belts makes her pale in comparison to other a-aa sopranos? she’s still capable of supporting upto C#5 though and her lower range is pretty nice or is that still not enough to warrant her an a-aa tier?

Karina’s support sounded pretty nice here 1:19 her F4 was a bit better than Ning’s imo 2:41

Aespa is quite vocally balanced sheesh as a group would you all say they average higher than Red Velvet and F(x)?

I know this thread isn’t really too keen on resonance but can these notes from Winter be referred to as the placement that is most often mentioned as being resonant by the blog? 4:22 2:00 1:39 are these close to being “resonant” or am I just hearing things?
