I know we discussed this a little while back but I'm starting to worry that Taehyun's "growling"/weird throatiness is going to stick around for a while? He's doing it in this cover as well (2:14, 2:49): It's clearly a stylistic choice but it honestly sounds like it could be really damaging to me. Where are Hybe's vocal coaches???

I know I quoted a lot of people (sorry about that) but I just wanted to cover all my bases. Okay: 1). Nayeon has a mandible angle. I want to make this really clear because I saw some comments saying she didn't. She does. It's fairly weak and often hidden under softer facial flesh or draw over with contour but it's there. Here are some pics where you can clearly see it: This by itself doesn't mean Nayeon didn't have a jaw shave. What is does mean though is we can't go around claiming she definitely had one without further evidence on account that "her jaw is smooth." 2). What you guys are seeing in this clip isn't her jawbone. Her jawbone has never been that prominent from this angle. This here is a line of contour: Some stylists really like just drawing straight lines are their idols jaws to make them seem narrower, which, if the mandible is already weak, can effectively camouflage it and give the illusion that the jaw goes straight up to the ear, even when it doesn't. (Sungchan is another example of this.) Nayeon's jaw is frequently contoured and has been for years: This is her actual jaw bone: 3). Her jaw recently looks the same as ever and no different from how it looked even predebut: It's just at this angle and with this head position, the mandible angle is less visible than if she was tilting her head up or away from the camera and stretching the skin over the bone. My advice for anyone who's trying to detect a jaw shave is find the bone first. A jaw shave literally shaves the bone, so if there isn't a visible change in the bone, then there probably wasn't a jaw shave. I'd also mention that jaw shaves should be visible from the front. That's the whole point of them. So if someone's lower face doesn't look narrower than before, I think it's also unlikely that they had a jaw shave. As for the "mandible angle being nonexistent/the jaw going straight up to the ear thing" that definitely exits and is likely the sign of a jaw shave. However, you have to make sure what you're seeing is actually the jaw bone. That it's the jawbone that goes straight up to the ear, not that the mandible angle is hidden under skin or makeup.- 26,521 replies

I see what you mean for his tip but I think that may be do to his mouth position? The tip pulls down for a lot of people when they smile. I'm honestly not sure. I do agree for Miyeon's jaw. She's stunning but I just think that procedure was so unnecessary.- 26,521 replies

They do have very similar noses (I think they're both gotten a lot of praise for their noses because they are considered very ideal in Korea). I'm pretty sure Hyunjae's nose is natural: For the front view: I've seen some speculation on this thread that he may have gotten nose fillers in the last year or so. I wouldn't be too surprised by that by if he did, it was quite subtle. For Miyeon, I wouldn't be that surprised if her nose was natural too. Like you said, she lacks predebuts. This is really all there is from before she was a trainee and honestly, she's too young in the here to really say (the angles also don't match up). The nose doesn't really fully develop until adolescence: I will say, if she did her nose, it was before she did her jaw, because she still has her original jaw in this video from when she was a trainee but her nose is the same as the one she has now: Also, I doubt there's an implant of any sort in her nose. Her bridge is too irregular. There's a slight dorsal hump: Implants create a perfectly straight bridge. If she did raise her bridge somehow, my bet is it would have to have been done with fillers.- 26,521 replies

These are press photos. If anything is not going to be photoshopped, it's them. (Stuff from the company and the idol themselves is the most likely to be photoshopped ie selfies, photoshoots, teasers etc). I have seen videos of him. I used to be a TXT stan and a Beomgyu stan specifically. I know what his nose looks like in motion and it looks pretty much the same as it does in those photos. Anyway, if you don't want to believe he has any work done, that's fine. I'm not trying to make you believe something you won't. I don't want to fight over this so if you could please not quote me and just let this drop I would really appreciate that. Thanks.- 26,521 replies

He looks quite similar to his predebuts, but I wouldn't say identical. There are still some subtle differences. Subtle enough that you really need to put two pics taken at the similar angles side by side to see the difference: I think it's pretty clear he's had his nose done. His nose seems both narrower and more defined through the tip, and higher through the bridge. He also naturally had double eyelids, but they look more prominent these days, leading me to think he may have had them deepened. His eye corners look the same and so does his jaw/chin, lips, etc. His eyes and nose seem to be the only changes, and even then, they're fairly subtle and most likely would pass as natural to the untrained eye. (He also had a mole by the corner of his mouth which seems to have disappeared so he may have had that removed). He still looks like his predebut self, just slightly more refined, and in my opinion, I think that's the way PS should be (even though I think his work was overall pretty unnecessary). As for childhood/baby photos, those really aren't a reliable source. Babies naturally have bigger eyes, smaller noses, no clear jawline, etc which makes any differences near impossible to see. It's better to compare photos from adolescence when the face is pretty much done growing.- 26,521 replies

Hi! I'm not trying to be rude but I honestly find it a little strange that you would have this information? Companies REALLY don't want any of this stuff to get leaked and they must take extreme measures to prevent that from happening. Otherwise, a bunch of idols PS would have gotten out in the past. If your close friend's sister really worked with TXT she would most likely be made to sign agreements not to disclose any of their PS information, not to mention the fact that in many countries it's illegal to share someone's medical history (including any PS) if you have first hand knowledge of it. I also find it hard to believe that Beomgyu's and Yeonjun's noses, and Yeonjun's lips are natural. The rest of this I could buy. Honestly, and I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, but if you didn't get this information from someone in connection with TXT, please just speculate like the rest of us. If you did, well, then I don't think it's information you should be sharing.- 26,521 replies

I've watched some of his videos and yeah... I agree. I think he's said he doesn't believe in support and then later said The Boyz's New was "nice and supported" through his mid to low range which is a stretch at best. I think he also claimed a bunch of girls in Loona were mezzos/altos? And that Jisoo was almost on par with Rosé and will surpass her fairly soon? Yeah, no. He also ranked Haechan above Jaehyun, Hyungsik (who he swears is a baritone and he can't understand why he belts like a tenor lol) over Changsub, and Key over Taemin if I remember correctly

I think Jaemin’s done his nose and he also may have had his double eyelid creases deepened. Recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s experimenting with fillers. His face looks a little fuller than usual.- 26,521 replies

I think he’s also had his inner corners cut. Though his lips have always been full, I think he has done some fillers to them recently just because they’ve been looking even bigger than before. I honestly don’t really get why people say he’s had a ton of work done? Chin implant and epicanthoplasty are the only invasive procedures that I can pin point on him and that I’ve seen discussed on this thread, but maybe I’m missing something.- 26,521 replies

The thing is Yeonjun never really was a good fit with Korean beauty standards. His appeal was more in being unique-looking (the monolids I saw mentioned before) and having this kind of playful charisma to him (as well as being a great performer and an all-rounder). TXT have members who fit the standards to a T so I don't really see why BH would try to make Yeonjun into something he's not when they already have those members. Yeonjun actually doesn't fit the standards much more now than he did at around debut with his initial work (which I thought was quite well done overall). Instead, I think that recently he's really lost some of that light in his eyes. He looks unhealthy to me (probably partially the extreme weight loss) and I'm honestly worried about him. My guess, and I could be wrong, is that he's the one choosing to have work done, at least in the most part. He was very popular with the features he had at debut, and as I said before, is never going to be the perfect kpop visual like Jaejoong or Heechul. His appeal really draws from his charisma. I don't follow TXT now (I did around debut) but I've seen a clip or two about Yeonjun talking about how he wants to lose weight. I think that shows that the choice to lose, at least, comes mostly from him. He's seems to not be satisfied with his body so I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to guess he's not satisfied with his face either, which is why he's getting all this work done. If this is the case, it's honestly extremely worrying, and I'm not in a position to diagnose anybody, but the signs point towards him possibly having some sort of dysmorphia. My hope is that maybe he can receive support and improve his mental health and his relationship with his body (if that really is an issue). He's such a talented performer and so charismatic both on and off stage. I really hope he can get some of that light in his eyes back.- 26,521 replies

I think that, for what it's worth, he hasn't touched his mandible angle. It doesn't look shorter to me: My guess is the change in his face-width comes from flesh rather than bone. Either just weight loss or weight loss and fat removal. It also looks like his chin is further projected forward. My guess is this change is either from a chin implant or maybe chin fillers: I'm with everyone on the recent nose work. It's pretty clear that his bridge was raised in the comparison above. I think though, that he may have already had some nose work done before that. His nose before joining BH seemed to have a lower bridge and be wider than his nose circa 2019: The last thing I'm going to say may sound a little crazy because this procedure isn't common in the kpop industry, but I think Yeonjun may have had a lip lift. Sometime around Run Away era judging by these pics: Yes, I think he gets lip fillers as well, but his cupid's bow literally seems pulled upwards, and, as far as I know, lip fillers don't do that. As for his eyes, I'm honestly not sure: Predebut: 2016: Now:- 26,521 replies

I think @C.Y. said a little while ago that T.O.P was a baritone.
-
I think former Vixx Hongbin may have been an actual baritone? Chanyeol as well, though I could be totally wrong. There are a couple of other guys I have as question marks but they’re mostly really underdeveloped so I’m honestly not sure. (Not to say Hongbin and Chanyeol are particularly developed. Certainly Hongbin isn't.)
-
Yeah calling it growling might have been a little generous...
-
I hear pretty much no technical foundation and that kind of scares me. They're purely stylistic but without any proper technique underneath to fall back on. It's almost like they're going for sort of a western indie niche vocally? Yeonjun and Taehyun especially, not to mention Huening Kai with the whole "Shawn Mendes" approach. The Beomgyu-JYP sub vocalist comparison is on point but at least he isn't putting as much pressure on his vocal cords. Honestly, I'm worried for their voices as well. I feel the key their songs are written in is too difficult to sing the way they do and not damage their voices.
-
Omg mine too. I actually had a heart when Taehyun came out with that "I know I love you" growl. I was NOT expecting that. I feel bad for his vocal cords. The nasality is still going strong as well. Also is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they can barely hear Beomgyu? He sounds so faint to me but maybe that's because he sings with so much breath? My mind went straight to Boy in luv too lmao.
-
My thoughts exactly :(
-
Apparently Taehyun growls now??? (0:11, 0:58. 1:58, 2:11, 2:50).

I'm with you on the nose job thing. I personally don't see one either and I looked at many, many pictures to compare, trying to find a difference. I think a slight alarplasty is possible but I'm more inclined to believe his nose is natural. As for his eyelids, I actually don't see double eyelid surgery. The thing is that his eyelids are inner. So basically, when his eyes are wide open and he's looking straight ahead there's no visible crease; the crease is hidden. When he's looking down or his eyes are partially closed the crease becomes visible. When the angles are matched and his eyes are equally open, the eyelid crease looks pretty much the same.- 26,521 replies

at least they used his voice efficiently LOL No lol Yunho is Un-Hoe he's was never meant to be a singer SM just run with the 5 guys Accapella group publicity ( you know their story and how those 5 were called at the last minute right? ) I'm not too surprised but would that make TVXQ (the duo) one of the weaker if not the weakest SM group vocally?
-
I do have to give him this: his scream serves as a very effective transition in Rising Sun haha. Also - is Yunho technically stronger than Changmin?
-
Oh haha I wasn't angry at all. It's just something I'm passionate about. Guess I came off to strong. Anyway, musicianship is something I value personally but I probably should have said that's a more important part of being an overall "artist" than a vocalist. Musicality was probably what I should have said. Oh well. I appreciate the Aespa meme tho lmao Edit: I totally misunderstood your comment. Sorry about that and thank you : )
-
I was saying that supported range means more than overall range which I think we can pretty much all agree on. You can have an extensive range but that doesn't make you a good singer if you don't know how to use it. There's this common misconception that wide range=good singer and narrow range=bad singer. Range, to a large degree, is something you're born with, while supported range is something you work to develop. It really bothers me when people who know next to nothing about singing claim Taeyeon is "over-hyped" or even, can you believe it, "weak" because she's only showcased about 2.5 octaves of vocal range without taking into account the quality of her vocal production and the years of work she's put into it. That being said, in my book, supported range isn't the only thing that determines a singer's prowess. I think musicality, consistency, and knowing their voice, basically being a "smart" vocalist, are also very important. You can have a supported range wide enough to be considered "average," "above average," "proficient," whatever but if you constantly sing out of your range you'll damage your voice just as much as someone who doesn't support at all and strains throughout. (Which is part of why I would like this male idols mixing in the 5th octave trend to die). The "easier" singing is the better, which is why support is so important. Support makes singing "easier" by taking some of the pressure off the vocal chords themselves. The stronger the support, the greater the effect. Of course, the "ranking" system is flawed and quality of support should also be taken into account, not just how wide your supported range is, hence Krystal, Taeil vs Doyoung, so on. Consistency is another thing that I find really important, and though I won't get into it too much here, I think there are a lot of singers who, on one day, can sound strong and fairly supported, and the next be weak, shallow, and breathy. I get that people have good days and bad days (I know I have them) but a lot of times this inconsistency strikes me as a lack of effort/investment in actually singing properly. Overall, I would honestly prefer a vocalist who, though maybe isn't the strongest in the world, is consistent. Someone I know is going to show up and deliver, even if they aren't going to blow my mind. Anyway, that's just my two cents on the matter. I think supported range is important but a lot of other factors matter as well.
