wow this thread used to be so active i could barely keep up...thought i'd post since i rarely do and this was an unexpected procedure i thought i'd never see
oh my girl's yubin got her lips plumped! im a stan and i closely monitor the group's every schedule and activity so i immediately noticed.
it doesnt help that her 2 fansites edit the hell out of her face but, the first (from left to right) was 230512 and the second was 230516, then the third/last was on 230527. i noticed immediately on that second day, and every fanpic thereafter, her lips and lower half of her face looked really diff. mind you, i look at omgeol everyday!
and when i saw that her fillers were noticeable in the comeback teaser's then it lowkey revealed when they started shooting those pics lol since i could date them based on yubin's fansite pics and appearances
an unedited iphone fanpic from 230711:
and here are side by sides of her in 2023 before may vs during may-now:
(left = pre may; right = may onward)
----------
more pics post filler in spoiler in case you still wanna see how she looks recently:
i cant help but assume that the frequent use of filler by yooa and mimi (and minor use by arin) may have eased yubin into making the decision since (as far as i know) yubin has never gotten anything but praise for her visual since debut! especially in the past two years when she grew out her bangs and let go of the bob, she's been blooming visually!
but in terms of like the "why?" since she def didnt need it and wasn't really ever talked down for her visuals, i feel like she may have just wanted a change for the comeback! (which btw it still boggles me how idols can be like "ooh lets change my "look" surgically (or non surgically, just speaking in general here) for this promotion period!" nothing wrong since its their body, im just saying its crazy that that's an option for us humans to do~)
people also often say she resembles seventeen's joshua!
as a stan, im aware that yubin's has been one of, if not THE LEAST, popular member of oh my girl, at least in terms of hype, popularity, followers, articles, etc. but since this year, and especially these past couple of weeks, she has been getting so much praise for her visuals on twitter and for like the first time, the likes for HER teaser pics for the comeback surpassed arin and yooa's (the group's most popular members, esp on twitter). so im sure she is loving the attention and i think she is happy with the change which is great!
i can tell she has been a bit more confident too with the amount of posts, tiktoks, and selfies with her lips being a focal point lol:
anyway, i sometimes feel like i cant express myself well in words so to reiterate: this isnt a hate post. i love my girl! just was so shocked to see this change since she is the last idol i expect to touch anything bc she looks practically flawless imo. tbh it was a bit jarring when i first was seeing it in may but like most idol's visual changes, i got used to it and think it actually looks not too bad on her!
curious to hear your thoughts! and i had a lot of fun making this long post lmao. reminded me of the old days of lurking on onehallyu back in 2016~
Happy to see you posting and reviving this thread! I used to be so active here myself but now there's hardly much to keep up with. I started liking Yubin two years ago and have only been keeping up with her then. She looked so happy and confident at Waterbomb but I had no idea about the lip fillers! Thanks for sharing and being so compassionate about it all.

What’s also creepy to me is that Lia said that the members and staff had to tell Yuna off from posting pictures with her abdomen out or photos that were too suggestive when she was 16-17. And they laughed it off but I didn’t find it funny tbh.
Then there was a time where she went on and on about how she knows people think she has a warm and cute image (duh, you were underage girl lol) but that she wants a cold and sexy image. She said this many times in lives. And it made me so uncomfortable because for the first time JYPE is not sexualising a minor as visual. But she is insisting on it.
This industry is really messing up these girl’s brains. I just have a feeling that it will go down hill once she gets even older.
this tiktok made me really confused because i was like why is she acting like this during a buzzfeed game https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS82xrgtk

they don't look that voluminous tbh. and her lip liner literally extends all the way to her mouth corners (almost looks like she ate some sort of tomato soup and got stains...) her lower lip also has obvious lip liner in the middle part of her lip outline (lip liner done that way typically makes the lips more round and "full" looking, instead of lining all the way around. it brings them forward almost)
anyways they don't look plumper per se and are clearly overlined. idk if it's filler.
I see the makeup you pointed out! But her lips also look stiff in the photos, like she's having difficulty closing them. You can see in the last pic that one side is lifted higher. Her lips don't look that voluminous, but they don't have to be completely inflated to be fillers. They still look more plump than they do in past press photos:

vs
I didn't watch her previous dramas and didn't notice any lip fillers. Does anyone have pics of those?

Looks like Seohyun got lip fillers for the upcoming SNSD comeback
Spoiler

She definitely could've gone without them, considering how her lips were never thin.
But I'm just kind of fascinated to see someone who's been in the industry for so long, and whose face hardly changed, with a slightly different feature. I think it'll look better once it settles in more!

Not Minhyuk exposing Yujin's eye surgery lol
Eyyyy I mean you could say that about literally any idol that posts predebut pics with others. But I'm just here to say I think Yujin has one of the most refreshing faces in the industry rn. Yea she's had her eyes done (and they overloaded her with filters during GP999, dear god) + poses weird in photos, but she hasn't seemed to have touched much else since.
I love looking at her! She's 9 years older than Kep1er's maknae (not that 25's old) but they both look equally youthful.

one idol who is known/assumed to be 'natural' if possible. if i guess i think she has maybe done eye work(??) i've heard it's possible to develop double eyelids naturally i don't know the validity of that.
she kept her unique features nose and small lips. lips debatable but i think it's makeup. she also dropped a lot of weight somewhat gradually starting 2016-2017 now her cheekbones get more and more pronounced. her head is tiny, her waist is tiny sort of like her groupmate yooa.
It's absolutely possible! My cousins and mother both have had that happen to them. My cousins had to wear eyelid tape every day and their skin 'adjusted' or whatever, but my mother's developed naturally. See this Soompi thread for more cases!
What's not possible—and I feel like this is discussed a lot less—is both double eyelids appearing at the exact same time. Like how hair grows at different speeds, eyelids cam appear at different times too. Even more sus if the eyelids are perfectly even.
(Also, not related but I suspect more idols have aegyo-ssal fillers than we think. Aegyo-ssal isn't completely symmetrical either, and there's only so much some glittery make-up can do.)

I was upset when I saw this specific photo:
Maybe she's one of those idols who look like they're uncomfortable when they smile but I've always assumed it's a result of botox injections? A whole ton of them?
Another example:
Like, I don't really understand what about her smiling is so unsettling. Perhaps, that there's not wrinkling around eye area and her nose isn't scrunched up?
Also, the first picture was titled "Taeyeon's Million Dollar Smile" on TVDaily's website, and that's shady, at least with that unflattering picture underneath the headline.
This makes me so sad... Taeyeon used to have one of my favourite smiles in SNSD, nose scrunch and all, up till like 2 years ago.
Her veneers were always a little too big but they fit her face and L-shaped jaw back then
Note: Holy shit i forgot how to use forums, just open the spoiler link for photos and videos lol
To be fair, she does look less odd in motion (that day and in general)

I knew the Aespa girls had a LOT of foundation on, but it was hard to realise when the 4 of them are always standing there together. These photos, presumably taken in the same location with the same camera, SHOCKED me
Their faces are SO much lighter than the rest of their bodies... they're even paler than Taeyeon who's known for being the fairest in SNSD.

Veneers really sound like a horrid and expensive idea. Why not get braces for a couple years instead??

I'm here for the Arin double eyelid discussion! I don't know if she's had other procedures to widen the eyes, but right off the bat I notice the 'hidden' double eyelid. And I wanted to say: don't underestimate the power of a double eyelid, even a hidden one! They can really help the open the eyes and just give them some extra size and dimension. I saw someone on this thread say that's why double eyelid surgeries are so common — they're subtle, but giving your eyes that eyelid just helps a lot.
I'll highlight this example with some photos of my friend (with her permission):
SpoilerNo double eyelids
Double eyelid on left eye
Right off the bat you can see that the right eye just.. looks bigger and rounder (idk the exact terminology but you get my point) than the eye with the single eyelid. The eyelashes are also more obvious.
As a bonus, here's a screenshot off of Zoom
It's a subtle difference, but even with the low quality, you can tell which eye has the eyelid.

well it sounded exactly like "she does it every 6 months" or smth
also where tf is her cheekbone reduction. her cheekbones are so prominent, i would love it if she reduced them. if some people here can speculate using edited pics or without knowing how makeup/lighting works (clown emoji won't change the fact that this absolutely happened a lot in this thread lol) than i can throw in some personality traits
I'm a SONE who's been following Taeyeon since 2011 (so about 10 years now). Obviously the people comparing her current 32-year-old self in 2021 to her 19-year-old Gee era self in 2009 are going to be in for a shock, because ageing and makeup and styling do dramatically change you. But I don't think it's a reach to say she's had minor tweaks throughout the years. She still looks like Taeyeon now, and she still looks great, but she's definitely had some things done. Some things I've noticed are that her eyes are wider, her eyelids deeper, lips more prominent, lip corners lifted, jawline less prominent.
There's nothing wrong going for these procedures! I don't think anyone here is hating on her for those procedures. We're just speculating about plastic surgery procedures in a plastic surgery thread.
Also she is known to be a HUGE homebody, but it's not like homebodies never leave the house or date or record music or anything. It just means you spend a lot of time at home. I'm sure there are tons of homebodies who nip out every now and then to get some procedures done.

Kpoprocedure on Instagram did nice breakdowns on Jaemin and Jeno, I really like their takes because they use side by side comparison photos with similar angles as they can and it really picks up minute changes.
I've seen @kpoprocedure being mentioned on this thread every few pages and I'm quite confused. I'm a follower of the page myself and I really appreciate the posts, but I don't take them to heart or use them as the gospel truth to refer to. As far as I know, the person behind the account is merely speculating about all these procedures based on photos (like everyone else on this thread), just that they have a proper platform for it. Also, the owner of the account seems to have an account here too (according to the comments they've left), and sometimes it feels like a cycle where we're just repeating each other's thoughts on speculated procedures.
Another qualm I have with the photos is the use of Remini. I know it's tough to find photos in the exact same angle and lighting, and when you do, the photos don't come in the best quality (especially if they're predebut ones). But Remini basically changes the person's features and it's a generally a very poor point of reference. Every time someone posts a Remini'ed photo here, I just.. choose to ignore it. And I do the same for that Instagram account

Yeah most of RV got fillers for the comeback, including Seulgi. She's currently endorsing the lip tints for a make-up brand and it looks like she got lip filters as well, but I like how she went subtle with them!
I do agree this thread can go a little over the board with assumptions very occasionally, but otherwise I've seen mostly conducive discussion. Anyway I think all discussion here is fine bc it's not like everyone follows all the idols 24/7

Even before that before photo, she looked great
Sometime during WGM in 2014 she got her nose done, and she's had other tweaks since. Just another example of plastic surgery in K-pop to conform to conventionally attractive features instead of looking at the overall face harmony ig

Hey guys, question! In every plastic surgery video i see there is always a shaming to Jessica like the most plastic idol ever, but to be honest, i don't see that many changes in her before debut. Of course her jaw surgery has been the best i have ever seen..actually i also think her chin was reduced somehow in that same procedure. I also know she had a nose job or maybe two before IGAB, totally unnecesary cause her nose was so cute. Also the obvious fillers and botox every idol has. Anyways, i guess maybe her lids were deepened before debut and she had braces but i don't see why people think she was a monster before debut and got a totally new face? I guess there is a totally unfortunate photo but, compared to the other snsd members and pretty much every idol right now, i don't see anything special about her ps. What do you guys think she had before debut? Am i being a clown for not seeing the procedures?
Can't answer your question but I will say she was very pretty even pre-debut. In that really unflattering photo, she had just practised for hours and wasn't wearing any make-up iirc.

Yes, she knew her selfie angles but it's not like she changed THAT much. (Though I agree that jaw and chin work were AMAZING.)
I think people just called her really plastic because the jaw work + little tweaks made her resemble a Barbie (esp with the blond hair).
I'm not sure what she's had done since leaving SNSD but she looks strange now imo.

I don't think most idols did more than 2 invasive surgeries, generally it's eyes, nose or both (i tried listing those i was sure of and there were a lot).
For sure! I mostly follow female idols and SM idols so it was a little hard for me to think of them haha
I asked bc it's interesting to see how some people didn't know about some idols' surgeries (for example, I have no idea about DO's nose job). I also like to look at photos of them looking exactly the same even with different makeup and styling through the years!
You can drop some strong or uncommon examples if you want anyway haha

Even naturally attractive people get work done. Why? I could not be certain but I would put it up to pressure. The pressure of maintaining that same perfection and the pressure to be better. Since most of these people's fame comes from their visuals, they might feel pressured to look perfect. this is also the case for idols who have grown up being called 'attractive" their whole lives and still end up getting loads of work done. examples of these, which i could think of is, Jaehyun (NCT), TXT boys, sunghoon (enha), and many more. These people were already considered to be above average in terms of visuals yet they still got work done.
This conversation (as well as a recent discussion on why "attractive"/visual members always end up getting even more work done) made me wonder: Which idols have gotten only 1-2 procedures (excluding fillers and Botox lol) and then left their faces alone for the rest of their career?
We talk a lot about "the most plastic idols", and every few weeks someone comes here to ask which idols haven't had plastic surgery at all LOL. But idols who've just tweaked 1-2 things once hardly get included in the discussion.
Off the top of my head, there's Seulgi (did her nose, but I must say I'm very glad she left the shape alone) and Dahyun (eyes).
I'm sure there are more (especially for male idols), would love to have a discussion on this!

hey there!
You can call it Chemical Whitening/Lightening Cream/ ect... But at the end of the day it is pure Skin Bleaching, which have been in India, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and North America for decades.
In all of these countries I listed having lighter skin meant wealth and higher beauty. This meant if you were fair or very light you were from a high class family and not from the farm lands (India/Korea/Japan/Europe ect.).
BB Cream
So first and foremost BB Cream originally came from Germany, not South Korea. Many people think that it came from South Korea, however BB Cream manufacturers in South Korea had a very strong advertising backing, KPop. When BB Cream hit the market in South Korea it quickly became the "it" makeup to have because not only did it make skin healthier, correct imperfections, and shield skin from sun rays, it lightened the skin on their faces in a more healthier manner. I remember one of my Korean friends telling me that before BB Cream many Koreans used to use the Bleaching creams on their faces and it would cause major health issues and damage.
So due to the rave of BB Cream it quickly started spreading, a long with knock off versions which had ACTUAL STRAIGHT bleach in them (look it it's horrible, these cases were mainly in South East Asian countries and China).
Soon it was in high demand for people in North America. The Korean brands started exporting it to America and Canada at a high rate and very high prices. At this time they only had the creams in light shades only. So many women with darker tones would mix it with their own foundation. Skipping to now, so these brands wised up and noticed they were missing a huge market and began promoting BB Creams in slightly darker shades and took out the bleaching agents in some.
KPop: Skin WhiteningAs I stated above having light/white skin is all the rave in South Korea, and has been for decades even before KPop came along. Many (almost all) Kpop stars and Korean actors/actresses go through various skin bleaching (creams/pills/skin peelings), dieting, and surgeries before debuting. As others said on here they avoid the sun at all costs and it's pretty funny to watch.
However, as of recent some Koreans are actually starting to embrace their dark skin, yes there are Koreans with dark skin. Some are even tanning (or spray tanning). There are also INJECTIONS like glutathione skin whitening.
Crayon pop's Heo Min Seon EXPOSING:
To sum up, there are a lot of things that affect how the skin tone looks but the camera’s flash, the lights (especially during shows and concerts) and the affects applied when idols have pictures taken, are recorded, or are on TV are some of the biggest things that affect how they look.
WHITE-WASHING PHOTOS
Whitewashing in beauty is a phenomenon in the intersection of the fashion industry, digital photography, mass media, marketing and advertising. It describes a situation in which the skin tone of non-white people – when depicted in magazine covers, advertisements, commercials, music videos, etc. – is, digitally retouched or physically modified to appear whiter.
Crayon pop's Heo Min Seon EXPOSING:
BTS EXPOSING LIVE:
some vids: INJECTION
TANNING:
I hope this was helpful^^
This was a really interesting and in-depth post! I definitely knew that there was skin-whitening in K-pop, but I didn't know there were so many ways of doing that.
I actually engaged in a similar discussion before, but from a different point of view – I actually said that I doubt THAT many idols go for skin-whitening procedures. It definitely happens (and it's very obvious in cases of people with straight up white skin, like IU), but it's not that difficult to jump a couple of shades with proper skincare.
I'll paste my comment below! You can find the full comment here.
SpoilerI do agree that idols definitely use some skincare or have some treatments with skin-lightening properties, but the percentage that goes for full-on skin lightening is low, and bleaching would be even lower.
1) In school, I had tanned skin because I was swimming every week and attending PE lessons outdoors. After avoiding the sun and walking at sheltered areas whenever possible, my skin lightened. In fact, the skin on my face lightened the most, because I was regularly putting cleanser, scrubs, exfoliants and sunscreen on it. I didn't take care of the rest of my body as much and my arms and legs are significantly darker than my face lol.
I wasn't super stringent on skincare, but just by taking care of my face for a couple of months, it jumped by a few shades. Going by this photo, I went from like a G50 to G20. With idols so committed to skincare and bodycare and having multiple products, I don't think it's that hard to believe their skin would be much lighter with regular upkeep.
(That worked because I had lighter skin to begin with, but of course there's a limit to how much lighter one can go, especially if they had darker skin to begin with.)
2) Stage lighting + fansites whitewashing the features off + flash definitely adds to the appearance of lighter skin on idols.
There was this post I read years back, about idols who actually had to wear darker foundation while on stage, because the stage lighting completely washed everything out. You could distinctly see the darker line on their neck. (And of course, there are more tanned idols who use lighter foundation on their face only, so you see the line still.)
I can't find the article anymore, but here's one of actress Goo Hyesun talking about how she has to wear darker make-up for TV appearances.
Your best bet for an idol's accurate skintone would be looking at photos of them in real life, usually taken by fans with their phones. (Even those aren't 100% accurate – I feel like my skintone looks different in every single photo I see of myself lol.)
Of course, I don't doubt that idols DO go through skin lightening procedures. I just think there are a whole bunch of factors involved in that, and going a couple shades lighter is really not that difficult with the help of skincare, make-up, lighting, etc.

i'm down for a discord! been here for years – atp i recognise u guys' usernames and treat u like my estranged cousins lol
also regarding the idols whose surgeries u always notice... over the years i've gotten used to a lot, even momo and sana's huge veneers! but as a fan of snsd since 2011, taeyeon always throws me off. i never really understood what a v-line was until i saw her new face.
also i didn't see anyone discussing this, but joy has been looking different lately. i first noticed it from her photos at some tod's event but it's more apparent now that i've been watching new red velvet videos. i'm not sure what's changed but i'm sensing something with the eyes. she looks more like a typical insta influencer now? i also feel like her uneven eyelids are even more obvious now. or maybe it's just the filters?
