Which male idols do you think are gay?
Targaryen replied to cold soba's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
I didn't consider anything he said to be of homophobic nature when he spoke about Holland and I'm sure he was speaking from his own personal experience with other LGBT people where he lives. Generalised views tend to be formed per experiences. As for the idols he's interacted with, Aoora seems to be the most obvious. There was another group he interacted with more recently by the name of VAV. I'm incredibly late to this reply. I'm sorry for responding to something pages back. -
I don't think you understood what I was saying. Social media shows you trends and news based on your location, this includes Twitter. What is a popular topic for someone in South Korea won't be for someone in America and vice versa. They will only be able to easily see things that are trending worldwide. The news feed itself on Twitter is location based. Someone in Japan will not receive Romanian news, for example.

I watched the clip of what she said, and I have read the multiple apologies she's tweeted out (she has been replying to people and apologising). I want to start by underlining that what she said was incredibly insensitive, ignorant and hurtful to the people it affected. It was obvious that she didn't have a clear grasp on what she was saying and the consequences of her words not to herself, but to the people who were watching and listening. I, myself was shocked and surprised to hear her stance on the video. This is an extremely sensitive topic. However, she has apologised, and is currently continuing to apologise. Her apology seemed very sincere. I will never tell others how to feel or to forgive someone, but I do want to say something here pertaining to the kpop fandom and cancel culture that I feel is very important: cancel culture is not a productive way to educate people who need to be educated. It is not a productive way to build a better future where the oppressed are finally heard. Cancel culture is something that often times backfires and causes those who are doing the cancelling to appear irrational and spiteful to anyone on the outside. Regardless of whether cancel culture works or not (I've seen many arguments that it doesn't work and therefore "isn't real"), it actually damages movements more than it moves those movements forward. Cancel culture is an immediate emotional response to unfavourable behavior of those who someone stans and idolises, someone who has been put on a pedestal and expected to adhere to personal standards. If people viewed idols as flawed humans who will inevitably make mistakes and are still learning as they move through this journey of life (as we all are), people would likely not have the impulse to cancel someone for a mistake they've made. Adding to this, the Western segment of kpop's fandom has to understand that while the issues in America are severe and significant, the rest of the world simply cannot know everything at all times. In other words, the world does not revolve around America, and vice versa. Every country revolves around itself before it revolves around others. People will always know what is going on around them, in the country they reside in, before they know what's happening elsewhere. Continuing to throw hate at someone for their mistake even after they've apologised is not productive, and it crosses the line into bullying territory. How can anyone grow and learn from their mistakes if they are not allowed to do so? If people are not given the chance to change, to learn, to become educated, then they won't. If they are met with endless hate and aggression, it won't help them become educated in a productive way. They might even view things as irrational. I don't believe aggression is a productive way of making someone realise what they did was wrong. Everyone has to give people room to grow, or they never will. Specifically, in this case with Amber, I do believe she was and is genuinely ignorant to the racial climate in America. She may have been born in America, but she has spent a long time in South Korea even counting her visits home, where social and political issues are far different than in America. Furthermore, what country you reside in determines what news and media you're often met with, and what social media apps determine is a "trend" for you, which ultimately has a hand in shaping someone's views (in this case, encouraging Amber's ignorance). I would not at all be surprised if she sincerely did not know about the racial climate in America, especially with how quickly it has worsened in the past two years. In her apology, she mentioned that things have changed since she left, and while she's right, it's also that there has been a more directed light shed on the corruption of the police force in recent years, so more and more people are aware of it. But I wonder, if she spends most of her time in South Korea with South Korean news and social media apps that give her trends based on her location, then how would she be able to truly understand until now? Lastly, importantly, everyone is entitled to the way they feel, but please be mindful of what you say to and about idols.

other companies have their own issues, but yg is just incredibly terrible at properly promoting their artists to the extent of wasting away years of life that could have been used for the exact purpose of why they signed with yg in the first place.

I didn't know this about G-Dragon! Do you have any links to the interview or video where he said that? As for Heechul, he once had a Facebook for a very brief amount of time and set his orientation to "interested in men and women". I don't know if anyone here remembers that, but I do. -

I agree with some points but disagree with others. I can agree with the argument against bearding to an extent, but it is also possible that the idol himself creates a dating scandal. There are many reasons someone would be willing to be involved in a dating scandal with another idol if they're trying to hide their orientation. Bearding doesn't have to mean a label company is the one creating rumors. There are a few scandals I remember where the companies of both involved parties weren't at all on the same page (ex: one company denies the rumor, the other confirms it). And, of course, this sort of lack of communication can also be an indication of the relationship being real, as well. Dating scandals can also be used to cover up unfavorable information coming out against a label company. It diverts attention away from that, and rather onto the two popular idols that are said to be in a relationship. PR definitely works, as it always has in any entertainment industry across the world. Companies sometimes (and even often) see bad publicity as something favorable. Publicity is publicity. I would even argue that dating scandals haven't really left a negative impact on any idol's career with the exception of Seolhyun from AOA who unfortunately had many other things working against her that people picked on, and Hyuna and E'dawn who had a very unique situation. I can't think of any idols other than these whose careers had bumps in the road due to this. I do believe many dating scandals are real (I definitely don't doubt the validity of Zico and Seolhyun, for example) but I also believe there is a high possibility that some aren't. Fake relationships are not uncommon in any entertainment industry. -

i agree! kai doesn't ping me at all. i believed both of his dating rumors, and i'm also inclined to believe he and taemin are just very close friends. taemin himself, on the other hand... -
thank you so much for these recommendations, the descriptions sound a lot like what i'm looking for! do you know of a place i can watch these on a streaming device? are they available on viki or netflix?

the mention of ren reminds me: idols that are very enthusiastic about being a fan of a singer that is an lgbt representative is a clear giveaway. of course, there is the possibility someone can be straight and be a fan of, for example, lady gaga, but it's less likely. heechul was like this with lady gaga as well but i'm not sure if he still is. i'm also of the opinion that there are a lot more than just a handful of lgbt idols in the industry, but i do recognise and acknowledge there are also many straight people. i hold more of the view that rather than a landslide of 80/20 in either direction, it's probably more 50/50 give or take. -
thank you for the recommendations, everyone! it helped me find some that i'd be interested in! i'd definitely be willing to check out c-dramas too!

baekhyun and taeyeon was one i felt the same about. with kai and jennie, i thought there was too much evidence that pointed to it being real, but perhaps i haven't really read enough about it (or the evidence was planted). -
i haven't watched any k-dramas for a few years now and i'd like to watch one or a few again. i like dramas that are lighthearted and have romance, so basically the romance comedies. please recommend ones you like from the past few years!

I was thinking about the topic of public idol relationships and how some of them are rumored to be fake publicity for many various reasons (such as covering up government scandals, diverting attention away from something going on in the company that the company doesn't want exposed, and more). I have also seen theories that some idols agree to be part of public relationship scandals in order to reassert the idea that they are straight. I would like to ask everyone here a question: which public relationships do you think were fake? -
[pann-choa] HOW LONG DO YOU GO WITHOUT WASHING YOUR HAIR?
Targaryen replied to bye-bye's topic in Netizen Nation
This doesn't apply for all hair types and textures. People with very oily hair have to wash their hair every day or their scalp can become irritated from oil build up, their hair can become greasy, and the excess oil weighs down the appearance of the hair. Dry shampoos do not typically do justice in these cases. Straight, oily hair can withstand being washed every day. -

[knetizen] Which girl group do you think represents SM / JYP / YG?
Targaryen replied to bye-bye's topic in Netizen Nation
When I think of YG, I think of 2NE1. JYP, Twice and SM, SNSD.
