by which metrics are we judging their success? because their physical album sales are pretty much on par with all the other sm groups except exo, and their concerts sell great too. as for why they don't chart the answer is simple; they're not trying to. sm seems to have realized that interest from the gp (which is nearly impossible for boy groups to garner anyways) doesn't pay as well as a dedicated and hardcore fandom who's willing to go above and beyond for their faves. this gives them a lot more room to experiment with different, unconventional sounds. mark even straight up said in an interview that they're intentionally not targeting the general public, but rather going for a more niche and untapped market.

can't we just drop all the pretenses and admit that it's fun to roast other people on the internet sometimes? you've done it. i've done it. i doubt anyone who's reading this rn is completely innocent of this. as for the mass bandwagon hate towards single individuals who express (sometimes controversial) opinions, i'd guess it's less about the entertainment of dragging them and more about pride, self-righteousness and a tribalistic need to defend your own faves at the expense of others.

i know i'm like 3 years late and it's probably been talked to death already, but i watched the wailing by na hong-jin for the first time a few weeks ago and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. it's really gotten under my skin. i don't wanna give too much away (it's a movie best enjoyed if you go in blind) but if you like movies like hereditary and midsommar, you should definitely give this one a try.
