Acting was Kris's focus during his predebut period? Wow, I never knew that. lol I always think Taoris would be great actors because they're so tall and animated looking. They would suit those idol dramas like BOF or The Heirs. But of course, I want to see them in more qualified movies. (I like The Heirs though)

Oh, I wasn't sure if you're referring to like forums or just in general because in most asian countries, Tao ranks pretty high (Like he'e top 2-3 in Japan, China, Malaysia, and some other countries) and most international fans tend to dislike Chanyeol and Beak the most. Some forums would give a different impression, especially international ones, but especially with Tao fans, it's not the best way to gauge popularity. Tao fans stick to themselves and don't really bother commenting and going to places that isn't Tao centered since alot don't wanna deal with any bullshit or only care about Tao and not the rest of the members. They kinda have their own community, but trust me it's a huge one. You just have to see how many birthday projects he has and the amount of money they're raising in his name in a matter of a month to know. One of the minor ones already raised like 20K in a couple of weeks and it's not even one of the big projects.

 

True. Weibo is really biased though, and some thought it is manly. What about you? What are you opinions on his hair?

 

I'll make up my mind when I see it styled. Going off airport pics doesn't do much good since their hair always looks a mess there no matter what style they have.

I knew that. Yeah we have too since we see things differently. They are 12 men working closely together so of course there will be friction. I'm ready to accept it if it was just me overreacting to everything. For now, I'll just side eye Chanyeol and nothing more.

 

 

Of course there will be friction, with all of them. I just don't think the two dislike each other or there is any ill intent there. Personally, I'm super easy going and I've never held a grudge in my life so that might have to do with why I see it so differently from others. As long as Tao is happy, it's all good to me and he seems happy.

Anyone can dislike Tao even Chanyeol himself. Why would it upset me if a person has that kind of reaction when they have the right to? I just don't like how he speaks to him on camera, in front of other people. No one would like it if their bias had someone condescendingly (his tone, even without speaking the language, was just that especially in that Showtime episode before they went the beach) 'teach' the proper way to speak the language. I haven't seen the China line do this to the 8 members when they are in china. It's common courtesy to recognise a person's weakness and not to use it like that against them. 

Tao forgives easily which is why he will be chummy with the person which is how I explain his friendliness. Of course a lot could be happening behind the scenes and they could be fine with one another but I can't see that so I form my opinions based on their interactions and my instinct. My instinct tells me Chanyeol doesn't respect him. Maybe it's because they are too similar or Tao's personality might be too irritating for him. I don't know. I'm just hoping they find a common ground or at least Chanyeol tones it down.

 

Well the part about his stans was just a general statement, not directed at anyone here. Personally I don't find that Chanyeol has ever had a condensing tone with Tao or shown any disrespect. The way he corrected his Korean was rather nice imo. But that's me, we'll agree to disagree.

Yes, although Tao wasn't the reason why I joined this forum, he was the reason why I become much more active. Oh, I see. I think his predebut long hair was weird on him. But if it's styled the right way now, it might work. 

 

 

Well, that's part of being a stan. You pay more attention to your bias and weigh him/her more heavily than others. I don't mean that you should be super bias. When it's too obvious, speak the truth to prevent yourself from looking stupid. You're right, I think you might be able to see it more objectively since he's not your main bias. But honestly though, not just Tao's stan who are sensitive toward him, it's also other stans. i.e. Kai being called dark, Suho being called rich all the time, Lay and Xiumin being underexposed...etc. It's the stans who react the biggest about their biases. Of course, to me, I find that Tao closer to Chanyeol and DO than most of his stans may think. Even sometimes, I feel like I should not be too nitpicking about them. The problem is though, you have to take into account that some fans are probably relating it to themselves. It's not like whatever their bias like they should like or whatever he/she dislike they should dislike. Although I'm a fan, I still want to stand by my belief and not blindly agree with whatever my bias say. I hope I'm not going off on a tangent here, but you see what I'm getting at? I totally respect your opinion on that and I think I see your reasoning. 

 

Yea I know all stans do that, I was pointing out his stans because this is a discussion on Tao. And I get what you're saying about not liking what your bias likes but at the same time, in this instance it's talking about his relationship with individuals based on the glimpses we get from edited shows and such where it's harder to gauge if someone's action in that instance is actually the way it looks than your bias simply saying/doing something you disprove of due to the involvement of so many factors that we don't know if that makes sense. So I feel like it's more reliable to go based on how Tao reacts more than anything else, especially given his emotions are more easily readable than the average person.

Yea, I know. I still feel like alot of people who think that are coming from a place where they themselves are uncomfortable with how the two act versus actually paying attention to how Tao seems to react to them. In my opinion, Tao seems to be rather comfortable with both of them (especially Chanyeol) and not in a way of just being "nice" (because he doesn't really do that) but like he genuinely has a good enough relationship with them. I've also seen plenty of times where both have been really nice and caring to him, alot more than them being "annoyed" at him so to speak, but nobody ever focuses on that. I just find that some Tao stans are a little too sensitive when it comes to him. Like if he's not being doted on 24/7, it means someone has a problem with him. Not saying anyone here is like that but just in general, that's a vibe I've gotten from some fans. Maybe because he's not my main bias, I'm a little more objective towards him. I actually think it's a good think that there is a member or two in the group that doesn't give in to his every whim, sometimes he needs a stern figure to help him reign it in a little. Anyways, just my take. Tao seems to like them so I guess I don't worry about it.

Yeah actually I notice Exo members all have symmetrical faces. That's 12 people. that's crazy. Tao has a beautifully symmetrical face.

 

Tao's face is unusually proportional though, even among the members. Like men's faces aren't usually as symmetrical as that, his ratio fits the ideal to a T. He's lucky because ti's probably what allows him to be so photogenic. But it makes it really hard for anyone to draw him decently

that is what I thought, too. He patronises him and is openly irritated with him especially when it comes to the korean language and it really angers me because Tao usually looks very embarrassed and uncomfortable. The only time he interacts 'warmly' with Tao is when there is a camera on them or he is sure they're being watched.

Anyways, there wasn’t anything on there that fans didn’t already know but the friend did say something that I thought was interesting. He mentioned “"Oh Sehun has some personal stuff to attend to as well." I wouldn’t find that weird if it wasn’t for the fact that I remember him talking alot about how he was dealing with some certain personal issues that he couldn’t really talk about in interviews. Like I know he said it in one of the radio shows he was on (the one with Baekhyun I believe because I remember Baekhyun was surprised that Sehun was going through some stuff and Sehun mentioned that only a select few members knew about it) and there was also one magazine article where he kept mentioning it alot. These were some of his answers from his interview:

 

Men’s Style: Your face is very skinny, and you’re tall, and look really good on screen, of course, you are very handsome in real life, you’re so perfect, is there anything that troubles you?

SEHUN: It’s hard for me to say it out~ Because there are quite a lot of things that are troubling me ㅠ_ㅠ I am working hard to improve in each of them~

I think Tao takes more of the physical initiative but Sehun, while not as physical, goes out of his comfort zone more for Tao.

Yes. He even has him saved on his phone as "My beloved Omma Suho Hyung" or something along those lines and made a weibo post about him where he also referred to him as Omma.

That's def Chanyeol imo, the person in the pic isn't skinny enough from the back to be Sehun and the head shape looks just like Chanyeol's. His ears protrude out more from the front, you can't really tell from the back.

Okay if thats true then I must have overestimated Exo's popularity a lot. My apology. Thinking about it, Im actually quite happy to know that they arent that big yet because I want to see them as more reachable. I dont want to see them having individual activities yet. I personally feel actors have more boring activities to watch than idols. Another good thing is that we can still see them working hard as a tight group.

 

No need to apologize lol, it's no biggie. I mean they have potential so if SM plays their cards right, they can get pretty big. It's just that it hard to sell a group to the majority of China...they usually stay within a niche since China is so large. That's why you'll see alot of groups try to make it in Taiwan instead, they'll get more money and fame that way. But EXO have the advantage of having been in the same company as SJ who already have a name in China and they have a big enough fanbase so it all really depends on how far SM is willing to push them there.

Really? While I do think that in terms of fame, chinese actors > idols, but in terms of popularity and fanbase, the gap is not necessarily that big if not nonexistent. Considering Exo is still new to the entertainment, they are potentially biggest rising artists. I know Luhan's popularity is on par with HXM. I read this article before where they put Luhan, HXM, and someone else in the same tier as no.1. I do think that individually, Exo-M may not be a tier with actors but if it's the whole Exo-M, then it's a different story and if it's OT12 then it's another different story. Since China has a bias for their own people, most Chinese idols in Korea are really big (Victoria, HanGeng) and that's why the China Line is >>> the rest of exo members in terms of fanbase there. I read somewhere before that only Exo got to perform on the biggest stage with big idols/celebrities. They had won most of the biggest awards in China. Luhan alone is really huge already followed by Kris, Lay&Tao. Of course, I do believe seniority plays a huge role in the industry. Those who have been in the entertainment longer are more well-known and respected. Believe me, I love Liu Yi Fei and she's one of the biggest stars in China right now. She's young but has been in the entertainment for over 10 years and has done 2 Hollywood films. So she can be considered more famous than Angelababy and on tier with HXM. However, her baidu monthly count is only around Tao/Lay (around 4-5 million) whereas Luhan has 14+ million and Kris 12+.  This isn't to say that if you put Exo in a drama/movie with her, they will get to play the main role. Nope, they won't since they are only rookie actors and directors won't do that. However, in the long run when they get to do solo activities like acting and stuffs, they will also be seen as the same tiers as actors. I.e. Han Geng. He is huge since Suju days but he needed a chance to go solo in order to be recognized as a global artist. Because idols are always not taken as seriously as actors, they are sometimes deemed as not on par with actors. But their influential and popularity and fanbase cannot be underestimated. Korean Forbs 2014 definitely shows that idols are on the higher ranks thank actors. I don't know if this makes sense to you. 

 

Haha I'm quite surprised too, I feel like maybe they like his personality? Like Tao is so easy to get along with. I wonder how this situation was led up to. 

 

I'll get back to this in more detail later when I have time unless someone else does it first but Luhan or any of Chinaline for that matter is in no way, shape, or form on HXM or Angelababy's league at all in terms of anything in China. Like at all. Whatever articles there have been or whatever polls any of them have topped are irrelevant because alot of it is mediaplay and the polls are spammed 50 billion times (it's posted all over weibo on how to bot votes every time there is a poll with Chinaline). Their fanbase may be big but it can't compare to actors whatsoever...their fanbase is mainly teenagers and teens are active online so they have more of a presence whereas all of China knows HXM and Angelababy but their fanbases don't care about polls and spending hours online for them. They have a huge reach and EXO ain't even close. Hangeng is big in China but even he's not at HXM's level and EXO can't even touch Hangeng so...Also EXO-M is more popular in China than EXO as a whole. That's why I always say their biggest chance of getting into the Chinese market big time is through EXO-M. China don't really care for the Korean members like that, they're mainly there for Chinaline so they only really need EXO-M. Having 2 Koreans with no Chinese knowledge is better than having 8 of them.

 

Anyways, there is alot of misconceptions about EXO and their popularity in China. They're really not that big and any C-exo fan will tell you that. Their popularity now is more comparable to SJ-M, but not to any big Chinese celeb.
