Gfriend;s management basically abandoned Yuju and put everything against Eunha . That gained Gfriend some foreign fans, but guess the new fanbase was not enough to justify Gfriend continuing.
-
If it does not turn into money, Laboum will meet the same fate with Yeochin (GFriend).

I wrote this in April 2020 so I am not surprised by GFriend's disbandment, although Big Hit not retaining Eunha and SinB was unexpected. In 1996, Tom Hanks produced and directed a movie That Thing You Do, about a fictional 1960s rock group from a fallen industrial town, which has its 15 minutes of fame before imploding like a supernova, with only the central character (who was NOT part of the original members of the band) finding some kind of niche. A suddenly popular act, with no history of support , does not last long. It happened to EXID and it happens to GFriend. Brave Girls remain to be seen but since it has no probability of becoming popular outside of korea, they will probably begin to pursue their own agenda when their contracts end in 2023. GFriend's fall began with Fingertip, and the shunning of Yuju late 2018. I do not know whether Yuju can regain the fame it had on mid-2015; she dueted Up10tion's Sunyoul, who is now trying to find a niche as a trottist; and a chap named Jihoo, who now teaches trot to middle aged women. That's because Source's then owner was friends with the company owners of these two, but that cheapened Yuju's value significantly, while Eunha got to duet with Block B's ParkKyung. GFriend was reorganized around Eunha, but now Eunha is abandoned as well. Ironically, its end will be remembered for a while, because of its suddenness (Umji did her podcast as late as last morning). Unfortunately the prognosis for most of the members are not good, since none of them did establish enough basis to sustain individual careers for too long.

They will disband as scheduled. Yoo Jaesuk gave them a nice graduation gift, but that is not turning into financial incentives. The company has moved on to something else. I think they stopped pushing Laboum at some point because of its many incidents, most of them negative, and decided to just send the group off in peace with a nicely framed diploma.

Someone compiled a list of countries United Kingdom fought against. Other than some African countries which were under French rule in the first half of 20th century, a couple landlocked South American countries plus several newer countries whose old owners had fought the Crown, only Sweden and Mongolia did not fight against UK. And if the great Khan Ogedei had lived a few months longer so the Mongols further penetrated into Europe, it is likely that UK would have fought Mongolia as well. ----- May 16th is the day Park Chunghee overthrew Korea's first democratic (although weak) regime on 1961, and also the day KPop's Senior Singer was born. So I am going to recall the acts IU fought actively or passively. The criteria is acts which were directly competing against her when she was promoting, actively or passively. CNBlue (IU fought against CNBlue during Nagging) Big Bang (GD & Top) Kara Sistar DBSK SNSD Wonder Girls T-Ara Trouble Maker (Hyuna and Hyunseung) SNSD - TTS Shinee EXO (first week of Jan 2014, IU's Friday against EXO's Miracle in December) F(X) Laboum Sechs Kies Im Changjung Monsta X NCT 127 Baek Yerin Red Velvet Nuest (During 'Eight') Twice (During 'Eight') IZone (During 'Eight' - I fought at that time IZOne did defeat the Senior Singer, although the latter had defeated IZOne digitally in Feb 2020) Seventeen BTS Golden Child Kim Wooseok Baekhyun Kang Daniel Brave Girls Itzy ONF ---- I might have missed a couple since I based my list mostly upon Music Bank, but the people she fought cover from 2007 to now, a 15 year span. She also fought against Im Changjung and Sechs Kies as well. She is 28 but she fought against at least 30 major acts, and the list is only likely to grow. Only TTS, Shinee and Laboum appear to have a positive record on her overall.

cover-k Goeun (PURPLE KISS) - "이름에게 (Dear Name)" (orig. IU)
Yknocker replied to kimsguardian's topic in Music
Since Mamamoo was friendly with Kpop's Senior Singer, Na Goeun continues the affinity between RBW and Edam by paying filial duty to IU, six years older but two generations above. -
Do You Think Brave Girls Could Ever Chart In The US?
Yknocker replied to Your Biggest Fan's topic in Random
Ask Lee Jieun about charting in USA -
She is 2 months younger than KPop's Senior Singer

Today is Mother's Day, and every Mother's day I list KPop figures who had paid Filial Duty to its Senior Singer, despite of the fact that she is actually barely older than them. I only list those who paid Filial Duty to Kpop's Senior Singer in the last 12 months. Perfs in IU's Palette are excluded since that is part of the program. Since people like Lee Soohyun of Akmu and Kim Sejeong have covered the Senior singer quite often I exclude them. Kwon EunB of ex-IZOne ONF (despite of their filial duty, IU robbed its first major show win Yesterday - the Senior Singer is very greedy!) Wonpil of Day6 Eric Nam Suho of Exo DreamCatcher Jaeyoon of SF9 With so many singers paying Filial Duty to her, KPop's Senior Singer would have another proud Mother's Day, I guess.

It is said that Miyawaki Sakura will enter HYBE. It is not known whether she will be put into a group or debut as a soloist. Being a Japanese, she has no restriction performing in China where she is said to be quite popular. Some say she is kinda too experienced to be put into a new group, as shown in Rocket Punch where Takahashi Juri never fit into a group of all Koreans. So they say it might be better to make her into a soloist. If she is released from her group obligations and becomes a soloist, she is likely to do worst digitally in Korea, but would become popular in Japan and China. Kim Hyunjoong's singing skills had a lot to be desired, but he had individual concerts in Japan and China, and even after all the mess surrounding him, he retained enough international fans to have a 'world tour' in 2019. Ms. Miyawaki is 1 year younger than Ms. Manoban and 5 years younger than Ms. Lee, and she might steal the moment before the next generation of KPop comes online in earnest. In korea Sakura is unlikely to overturn IU, but in other countries, I think she will eat a lot of the shares of KPop's Senior Singer.

As long as BTS exists, it will NOT die

What is happening is newer talents are now training for trot since it is relatively easier to go solo in that genre (it is rare for trot to have soloists) Former girl group members Kang Hyeyeon of Bestie and Hwang Woorim of a little known group went into trot as well. I think that newer people who don't have group ambitions will increasingly enter trot , which will lead to having more foreigner 'it girls' in KPop.

I am talking about the "It Girl". Jang Wonyoung could possibly take the place, but I am not 100% sure as the Senior Singer has proven to be quite resilent

Basicallly JYP stopped promoting Tzuyu thinking about the monies his Chinese acts could bring from there, but methinks Tzuyu could have brought more money than everyone in JYP China could have brought in.

Lisa is a worldwide celebrity (Jennie and Jisoo do not count since they are in the same team with Lisa) and Tzuyu had the potential to become an Asian celebrity. And, Korea's answer to them was .. a Senior who debuted 2 decades ago. Lee Jieun is apparently promoting more stuff than any other Korean idol, male or female. The singer who contributed almost NOTHING to KPop until KakaoM surrendered to Spotify on March 11, 2021, is the best counter Korea could have presented for all the se years! Because they could not find a competition in the major companies, they had to go to DSP, now a minor company, and tried to use Lee Naeun to counter Lisa and Tzuyu, but Lee Hyunjoo basically ended such chances, so the Senior Singer , at the advanced age of 27.9 years, still has to counter Lisa and Tzuyu in Korea. Given the advanced ages of IU, I don't know how long she can counter Lisa and Tzuyu, and if IU collapses because of her old age before a successor is found in the terms of it girl in Kpop, then foreigners will dominate this genre for ever. Why the newer generation is not rising to counter them so their grandmother still has to remain as the final block against them?

Although the leader for Lightsum has not been announced, people say Lee Joohyun will become the leader of that group. Cube traditionally put the oldest member as the leader, but it began to change with Pentagon. Although Jinho is older than Hui, the leader, as we all know Jinho was a long time SM trainee, and apparently Hui was in Cube for longer than Jinho so Jinho was not named the leader. Gidle's leader, Jeon Soyeon, is actually fourth in the age ranking, but since she basically produces the group it is reasonable that she would become the leader. However, people say Lightsum will make Lee Joohyun the leader. A lot of people speculated Chowon would become the leader, but Cube apparently chose Joohyun because she was under Cube for 7 years. That might be seen as a wise decision by some, but I think it is just throwing more shit to the Produce 48 people that they are NOT the main members. Cube had the wisdom to bring in Yoon Sangah, who is a few days older than Chowon. Making Chowon the leader will piss Sangah, and vice versa. So Cube went for the easy solution, making the trainee who was there for the longest time the leader, regardless of age, hoping Lee Joohyun would coordinate the group like J of T. But such move basically means Yoon Sangah will take over the group, alienating the PD48 people who have quite a lot of pented up anger. I do think that bringing Sangah in is a huge mistake which will probably throw shit to the group's cohesion, but this is not the first time Cube messed up by bringing in someone who does not fit.
