  1. Not really. In the idol industry you can pretty much interchange ''rappers'' with ''subvocalists'' with ''dancers''. The final group doesn't actually need that many main/lead vocal calibre trainees due the number of members and (presumably) centre-focused line distribution will be (at least on debut, lest we run into complaints of the Top1 not being suitably rewarded). See: Gugudan and how they have so many good singers but it doesn't show in most of their songs, or how Dawon from WJSN gets shafted so hard in terms of line distribution I sometimes question if she's really the main vocalist. Which is why I also don't get agree with the criticism/not-very-subtle-shade of trainees who're popular for their looks. I mean, why not? We're not exactly producing an acapella group to participate in Eurovision here. ETA: Ive also lost count of the number of ''rappers'' which the show has shown to be decent singers, so. Even if the Top9 debuts as is, it'll be fine~
  2. Quick and dirty translation by a bilingual (aka me) of the relevant parts: Like what curlypoodle said, nothing new really. Rest of the article is about the producer/business-side of IP. (if anyone is interested in a translation I can do the rest as well, but the article is loooong) JieMian Entertainment: Up till now there haven't been any successful cases, how does Iqyi plan to promote final group of 9? Jiang Bing: Together with Ge Jie (Taiwanese producer), Iqiyi will be specially creating a company to manage the 9-member group from this show. Many of these trainees have their own company management, and a company's lifeblood is their people*. So YueHua's people are still YueHua's people, Banana Culture's people are still Banana Culture's people. It's just that for those who enter the top 9, their main management for the future 18 months will be with Iqiyi&GeJie's companu. Ge Jie has many resources in the entertainment industry, and she has put her all into planning and prepping for the 9-member group's concert and fanmeeting, and I felt that this is pretty striking. For Iqiyi, (our part) is more of helping them to continue to gain exposure on Iqiyi, to have group varieties, and even music charting shows; all these platforms that will allow boygroups have room to grow, for the return of idols on an idol stage**. *I'm not 100% sure of his words here. Literally translated, the sentence is "company's lifeblood is (their) people's rights" Which I took to meant that a company's lifeblood is their people, and that these people are also their rights, and therefore Iqiyi can't and won't claim long-term management of the trainees. **Probably referring to how the idols in china don't really have many opportunities to promote as an idol as compared to KR. RAW text of translated portion under cut
  3. Putting it bluntly YZJ & ZR have their established 'places' already as the de facto vocalist & visual fairy. Meanwhile all YFT has going for him is literally the stage performance and for the editors to mess with it... As for BWJ... YH trainees are being raked over the coals as is after each episode by the other fandoms already, lol can you imagine if he got significant screentime/lines??? AQY has to be selective about which of the YH trainees they're going to make use of spend screentime on, so from the start BWJ (and to extent DZR) werenever gonna be given much attention. I would like for him to be given some shine, but I know it's not gonna happen. And if it does it'll be to the detriment of the YH trainees -- On a happier note: I'd like to point out how like I really like and appreciate IP's tagline 越努力越幸è¿. "The more hardworking, the more lucky" Despite my issues with the show's editing, the overall feel that IP conveys is still very positive and motivational. I like it.
  4. Iqiyi are a lot less heavy-handed than Mnet, but they definitely know what they're doing and it's nagl
  5. omggg they're so evil not revealing the ranking of the last two groups. It won't matter for guys like CXY for the YH trio, but for the lower ranked trainees in their respective teams those benefit votes matter soooo much orz ETA: omg BWJ why are you so expressionless
  6. Firewalking's is David Amber. Still watching through the episode so can't comment for the rest. The information (composer, lyricist, vocal harmonies) is all listed in the bottom left of the screen at the start of the song in the episode.
  7. What they're saying literally translates to "I want to hug (a) big leg". Hugging a big leg loosely translates to the gaming phrase "get carried". For this round of live voting the winning group as a whole gets benefits. CXK (aka the big leg they're referring to) is very popular and in their group so they're rejoicing(?) in a joking manner the fact that their group will be boosted by his popularity.
  8. asdfghjkl these kids are adorable When Lay was introducing the rules for the live voting there's a shot of some of the kids from the Listen to What I Say team sing-chanting "I wanna get carried, I wanna get carried~" while seal-clapping. asdfghjk I cannot; they're so cute. the atmosphere between the trainees themselves and between their fandoms is soooo different
  9. I wasn't gonna watch since their target audience isn't me, but if Tao's MCing.... I CANNOT WAIT.
  10. I sorta get what you're saying in that IP and by extension Ei Ei is and will be a promotional tool, but I disagree that they should be disallowed to perform it. Ei Ei belongs to any and all trainees that have participated in this season. Doesn't matter if they end up in the final group or not, the IP label and experience is theirs and will follow them even after the show ends. It's entirely within their rights to own it and perform it. (See: Jung Soyeon in Unpretty Rapstar. I don't recall if she ever performed Pick Me on that show, but even if not she might as well have in that round where she performed in 101 uniform) As explained by others, this was at their company event. I find it doubtful that they were seriously campaigning or trying to promote to their own company. Heck if fans/company employees didn't record the performance no outsiders would know. (Also: damn the dress code for this event is relaxed af, it looked more like a community event than a company dinner from the miaopai that I saw xD) Put it bluntly, they wouldn't get much mileage out of Ei Ei even if this wasn't just a company event. YH trainees are definitively the second biggest interest-generators when it comes to IP. (Not including the mentors, of course) FCC in particular doesn't need this, poor boy appears on the hot search on a weekly-if-not-more basis. damn iQiyi keeping an ironchokehold on him to generate buzz
  11. They danced a bit of Ei Ei at the party! (is that really the song's title? Been so long since they did the eval that I forgot *sweats*) http://p.weibo.com/show/channerWbH5/1034:b4067ad07edfcb24f0cf19fcd8a4378c
  12. Cackling @ CXK voluntarily withdrawing from Dream. Will make the group competition more fun to watch now that there's no shoo-in for first place, I suppose.
  13. That...really depends. (CN fans analysis here: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/5572546036?pn=1) The general consensus is that if IP follows PD S2's format (trainees write down their ideal lineup, ones with the lowest vote leave) there's next to zero chance of the really popular ones leaving. Because this mission's another team-based mission, and pre-existing popularity is a powerful incentive to want them in the lineup. Also the other trainees probably wouldn't want to offend the big 4's fanbase by not including them in their ideal list xD The CN fans are worried that if it follows PD S1's format instead (team discussion) one(some?) of them might actually volunteer to leave though. The general predicted final lineup from the tieba thread is Big4 + 2 vocalists + DZR/WZY.
  14. The current rankings aren't really a good indicator though. One-pick tends to introduce a sizeable shakeup in rankings. Plus, it didn't happen for Jelpi, didn't happen for Nuest, didn't happen for MMO; I don't think it'll happen now. 4/9 is a huge proportion.
  15. The situation with the YueHua votes reminds me of the one with Jelpi (Sejeong, Mina & Nayoung). It's not even as ergrious, especially for the Vocal segment -- the top4 were very very close (<10 votes difference). But I must confess my personal bias -- just like in P101, I've become more excited for the company debut than the final Produce lineup. can the YH fans just all tank their votes come final voting so we can have the YueHua boys debut earlier?
  16. Good things will come for those who wait! I'm really happy about the news re: the CF deals and their appearance fees. GET THAT WON, KIDS. (granted, who knows how much they'll actually get after their respective company takes its cut, but hey, income is income!)
  17. Well those who're okay/supportive of the lineup have / have retreated to the group thread, while those who aren't are busy making threads or ranting/consoling themselves in their respective individual artist/group threads. And then occasionally 1~2 people being really rude in the thread about how the lineup turned out and everyone else telling them to take a chill pill. Did the S1 thread die down as well or no? -- EDIT: opps, topped. Here, have a old group pic to start off the page.
  18. If they did there wouldn't be any need for them to have two sets of pictures no? Just prep the set for the lineup that they want and upload it when it's time. Or maybe they're both corrupt and incompetent lol
  19. Purposely have the finale cutoff at top 20 instead of top 22 like last season. Guan Lin (a known fan favourite) was rank 20, Mnet wanted the drama(?) of him being almost-eliminated. And poor hyunbin & yongguk became collateral damage.
  20. In ideal top 11: Daniel, Jaehwan, Jisung, Ong, Woojin Ideal but didn't make it: Seonho (he's my preferred CUBE chick) Eunki Insoo Taedong I learned from S1 of P101 not to get too attached to any one person (by gods I was pissed when Sohye made it over Kim Nayoung & Han Hyeri) so I'm actually pretty pleased with the final lineup even though technically I'm only a fan of 5/11. I believe the remaining members have their own charm, even if I don't see it quite yet.
  21. Yes keep telling yourself that. Is it so hard to believe that all the trainees that've made it so far have their own charm and fanbases?
  22. Too late, already happening. (if Pledis does their job right and make use of Nuest's increased popularity/brand recognition soon the outright hate and anger might simmer down to just lingering resentment though) EDIT: also -- conspiracy theories. Tinfoil hats incoming!
