OACA are the one true best uncle group

AQY is such a mess RE: Screentime, nothing is by accident. I find it interesting that they completely left out the Quit Smoking group in the first half of the program (little to no shots of trainees entering/waiting in the room, little to no shots of them getting tricked by their mentors, little to no shots of deciding part distribution. Now, any one of these might have been normal, but all these coupled together was a bit... odd, to say the least. Maybe the were just super chill throughout the process, but idk if the editing team wanted to they could've definitely added in a few quick cuts to this group, as well as the Mask group.) It's also obvious that this EP was filmed around the time ZZT was getting that whole load of nonsensical backlash for something he didn't do; he was so subdued throughout the entire episode -- I think the fact that he didn't have any other YH kids around to keep his mood up during practice was also a factor. Naturally he's not going to get much screentime, unfortunately. (Again, if the editing team wanted to they could've made something out of it, but it's not a good "storyline" to embark on this late into the season) On a tangent, I found WZY's question to Jolin very cool. I might be reading too much into it. His fans have been bemoaning the fact that he's too kind and should be more selfish in terms of competing for lines/positions; but his question implies that that something that's a part of him and he wants to continue being, even though to the outside world it might not 'suit' (be disadvatangous) to him.

Yes! This! So much!!! I was so annoyed by the camerawork for both ChengXiao & Kyulkyung's groups. Urgh. The camerawork seriously upset the balance of the choreography :c They've already released the individual cams for all the performances, but I really wish they'd release a frontal stationary cam as well. (like the group fancams that mcountdown releases)

I know idols are a lot more beholden to their fanbase than other categories of celebrities, but I do honestly think it's possible for a celebrity to cultivate a (relatively more) mature/sensible fanbase. I say this because I was watching another CN variety show, one of the guests was teenager who was a fansite master who follows many celebrities. She mentioned on the show that there's one particular lil'-fresh-meat actor that she likes but doesn't follow to the airport (白敬亭), as he'd emphasized repeated that he doesn't like fans coming to send off/recieve him at the airport. --- EP 11 thoughts (part 1 cos AQY suddenly stopped buffering midway through the vocal performance ) FIRE THE CAMERAMAN. Eh, with how IP has been edited I think you're underestimating the impact of the ban, even on net shows. Maybe it's my own personal bias -- Despite a good chunk of the trainees being 'rappers', particularly high-rankers, I'm of the opinion that the amount of offstage screentime devoted to rappers' sessions with their teachers or even their own lyric-writing etc is notably lesser compared to the trainees' woes with singing and/or dancing. I got the feeling that yeah AQY is gonna just do their thing, but they're also acknowledging(?) the ban by not putting too much of rap content in their program. Personally figured that AQY would've waited a little longer before going ahead with RoC2, but I guess by the time it actually airs the furore will be well and duly over.

I think part of it is that everyone's doing it to each other so it's quite hard to call it bullying, plus IP's editing is significantly less needlessly dramatic compared to Produce. In any case, it's very refreshing that they can be like this

Hahaa, for me I think there was a clip? of OACA trainees in their casual attire or bedclothes, and some of them (or maybe just QF) was in singlet, shorts and slippers. which is totally my personal image of neighbourhood uncles. and then the mental image stuff and now I can't unsee QF as an uncle The jokes the other trainees keep cracking about QF's age doesn't help matters any ZR has successfully cultivated an fairy image and I also view YueYue as one of the handsome uncle gang so.

In world where they're competing with and against little kids who aren't out of school and some don't even have their ID/passports yet (It's so adorable that there're pics of some trainees clutching printouts of their baidu profiles on their way to getting their visas ) QF is definitely an uncle. QZM's styling doesn't help to make him look younger either. I don't doubt it won't take long for the world to take notice of their visuals if given the opportunity though. I wouldn't go as far as to say that CLN is a visual type, but his cleancut visuals is broadly appealing. On the other hand, I wouldn't say that QZM's visuals are broadly appealing tbh. Sometimes he & QF look like neighbourhood uncles >_> Good-looking ones! But boys-next-door is a common well-liked look for idols; but handsome uncles less so. Handsome uncles are a great look for actors, though. EDIT: I SOUND LIKE I'M DISSING QZM&QF. I SWEAR I'M NOT, THEY LEGIT LOOK HANDSOME NEIGHBOURHOOD UNCLES Also for additional contrast, a lot of people said that they were turned off by CXK's visuals/styling during the first episodes, and hope he never returns to that ever again lol. PS. I mention CLN & CXK a lot in my posts because they're so popular I see their names mentioned in threads everywhere so they're always the first examples to come to mind even though I am staunchly a YH fan who doesn't go to other trainee-specific threads.

I'm curious, does she or those in her social circle who watch IP vote for trainees? Because the voting process isn't difficult; whether the audiences who watches and then moves on, or watches and gets invested, will be the true indicator of the success of IP I think.

What I observed is that CN generally prefers the more fresh-faced boyish looks when it comes to their idols. E.g. Popularity of Luhan as compared to Kris & Tao & Lay in CN Pre-Exodus. This is also a reason why CLN's became so popular (I've seen it cited a few times that the fans like his black-haired 'pure' image, and quite a few posts being opposed to him changing his hair colour). Whereas the OACA trainees (possible exception of ZuoYe) have a much more mature look to them? I don't think I could hand-over-heart truthfully call any of them freshfaced or boyish. EDIT: also TFBoys is the only notable boygroup from China I'm sorry, Uniq is small fry compared to TFBoys :c so there's that too I guess. Like I can see the OACA being commended for their visuals were they actors instead of idols, but they're not the kind of idols that CN especially likes, I think.

It's a fierce fight. Apparently already 5,400,000 votes have already been 'bought', and this is just by one fandom. Meanwhile I'm just cackling at the fans' complaints. Quotes:

Even then, compared to Rap of China, nothing went viral. I'm not seeing other shows or celebrities mimicking anything at all from the show. E.g. "do you have freestyle?" or the super-duper-mega-ultra-fast way of reading off adverts from Voice of China. IP is a big platform for the trainees no doubt, but none of the trainees are truly blowing up with the possible exception of CXK. Trainee's weibo follower growth as well as other popularity metrics has been so-so, like good, but nowhere on the level of KR Produce.

ahh okay I'm bad at this. So there's weibo, which is a big deal as you all are aware. On weibo there's this thing called 超级è¯é¢˜ (SuperTopic) and there's a 'topic' for CXK, CLN, ZZT etc etc. Fans of these people subscribe to their idol's 'topic'. Within the topic you can post pictures, text posts whatever --it's a like a miniature forum of its own. So logic goes that subscribers directly correlate with a trainees' popularity. However! Spam bots, ex-fans that don't bother to unsubscribe, dead accounts exist. So do company-made fake accounts. All these inflate a trainee's SuperTopic subscriber numbers. This is the first part, and apparently all companies do inflate their artist's subscriber counts. EDIT2: Shoved the remaining explaination under a cut. Also TLDR CXK's popularity (comparative to other IP trainees) is for real and no joke.

It's not just votes either, in all quantitative measures of popularity* CXK is a wall. It's peanuts to already established acts in the wider industry, but within Idol Producer CXK's reigns supreme. I wouldn't put it past AQY to do a mid-episode ranking reveal that puts someone else 'dangerously close' to CXK's for some extra fire though. Putting my money on either CLN or FCC to be put into the ursurper role. *only talking about within CN here.
