I don't know why either, I thought I was being respectful but I guess some people didn't like my theory, which is fine xD tbh with u, even as an aespa stan i agree re: giselle. for some reason, her dancing didnt stick out to me during black mamba, but i think it was only because they used a lot of backup dancers and she had very little lines & center, so my attention was constantly elsewhere. but in next level and savage, it was just the 4 girls so it became more obvious that her dancing was always lagging behind the other girls. i feel like most groups usually have 1 or 2 members that arent that great at dancing (even a dance-oriented group like itzy has lia) but because aespa has even fewer members, its just really noticeable when u have 3 girls with 4+ years of dance experience and 1 member that learned for less than a year. i was impressed with her rapping from her SYNK teaser when it first came out, but now that we have more material, i also feel that karina's rapping is a little stronger. even though theyre different songs, karina's rapping on "step back" rly impressed me, whereas giselle was underwhelming on "zoo". now that u mention it, i wish SM had done some sort of competition show instead of SM rookies - im not a super huge fan of competition shows because they necessitate cruelty (i.e. not everyone can debut), but SM ended up cutting like 90% of their female SM rookies from aespa's debut lineup anyway, so it wouldnt have made a difference in the end. if there had been a show like that, i still think karina would be the frontrunner (shes charismatic af and def center material), and winter and ningning would still have high placements - winter's a good all-rounder and ningning's vocal talent is undeniable. its interesting to speculate where giselle would be due to that relatability factor xD

^ this. this is why she was my favourite - i honestly need to do this re: my own dating life lol i loved yea won too! she was always so positive despite the fact that she was the only one of the girls that didnt make it to paradise the first time, or when hyunseung chose jia over her. she didnt let that discourage her and she STAYED serving body on that beach. she deserved more, but i think the reason why she didnt get much screentime was because she was unproblematic and stayed out of the drama lmao. she was just there to have a good time (which i respect), and the editors didnt know what to do with her imo so she was relegated to the "trustworthy girl friend" role to the other girls re: the guys, i agree with u, i didnt like any of them except hyeonjoong. he was one of the few guys that didnt say anything colourist (unlike sehoon and sihun, who said they liked jiyeon because she was "white and pure") and he kept it real with jia (unlike jintaek, who told soyeon a lot of half-truths regarding his intentions). junsik was like a male yeawon, in that he was nice and unproblematic, but unlike her he wasnt interesting or entertaining enough to stand out. i do think that sihun and jintaek showed some red flags too, but yeah, sehoon was a big one. i found him frustrating and interesting to watch because although he definitely has a lot of misogynistic views about women, the annoying thing is that he actually had some redeeming qualities, which made it hard for me to hate him. like, i wanted to hate him so bad but i have to admit that there were some moments that i found him charming (ex. his cooking skills, the fact that hes admittedly kinda cute, etc). i agree - iirc jia said on the first day that none of the men were her ideal type, and she only pursued hyeonjoong because of the guys, he was the "closest" to what she finds attractive (but she probably still wasnt interested). a lot of people seem to think she and hyunseung would be a good couple, but i disagree - i think she only said that his body is what she likes, but in terms of his face/personality, she didnt have much to say. i actually thought her body language during their paradise date conveyed a lot of discomfort, so it wasnt surprising to me that she still picked hyeonjoong in the end. because she didnt like any of the guys, she probably put more energy into befriending the girls. and yeah, she def saw this as a good marketing opportunity for her personal brand - shes a really smart, business savvy, and confident woman. i rly admire her for that

Before I say anything I just want to assert to all of you that I am not here to hate on Huening Bahiyyih, her brother, or her fans. I sympathize with her from the hate that she receives from a subset of GP999/Kep1er fans and I denounce all forms of harassment aimed at her or any other member. This thread is not meant to bash her - I just want to have a discussion about how all this came to be! Since the beginning of GP999, Huening Bahiyyih immediately garnered a lot of buzz from being TXT Huening Kai's sister. TXT is one of the most popular 4th gen boy groups and are the successors of BTS under HYBE. Even items remotely linked to BTS or TXT members get a huge amount of attention - whether its an article of clothing that one of the members wore or a book that one of the members has read, it ends up selling completely out of stock once word gets out. Even something like RM's off comment suggestion of having a 1.5x size ramen package has the ability to influence the decisions of a multi-million dollar company and impact manufacturing and marketing. Yeonjun got ~3-4 million followers within a day of opening Instagram literally yesterday. It's no surprise, then, that being the sister of one of BTS or TXT's members and competing on an idol competition show would rake in HUGE amounts of attention, interest, and support. Since the beginning of the show, Bahiyyih had a jumping off point that many of the other trainees did not have. For better or for worse, she had access to a platform and a following that many other girls did not. Sure, other trainees came from past competition shows or were notable former trainees at big companies, but they had very little exposure prior to the show and did not have the hot buzz that Bahiyyih got/has. We've seen this previously with other idol siblings - for instance, even before f(x) debuted, Krystal received a huge amount of attention for being Jessica's sister, especially since f(x) debuted at SNSD's heydey in 2009. Bahiyyih had a relatively strong start to the show in the K group, but throughout the show, her ranking fell to a mid to low placement. In fact, she was almost eliminated at one point in the competition (I believe it was Episode 8, where she was P24 and right above the elimination cutoff). She consistently placed outside the top - and it was only at the very end that she shot up to #2. This was probably due to her cult fan following due to being her brother's sister, the change to a 1-vote mechanic causing all the K-group trainees to rise from Korean voters (esp. since Korean votes were worth more), and IMO - because she received an outpouring of support from i-fans in response to the hate she received from some GP999 fans. The reason why I think she's had an increasing amount of i-fan support since that last episode (separate from her cult following from the beginning) is because i-fans started to see something in her - themselves. Most Kpop fans are teenage girls - there's absolutely nothing wrong with that of course, and I also acknowledge that Kpop fans come in all ages and genders - but it's simply a widely accepted fact that the majority of Kpop fans, whether for girl or boy groups, are female, and are likely between the ages of 12-19. From my own experience, most of these fans are not "popular" in real life (hell, spend a day on Stan Twitter and you'll quickly be able to infer how fans are like irl). My theory is that they see themselves in Bahiyyih, who has that sort of same "underdog" image as Yeri from Red Velvet or Giselle in aespa - they're not the standouts of their groups in terms of Korean beauty standards or talent, which encourages support from people that sympathize with them. Bahiyyih is arguably one of if not the weakest vocalist, dancer, and overall performer in Kep1er. She's still awkward on stage, and she also unfortunately doesn't fit Korea's narrow beauty standards as much as other half-white idols have (e.g. her brother, Somi, Vernon). She's not a particularly good performer, is racially ambiguous, is a little awkward, and is not conventionally "beautiful" to Koreans - and so she's become the self-insert for many i-fans, who see her as being someone that they perceive as achievable. They can be like her because they probably already possess aspects that she does. irl, they're probably not "popular" at school, are "quirky" but not in a particularly attractive way, and might not be conventionally attractive either. Bahiyyih being racially ambiguous also allows non-Korean or non-Asian fans in particular to see themselves in her, making her the ideal self-insert. All this attention - from her brother, her cult fans, from i-fans, AND even from her haters - results in a huge amount of buzz around her name. That's also the reason why her fancams have at least 5x more views than any other member's thus far... But that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY. THANKS FOR WATC- lmao jks. But seriously though, please don't send hate to her (or me). These are just my thoughts and I'd be interested to know what you all think!

[knetizen]The 10 most handsome K-pop idols of 2021
jeong jaehyuns boyfriend replied to Aegyo's topic in Netizen Nation
Period. I'm feeling petty today so lemme just read TC Candler for a minute. I'm guessing "THE 100" is related to "TC Candler" or whatever because they're using the same thumbnails and the style of their videos is the same, but like... I'm pretty sure that I remember TC Candler was exposed several years ago as being run by a white man who is also a koreaboo (and their official website has since closed, all that remains is their social media and YouTube channels)... and there's absolutely ZERO criteria to these lists. Even if you were to look them up, this is what TC Candler states in the description of their videos (and I'm quoting just key parts here): "It is not about the hottest or the most famous celebrity. Rather, the list attempts to inform & broaden public opinion, instead of reflecting it." ^What does it even mean to "inform and broaden" public opinion? I would think that a ranking should be informed BY public opinion or "reflect" public opinion in their words rather than the other way around. They're basically admitting themselves here that this list is entirely their PERSONAL opinion. In other words, it's basically just a list of their favs. "The 'Indepenent Critics' search far and wide, listening to the many millions of suggestions submitted by the public over the past couple of decades..." ^This part makes no sense. The past couple of DECADES...? Then what's the point of releasing an ANNUAL list? "Aesthetic perfection is only one of the criteria. Grace, elegance, riginality, daring, passion, class, poise, joy, prmise, hope... they are all embedded in a beautiful face." ^Like I mentioned above, THEY THEMSELVES don't even know the criteria they're talking about. Like... "aesthetic perfection"? What the hell is that? How is that even evaluated or ranked? "The diversity relies heavily on public suggestions...of course, lists are always very subjective." ^They literally say that they rely on suggestions. Let TC Candler die, it's an entirely arbitrary "ranking" that has built up notoriety over the years with Kpop fans because yall now Kpop fans love any sort of ranking with their favs involved. They make it seem like they're legit but there's no clear criteria, they imply themselves that they're just choosing their favs, and they also admit that it's entirely subjective. If the public was allowed to vote, that would even at least be more legit than this because at least there would be some sort of rationale for someone being at a certain "rank". It grinds my gears when Kpop fans cite this list to prove that their fav is "more handsome" or "more beautiful" than other people's favs. -
Something about Kep1er that just doesn’t catch my eye…
jeong jaehyuns boyfriend replied to Aphrodisiac's topic in Random
I guess I have the unpopular opinion here, but I actually love WaDaDa. It's such a fun song and contrary to most people I've seen, I actually really enjoy the "Oh Oh Oh" parts. The song is girly, refreshing, and upbeat and I think it suits Kep1er's cosmic theme really well. MVSK for me actually seems pretty generic. It's yet another girl crush-y song that we've heard a hundred times before in the past few years. MVSK is more of a cookie cutter song that girl groups would sing nowadays. I think WaDaDa is great because it's unconventional -

Which male idols do you think are gay?
jeong jaehyuns boyfriend replied to cold soba's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
this is a very short sighted take on this situation, imo. regardless of what has been posted on instagram, nothing has been directly confirmed by him or his alleged boyfriend, which means that everything about their relationship is still speculation, no matter how convinced you are. declaring someone else's relationship and sexuality in a very public manner as fact without their consent is the definition of outing someone. even if those ambiguous instagram photos are deliberately meant to be a clue, that is not the same as coming out. if he's going to come out, it should be on his terms and no one else's - certainly not the media's. it's very possible to show glimpses of your life to the public while also wishing to keep the details of your personal relationships private, except to those that you choose. every gay person knows this. if you didnt have these issues, then good for you, but that is not everyone's experience. and if you arent gay then you shouldnt be speaking on this at all. -

I still think he’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen in my life tbh -
I'm not saying what you did was right or wrong, I'm just saying that I would have hated to experience an earthquake and have someone laughing about it right next to me. Laughing or cracking jokes like Mark/Johnny just isn't the first thing my mind would go to during something like that. When I was younger, I experienced an earthquake before in my room at home, and I felt the whole house shaking. I was on the second floor so I felt the foundation of the floor moving beneath my feet. I immediately ran downstairs to check if my mom was okay because she was in the garage at the time. Even if it was a snap judgement that Mark or Johnny made in the moment, choosing to be silly in a time of crisis says a lot about the kind of person you are (in my opinion). Not aiming that at you though, but yeah lol

What was the current opinion on Jaehyun's vocal type? I remember some people saying that he's actually a tenor, but I disagree. I still think he's a lyric baritone but with a slighty higher placed voice relative to the average baritone. But not tenor imo -

i would be interested to hear some opinions on her too, her voice was so beautiful in "i see the light" -
What did Ten do? I'm a Wayzennie and I'm not aware of anything he's said or done that suggested he's an "upper class racist asshat" or "against free speech". Ten is rich and has some Chinese ancestry, but that doesn't automatically mean you can make these assumptions about him. Unless you're going to show receipts, spreading misinformation like this is in my opinion, really insidious.
