um yes, i saw both of those clips already because im kind of a heavy exotic.
this is testing my luhan fanboyism... im not sure how i feel about this

it took me like 5 months to accept jessica's averagenessand wow, thanks to whoever for giving me a thumbs down in my inquiry -.-
-
Idk. lol I'd say Lay > Luhan > Suho > Xiumin (Kai, Chanyeol, Kris, Tao and Sehun don't count. lol)
Lay's better than Luhan? I know Lu strains a lot but he I think he actually tries to project properly whereas Lay's notes (like most of Tiffany's) sound like 100% throat to me D:
I feel bad for Suho though, since he trained as long as Jessica, but she was given second main vocal and he's basically like, 5th or 6th in EXO's vocal line, lol. But I suppose it is impressive since both of them had zero interest in singing when they were scouted and had to work from square 1, so... good for them lol. I think Suho also snatched a D5 in Baby Don't Cry and I think C#5 in Into the New World
(but he never once did them live....) Xiumin's voice is nice but yeah he has some way to go. Personally I think I'm on Chanyeol's level since our voices are kind of similar and we're both basic vocalists LOLOL-

don't worry bout him ^ ^ <3 Thank you for what you said though dear
LOL no problemo
Why not. Those who do a "better" technique don't seem sound healthier than Tiffany. Like you say Tiffany have a beautiful vocal cos she is using a proper technique. It is not that hard to understand.
._.
Tone =/= technique though...
Although my ultimate bias is Fany but i have to admit seo's high note is harder to spell.
btw how about their f5 in stay girls?
is jessica's yeeun good yet?
still, is it like taeyeon >>>>>>>>> jessica > seohyun >>>>>> tiffany/sunny?
I think the general consensus of the people in this thread is Taeyeon>Jessica=Seohyun>Tiffany=Sunny, although Jessica may be a tad better than Seohyun~
And... do you mean their F5 in falsetto/head voice? I can't remember if Seohyun did that F5 in mix or not though...
hm I think it's hard to compare these because the girls used different registers :D like for example Jessica used falsetto but Seohyun didn't D:
I will say I wish Jessica would go higher in head voice though... she scaled up to D6 during their "for-fun opera session" so she can clearly go higher than like, a F#5 in head/falsetto which she never seems to go above o-o Her D6 wasn't perfect but it was way better than Taeyeon yelling out a C6 or C#6 (can't remember which) ><
Well, if I was Sohyang, I'd love be complimented xD (Don't agree about the "love of music" part, tho)
Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of her voice but sometimes I just get a thirsty vibe from her, that's all ^^
-

Well, somebody woke up with a sore body the next day....

-
There is nothing wrong with her technique. I record people vocals. I know what work and what don't work, and the inner works why people are doing this and that.
I guess the people you record have worse technique than Tiffany...?
-
How is her A6?
I loooove Sohyang and I think she's amazing and everything else good about her singing.
But sometimes I get the vibe that she's showing off and she's enjoying being in the spotlight or that she wants to be complimented... you know?
It just feels like she uses her amazing voice for praise, not for the love of music like other singers (like Ailee per se). I mean, if you got it then flaunt it, but she seldom sings without blasting a high 5th octave note (even while singing the national anthem at a baseball game).
I don't know about that A6, but I am impressed that she can go that high.
Of cos, everything is related. If you hear to a vocal tone that you don't like and call it a strain, then you are not creditably to judge too.
Um, I wouldn't try that with Ahmin because he knows what he's talking about. ^^
He studies vocals, so he has some credibility in what he's saying. And he's not judging Tiffany on her vocal tone (which I think we both agree is beautiful), he's judging her solely on technique.
-
Tbh, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Jessica's note were equally pinched. I think Seohyun's note is the worst since it sounds rather strangled and more tense.
I also think Seohyun is the worst cuz not only is she tense and strangled, she's also always flat.
"Give me a chance to come through" .. Through was impressive. Srsly Ariana hasn't deteriorated that much but Jessica was wow. Like she could sing like that before? Then the fuck has she been doing.
Really? Tiffany's note sounded like it was 100% throat though o-o
And to me it sounded like she strained more than Taeyeon and Jessica... I mean, they all strained but Tiffany's was moreso.
-
the list according to the people here goes Ailee>Yeonji>Haeri>Lina>Jea but I dunno now with Hyorin if shes better than Jea
ohhh that list makes sense.
hyorin is getting better and better at a scary fast rate, so she might be able to surpass Jea and possibly even Lina if she keeps improving...
my hope is that one day Taeyeon makes the top 5 too. is Taengoo on the top 10 though?
-
who did worse seohyun or tiffany?
And I think one of the others has said that she's not yet as good as yeeun
I think Tiffany did worse than Seohyun D: Personally I think in that performance, the F5's are Taeyeon=Jessica>Seohyun>Tiffany... I think....
oh really? Idk, I haven't heard Yeeun sing at all for years so I can't really make that comparison well I suppose :/
Eh anyways isn't she already in the top 5 now she's surpassed Jea if I'm not mistaken
that's interesting..
but who are the "top 5"? does this top 5 include only female idols, or do they also include veteran female singers as well?
if it is about female idols, how recent are the idols that you include? for example, csjh debuted a LOOONG time ago, but are they still included in this ranking?

How about Taeyeon's E5 in this Dancing Queen Perf. Is it good or not?

I think that's an F5 ^^
In the studio version she does E5 in head voice, but during the live performances she usually belts F5's. I think it was one of her better ones, but I'm not the best person to answer that XD To me it sounded pretty equivalent to Jessica's, although both of Taengsic's F5's were better than Seohyun and Tiffany's. Taeyeon's run immediately afterward is a little cloudy though, but she does it the cleanest in this performance!
you could say males as well. She's maybe at YeEun's and Chen's level. I hope I'm not reaching this in comparison.
Ohhh.. Yeah I think Chen and Yeeun are accurate, although I haven't heard Yeeun sing in a loooooong time. ><
-
who do you personally think she has caught up to?
Who Jessica caught up to? not in terms of SNSD girls but in terms of everyone, right?
uh... there's nobody really that's identical to where she is lol. or maybe I just don't know enough people to make that comparison D:
Either way Jessica is still 2nd best in SNSD in my opinion. I think Jessica might be at Sunday's level perhaps (of CSJH)...
-
ZLY might actually be the best if your claims if the resonant E5s and F#5 are true. When You wish Upon a star had some C#5's in it though. Which is a semitone from her comfort zone. She's gettin some okay C#5 and they definitely arent as bad as before. I do think she should focus on those notes and not go anything higher than Eb5 unless she wants to use headvoice. Meh if she wants to be really ambitious, No higher than E5. Jessica is doing the right thing focusing on Bb4-C5 as she getting a lot more consistent in okay and decent notes. In their genie performance in Beijing SMT13, she pulled a healthy Bb4 and she had this cute "I did good" face. Therefore she seems to be placing higher focus on technique then. No open throat yet, but perhaps soon.
I agree, she's definitely better than when she debuted. And yeah I saw that performance! At first I thought it was a Bb4 too, but I think it's actually a B4-->A4 line. Either way, it was much better than her previous ones which were sort of tense, but it was good! Taeyeon's face even looked a little pressed after Jessica sang that ad lib, lol. Or maybe she was just tired..? idk XDD
-
Maybe she is tier 1 already.
#anticipatingforResonantJessica
We all know our bitch is next.

LMFAO YESSS
I would seriously do ANYTHING to hear Jessica resonate.
She's on the right track, but I feel like her progress would be 10 times faster if she had Taeyeon's will to improve. Because Taeyeon has the thirst and ambition to be a better singer, she has become exactly that. But Jessica as we all know is lazy (lol) and she sings more for emotional purposes than technique. The proof of that is how she chooses to sing pop-ballads or slow contemporary for her special stages in music shows, variety shows, or in SNSD's concerts (Almost, Someday, When You Wish Upon a Star, etcetcetectecetcetcetc). I think she focuses more on the meaning of the song than how her voice is actually faring in terms of technique, lol. That's not a bad thing at all - but I think if she put in just a tad more work, she could resonate at least a Bb4, B4, or C5 like Taeyeon. I really think she can do it

Regarding ZLY, tbh, in SM, I don't think there's any female vocalist better than Li Yin other than Lina and possibly Dana (but Lina isn't really part of SM anymore, since she does literally no activities under SM and declined a CSJH comeback with Dana and Sunday in 2011). Taeyeon is good, but ZLY is just that little notch ahead ^^
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. ^^
-
girl I sent you the link to ZLY's recent performance. Thoughts? Is she upper tier 2 now?
YESSS my girl Li Yin.
When she debuted, like... I'm no expert, but I could tell there was something horribly wrong with her technique. She was like holding in her notes and shit and like.... her throat was on fire. Alicia Keys should have came out with her song in 2006 just for Zhang Li Yin... js.
In her recent performance at SMTOWN Beijing two days ago however - she wasn't straining her high notes at all! I compared her performance two days ago to her performance from 2006/2007, and it was LIGHT YEARS better. In this one performance I watched of her in 2007, she was more pitchy than me (hard to believe), her runs were everywhere, she lipsynced her E5 after the bridge into the last chorus, and personally I thought her F#5's at the end were more strained than Taeyeon's.
But she's been gradually improving over the years. However, I've never seen her jump so dramatically like she has with her recent performance of "Why" and and "Moving On"... she was singing melodically and melismatically and I suspect she was resonant and open throated on specific E5 and F#5's in both songs (I asked zhx - I don't have these vocal sensing powers). She was also throwing in some creative and stylistic flairs in her songs, changing up some of the runs, quavers, or timing (changing timing is called rubato I think) to make for a more impressive and emotional performance. She's also fixed her stage presence issues, flawlessly walking from side to side of the stage in 4 inch high heels yet still being able to belt out high notes effortlessly at the end of her strolls. She's just a pure goddess *_*
Like I said I'm not a vocal pedagogist like some of you guys and I could be completely wrong, but in my ears, she's gotten so much better and I was just so proud of her :')
I was really, really impressed, and I think if she keeps improving, she could be tier 1 in no time~
-
sorry but can i just say for the nth time that i hate how jessica was basically demoted to lead vocalist in all of soshi's recent songs

i love tiffany but honestly jessica can do 1000x better than her in high notes and shes not even perfect...

U shud show us smth with ur full power!
yea but those arent very good haha XDDD
i think i sang with open throat once (possibly) when i was performing the greatest love of all with my friend, but i also had a horrible crack in that performance so id rather not reveal it

one day matheus... one day

I don't like too. Sing a note for 8 beat, and you may use up 3 or 4 minutes doing that without enjoying singing. Beside singing for pitches, you can listen for your tone. Also it is a good breathing exercise too. You can skip any exercise but not singing long notes in scale.
tytytyty~
Hey Kongwee do you do producing?

LOL this whole cover was cute in some way. I'll PM you my Review.
Edit: I don't have time to review anythiing sorry
Just one thing that falsetto high note... Couldn't you have introduced it to the song less awkwardly??? XD lol
I like your voice.
EditEdit: Umm that growl.... what were you thinking or do they actually growl in the song?
thanks ^^
and um no, like i explained above it was an attempt for me to clear my throat and continue recording without having to redo it.
heheh
Well transitioning is a big factor. Could you really not mix the higher note Taeyeon hits in the bridge? Is it Eb4? Yeah lots of flatness and off melodies, it's more of lack of control and stability, get the basics down before you worry about notes and expanding the range, control the range you have right now
actually i held back because my parents were home and last time i was practicing my f4's they told me to be quiet LOL...
and okay thanks!
hopefully ill show progress the next time i show u guys something T_T
-
Very pitchy. I think you don't have the feel for the pitch. Do practice scale. Sing a straight note for 8 beat. Start to the lowest to highest to lowest. When I started singing, I alway do long notes. It is how you will be mindful about pitches.
yea people always tell me that im "pitchy" luls.
sigh... i dont like practicing scales but i suppose it must be done.
thanks

-
ive actually listened to this before. It was pitchy. Ive watched your other videos, but this isnt as pitchy as the other ones. Like you were getting less pitchy after somewhere near the 2 minute mark or after that, but still pitchy. Your vibrato in Jessica's put your hands up was sustained and a pulsation was not missed which is nice for an amateur. It was nasally tho. I like your lower range though. Although WTF was that at 1:36? That was really unhealthy. Ig you were trying to growl stylistically you need to be very careful. My favourite part was when you were doing Taeyeon's 2nd last line when she went 보있는거어어어어얼.
Your transition into falsettos needs work though. I liked how you ended the song. It was very nice.
jsuk its just my opinion, I don't consider myself worthy or qualified to evaluate 100%
thank you!!! im always trying to do better and i dont have a vocal teacher so... you guys are all i have >_<
ill try to take your advice! and i cant read korean so i dont know what part that is but hehe thanks.
and yes that was an artifical growl, i think i might have had a cough in my throat and my quick thinking made me improvise a growl and i thought it could pass as an ad lib but i guess not LOL
thanks ^^
Whose opinion u asking?
everyones D:
-
No lol. It was a 60's themed dance fusion.
But Yeah I felt fabulous after the performance. I did have a wig on during the dance tho

AHAHAH cool!
i actually wish i couldve seen your performance 8)
edit: er... by the way do you mind if you evaluate a more recent recording of mine?
its not recent recent (a few months ago) but id still like your opinion D:
-
yes people paid to see me dance in the opera house. *flips weave
LOL. so you must have danced jazz or ballet, right?
and you dont actually have a weave do you ._.
?
oh sorry i didnt know what else to say after "ohhh" so i just randomly gave a forced laugh ^^
Thoughts on this perf? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy3pj7TCNkQ&feature=player_embedded
wait... why was the fancam focusing on a backup dancer....
I don;t personally enjoy her cause she does too much but this bitch understands her instrument.
LOLOLOL yea after the 4th minute or so i felt like she was done with the song and was just showing off her vocals....
which isnt a bad thing, but vocal feats lose their awe factor after theyre done like 10 times, especially in the same song ._.
-
Oh god hell no. I'm very much a Soprano~ Light Lyric Soprano to be exact~
My range is C3-C6~ 3.0 octaves.
ohhhhh
OHOHOHOHOHOOHOHOOHOHO

Not in my mix, but in my head voice~ lol
omg same!
after warming up I can let out a horrible F5 in head voice LOL
