My question is if Mnet/CJ were responsible, why do people want to keep giving them money?

Hopefully they'll have a comeback sooner rather than later. -
The official WJSN (우주소녀) thread ✰ #WJSN #LastSequence

Hi everybody. Cosmic Girls is in my top three groups. It's nice to see that they already have a win for As You Wish. With that said, (and I'm very definitely in the minority here), I'm not too keen on As You Wish. I'm not saying it's bad. It's just "okay" for me. I feel like the pacing is off in the beginning, and at times the mix sounds muddled... It's not like I was expecting the greatest song ever; just anything "not-summer", (since I REALLY dislike summer songs). But for some reason, it's not clicking with me. Anyway... Cheers for Cosmic Girls!- 121,328 replies

I don't think they're going to bring Daisy and Taeha back. Also, I think Yeonwoo won't promote with the group but "continue to promote Momoland through her individual activities." We'll see...

Wondering if at some point Jellyfish will say something like, "Gugudan will continue to promote through individual activities," ... signaling Gugudan as a group is effectively done (at least for now), without having to explicitly acknowledge it.

All good points. Hoping the demand side of the equation really takes off this upcoming year. Maybe some of my concern comes from the fact that I still remember when groups were "given" about 2 years to hit their stride. That has essentially been cut to about half or a quarter of that time. Pressures of the industry, I guess... If they continue giving the girls quality material like Love Bomb and LRPP, I think it's fine to follow up with like 2 single albums, with not so long waiting times.

I'm aware of the business/finacial considerations and the dynamics of the ongoing scandal environment. Nevertheless, the "drought" was ongoing before the scandal picked up steam. It's perfectly understandable to invest more resources on the product that generates more revenue, but that doesn't preclude having a decent budget for your standard product. Fromis was basically gone from Dec. 2018 until Fun promotions, then gone after again after Love Rum Pum Pum. Does that mean OTR burned through the budget with a mini album and an MV? Aside from financial considerations, I think OTR has fallen into a pattern that is not rare across the kpop industry: agencies cannot seem to find a way to manage two girl groups at once. And if the people at OTR in charge of directly managing the girls are still the co/ex-Pledis or whatever folks, I guess I should not be surprised. Lastly, before the scandal picked up steam, if the girls as a group were not generating as the company would've liked, that's another reason they should have looked for individual gigs. It's called diversification. It's better to move your money to a low or medium-risk stock or bond, than to just let it sit in a non-interest accruing account. Here's hoping 2020 is a good year for the girls...

This whole PD/Mnet/CJ thing has shown how so many people are full of it. They were so quick to pile on fromis, but when the investigations started to show the extent of manipulation in the formation of the PD groups, it was suddenly, "hate the company, support the group." Then they lost their minds with the rumors of possible dissolution of the current PD groups. This left me puzzled. They want to keep giving money to the company that caused the mess in the first place? Really? The guys and girls make almost nothing from album sales. They have agencies they can go back to and be successful in. And they are temp groups. It seems people just pose performative demands, "give us 'justice' so long as it costs us nothing, and especially not our entertainment". Now, the situation is more complicated with fromis_9, since they are a permanent group. It's not like some company will come in and buy them out. If people want to be fair, or at least consistent, they should support fromis_9, then.

Hey! Back after a while; finally got some free time... Absolutely apropos of nothing in particular: I've been listening to a lot of fromis_9 recently, (more than usual), and my word, the emotion, earnestness, and "vulnerability", (for lack of a better word), in the girls' singing is something else. I think it's very rare in all of kpop. For example, at the end of Glass Shoes, and at the end of Love Bomb...like I sometimes feel a lump in my throat, and I'm not a very emotional person. Anyway, wish more people would appreciate. Cheers!

Yeah, I don't expect this be the watershed that "saves Kpop," releases the prisoners, brings agencies into account, and makes them turn a new leaf. I also recognize that people make their own decisions, that to some extent they "know what they're getting into," and that it CAN ALWAYS BE WORSE. I also hope that fromis takes minimal damage, and spectators can move on to other things. However, I do think it is important to bring to light the bad things that go on, even if it changes very little, or nothing.

Thanks for the updates, @satoori. It seems to me, the real story here is not the skewing of votes (which I still maintain people selectively pass over in regard to PD groups), but that whoever was running things in IS pretty much acted like those no-name, two-bit companies that promise hopeful youngsters the world but don't deliver, (because they know they can't deliver), and end up tying up the trainees for years and ultimately wasting their youth and dashing their dreams. What makes it worse is that they were basically "sequestered" for almost 6 months. That is complete garbage. I think it's quite appropriate that ex-trainees should, and are, speaking up. I would hope, though, that it would create sympathy towards fromis girls, rather than scorn. They deserve to be stars, because they are. Cheers!... now off to do some real adult work...

Thanks! Yeah, I hardly disagree with anything you have to say. And of course the girls deserve 100% support. I was just pointing out some pitfalls, as I perceive them, in discussions over this "controversy," not just here, but elsewhere. My biggest problems are actually 3 things that may or may not be related to CJ's systemic issues, and the skewness of results (which I expect of every reality-comp): 1) The girls have had to deal with a difficult combination of antipathy and apathy since IS; so that the majority of people don't notice them, while having a noticeable (enough) minority of haters that use ANYTHING to trash them. 2) The cognitive dissonance of people hating or "judging" them, when similar less-than-transparent practices were employed in the other comp groups that "everyone loves". Like, half of the final line up of I*Z already had booked flights at least week before the finale and that's whatever? (No shade, by the way, I*Z is good)...or, more grating to me, the constant clamor for IOI the past 3 years? Seriously... and 3) Why not just evaluate the group on the merit of the quality of their "product" (awful language, I know)? [ e.g. Are the songs good? Do they dance well? Are they good performers? Are the production values up to par? and so on] Anyway...sorry about the long diatribes, I have insomnia right now and I'm an academic so...

Hello, everyone. Long-time lurker here. I've been into Kpop for about 8 years now... fromis_9 is my favorite group; I've been a fan since IS. Sorry to intrude, this is my first time commenting on anything. I think people wanting to hate on the girls as well as those wanting to protect them have been prone to selective memory, and either over estimate or over dismissive of "evidence." The issue shouldn't be ABOUT the girls... First of all, Mnet/CJ have a history of being less than forthright about rankings and voting, at least since PD 101 S 1. Sometimes, they're super clumsy about it. People don't remember how they changed the weighting of fan voting in the middle of the show to "better reflect" popularity or whatever? And then again, toward the end, when (arguably) some of the fan (and producer) favorites were not going to make the cut? That is just one example. The main thing about IS, I think, is the increasing appearance that the formation of the group was presented (arguably) under false pretenses. The writers/producers messed up in presenting the thing as a fan-vote-based competition instead of a producer-based-with-fan-input formation show somewhat closer to 16™ or whatever. I watched IS fairly soon after it aired and it seemed apparent to me that the showrunners wanted a younger group; and more speculative on my part, were reluctant to have "foreign" members. Also, these are "reality" SHOWS. Things are always different than what is presented on the screen. The shows are crafted to tell particular stories; not the 5 o'clock local news...anyway I could go on, but I'm afraid I've worn out my welcome. Please let me know if I should expand, or just keep my head down. Three cheers for fromis_9! Hurrah!
