  1. https://www.newsweek.com/philippine-rodrigo-duterte-coronavirus-lockdown-dead-1495690 Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has warned that anyone breaking the coronavirus lockdown on the island of Luzon may be shot by the military or the police, as the country fights to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The controversial president — who has been accused of crimes against humanity over his merciless and bloody war on drugs — gave a televised address on Wednesday warning there would be a zero tolerance policy for those breaking the lockdown, which came into force on March 15 and will run until at least April 14. There have been 2,311 confirmed cases in the Philippines, with 96 deaths and 50 recoveries. The country's health care system could be overwhelmed if the spread gets out of control, but hundreds of new cases are now being reported daily. Duterte told citizens Wednesday that the situation is "getting worse," Reuters reported. "So once again I'm telling you the seriousness of the problem and that you must listen. My orders to the police and military... If there is trouble and there's an occasion that they fight back and your lives are in danger, shoot them dead." "Is that understood?" he added. "Dead. Instead of causing trouble, I will bury you." Duterte's threats came after reports of unrest in Quezon City, a low income part of the capital Manila, where residents were protesting over the lack of government food aid. At least 21 people were arrested, according to CNN Philippines. Duterte also warned that abuse or discrimination against medical workers, driven by the stigma of their exposure to COVID-19, was unacceptable and would not be tolerated. The national police chief said Thursday that officers did not take Duterte's threat literally and said no one would be shot for violating the lockdown, Reuters reported. The president is known for his aggressive and offensive remarks, particularly with regards to law and order. His drug war has killed between 5,552 and 6,660 people since June 2016, according to official figures. But human rights groups put the figure far higher — at least 27,000 by the middle of 2019. ________________________________________ Stay safe everyone....

  6. Info Although it is already being billed in some places as a “sequel to Train To Busan”, the director says, “Peninsula is not a sequel to Train To Busan because it’s not a continuation of the story, but it happens in the same universe.” Budgeted at roughly twice Train To Busan’s $8m and starring top actor Gang Dong-won (1987: When The Day Comes) with Lee Jung-hyun (The Battleship Island), Peninsula takes place four years after the outbreak of zombies that were chasing protagonists on a train speeding south to Busan. The Korean peninsula is devastated and Jung-seok, a former soldier who has managed to escape overseas, is given a mission to go back and unexpectedly meets up with survivors.

  12. https://metro.co.uk/2019/11/01/live-pigs-used-crash-test-dummies-slammed-walls-china-11022759/?ito=cbshare Shocking photos have emerged showing live pigs being used as crash test dummies in China. Fifteen pigs between 70 and 80 days old were starved for 24 hours before being strapped into children’s car seats and placed in high-speed simulations Seven of the animals were killed on impact – while the others only survived just six hours after the test, scientists wrote in a study published this year. The terrified pigs suffered a range of injuries including ‘abrasion, contusion, laceration, bleeding and fractures’. Peta has now written to the Institute for Traffic Medicine in China in a bid to stop the practice from happening. Spokeswoman Anne Meinert told Bild: ‘Letting intelligent and sensitive animals like pigs crash into walls in high-speed tests in China is simply cruel. ‘It leads to broken bones, internal bruising, lacerations and horrible deaths.’ Campaigner Zachary Toliver added online: ‘Live pigs are pulverised in these tests, leaving them with broken bones and severe internal injuries before they’re killed and dissected. ‘Pigs don’t naturally sit up in car seats. Their anatomy is also very different from that of humans, so the data obtained from these horrific animal experiments aren’t applicable to human car-crash victims. ‘Car companies figured out years ago that these kind of experiments are worthless and tell us nothing about a human experience in a car crash. ‘Using sentient animals in car-crash tests is cruel, archaic, and unjustifiable.’ Pigs were previously used in American crash tests, but pressure from animal right’s groups brought the practice to an end in the 90s. Writing in the International Journal of Crashworthiness, scientists in China claimed they followed US guidelines for the use of laboratory animals. They said that the anatomy of immature pigs is ‘similar’ to that of human children around six years old, and insisted that the study had been approved by an ethics committee. All 15 of the pigs used were given no food 24 hours before the experiment and deprived of water for six hours before. They were then given anaesthetic to reduce ‘excitement and stress’ before being mounted on a sled and slammed into a wall at 30mph. Researchers wrote: ‘Of the tested animals, seven died immediately after the impact, and the rest survived six hours after the test.’ The Scientists then cut open the pigs’ bodies to determine why examine their injuries and cause of death. _______________________________________________ WTF
  13. https://nextshark.com/homework-brain-vessel-rupture-mom/ Featured Image (Representation Only) via Sina News An elementary school student in northern China died after blood vessels to and from her brain ruptured as a result of the whacking that she received from her mother for making errors on her homework. The 8-year-old girl, who lived in Tongchuan, Shaanxi province, reportedly watched cartoons while doing her homework one afternoon, which apparently affected her focus. Seeing plenty of mistakes in her work, the girl’s mother became enraged and whacked the back of her head, instantly making her cry out in pain. Suddenly feeling guilty, the mother reportedly took out a packet of pickled chicken feet and offered it to her daughter to make her feel better. The girl stopped crying after having chicken feet. However, it did not take long before she started vomiting. Convinced that the chicken feet had been poisonous, the mother rushed her daughter to the hospital. Sadly, she died later that night. Shortly after, doctors determined that the chicken feet had nothing to do with the girl’s death. Instead, she passed away due to a cerebral contusion, a form of traumatic brain injury characterized by scattered areas of bleeding. Additionally, the doctors said that the girl had already been suffering from cerebrovascular malformation, a rare condition characterized by abnormal blood vessel formation in the brain. Studies show they are potentially disastrous. The girl’s mother, who admitted to beating her daughter on the back of her head, expressed regret over her actions. As it turned out, her punishment caused the already-deformed blood vessels in her daughter’s brain to rupture, which ultimately led to her death. Corporal punishment continues to be practiced not only in many Asian households but also in schools. The 8-year-old girl died in June 2015, but Chinese-language news outlets have recently republished her story to warn parents that hitting certain body parts such as the back of the head, the temple, the ears and the back is dangerous. The girl’s mother is reportedly facing charges for her actions, but it’s unclear whether she is currently incarcerated.
  14. A heartbreaking image of a dead Loggerhead turtle is being circulated on Facebook after it was found to have 104 pieces of plastic in its stomach. The baby turtle, no bigger than the palm of your hand, was found in Florida last week by the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. The staff there pulled out the pieces of plastic and laid them in rows – providing a visceral reminder of the dangers of millions of tonnes of plastic currently being dumped into our oceans each year. ‘Not such a happy #TurtleTuesday this week,’ the Gumbo Limbo team posted on their Facebook account. ‘It’s washback season at Gumbo Limbo and weak, tiny turtles are washing up along the coastline needing our help. Unfortunately, not every washback survives. 100% of our washbacks that didn’t make it had plastic in their intestinal tracts. ‘This turtle, which would fit in the palm of your hand, had eaten 104 pieces of plastic. This is a sad reminder that we all need to do our part to keep our oceans plastic free.’ The turtle had been eating various different kinds of plastic, staff revealed. ‘We found a piece of a balloon. There was a wrapper that goes on the outside of bottles,’ Whitney Crowder, the sea turtle rehabilitation coordinator at Gumbo Limbo, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. A ‘washback’ turtle is a baby turtle that could only make it a few miles out to sea before being washed back to shore. Florida is an important breeding ground for turtles, with five different species making their nests on the beaches there. These include the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), green turtle (Chelonia mydas), leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), Kemp’s ridley turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). A turtle’s early years will be spent drifting around seaweed to find small shrimp and crustaceans to eat. Unfortunately, in 2019, they will also find heaps of manufactured non-biodegradable plastic in there as well. _________________________________________________________ Sorry little dude/ette, you're in a better place.
  15. https://nextshark.com/hwaseong-killer-serial/ South Korean police have identified the possible culprit behind a series of gruesome murders that shook the nation in the late 1980s, however, he will not be facing charges. Through DNA analysis, authorities identified the “Hwaseong serial killer,” a 56-year-old man who allegedly gagged, raped and murdered 10 females aged 13 to 71 in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province between Sept. 15, 1986 and April 3, 1991. The crimes, which took place in rural villages, are regarded as the most notorious in modern South Korean history, involving more than two million police officers. The killer, who strangled his victims with their own clothes, also became known as the “Hwaseong Strangler” and inspired many films and TV shows including 2003 film “Memories of Murder,” one of the country’s most successful movies to date. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency confirmed the suspect’s identity after the National Forensic Service (NFS) matched DNA from a victim’s underwear to his, according to the Korea Times. So far, he matched three — the fifth, seventh and ninth — out of the 10 unsolved cases, all of which reportedly occurred between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., except for the first case that took place around 6 a.m. Due to the end of the 15-year statute of limitations for his crimes on April 2, 2006, the suspect, however, will no longer be able to face charges. However, he is not a free man, as he is already serving a life sentence for raping and killing his wife’s younger sister, according to KBS. “I express my deep condolences to the victims and their families, as well as the Korean public, for not having been able to solve this case for a long time,” Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency officer Ban Gi-soo told AFP, according to the BBC. “We will do our best to discover the truth with a sense of historical responsibility.” Officials at the jail in Busan holding the suspect described him as a “quiet, model prisoner.” He denied involvement in the killings, according to Yonhap News. One officer said that he seemed just like his usual self. “I heard that even after the police investigation, he was quite calm and didn’t show much reaction.” Featured Image via Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency
