Fair points but Asians both emasculate and revere certain qualities about themselves too. Everyone outside of K-pop finds most of these boybands not reflective of real life, of men in the street. South Koreans are always having microphones pushed under their noses and asked what they think of BTS and K-pop. Many of them literally don't care, it's a world they don't recognise, and this was before the big western push started around 2018. Even their own Korean shows are obsessed with stereotypical male profiles, muscles, strength, power. And poking fun at males who don't fit that profile. That part's not the west's doing. K-pop seems to be in a transition phase, wanting to import more gender fluidity (without rocking established boats). But it doesn't translate into what is still a very rigidly macho wider society.

Replace 'gay' with 'closeted' and you might be nearer the mark re: self mocking, demeaning or just amusing in-jokes between friends. Male humour isn't like female humour. They just don't get offended in the way girls do. Or even think that deeply about this stuff.

I can see Taehyung ending up living some place in Europe. Paris, or maybe somewhere like Cornwall, where it's dreamy, artistic and romantic. He's an old soul.

Young male gheys generally like older gheys, some considerably so. Or only noticed by a small section of fans. It's formula. The top female groups do it too. And they used it in western pop groups, two 'special' friends, always holding hands or the long stares when a camera was around. Cheryl and Kimberley of Girls Aloud 'Chim,' Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd of McFly 'Pudd,' and the infamous Larry, which people still pin their hopes on.

Which is why I mentioned that he was part of the creative process, not that he wrote all that material because he didn't. But he certainly opted to take part in it. There's nothing else I can add to the V debate except to reiterate that it may or may not be about him, or gay issues pertaining to him. We just don't have a first hand account. But I've enjoyed reading peoples views and different takes on it.

I agree it might be about himself and it might be LGBT related, but it might not, and there's really no way to verify it unless he decides to elaborate. It will still go down as one of those mysterious maybe gaybe Taybe's that makes him so interesting. Ricky Martin used to top charts once with odes to women and the female form (even where he only part contributed to the creative process). So you can never apply a definite to anything undefined as such. But it's fun to speculate.

Re: Stigma. Does Taehyung, as the subject, need to even be at the heart of this song though? Quite often performers write or co-write songs from another person's perspective, or as a third party remote viewer. I'm not sure the answer to it can be easily found, as it might not be about 'him' at all, even if it's 'personal.' It may still be him telling a story through another's eyes.

Jimin ain't the be all and end all in this - there is another named public figure. His people are just as likely to have intervened imo. When Jimin goes home the young US player is left to face any potential fallout from this whether it's true or false. I wouldn't expect most Koreans to even read or know about CDAN or US blind items. But western people sure do. And sportsfans can make life hell for their rivals on the back of truths, falsehoods, rumours, and innocent situations taken out of context.

I've often wondered this. There's always strength in numbers. 10-15 would actually be notable in music in South Korea but they'd have to be high level 'best boys' to make waves. And the higher they go the more internal demand upon them, and so less likely to break rules imposed. BTS for example are now pretty much signed up government shills, promoting Korean culture, food, language, style. Anywhere they go in the world they just head to the nearest Korean BBQ for a photo, lol. So no 'mass' rebellion from here I don't think. Even EXO's supposed primary gayer has backtracked sharply. The reality is that they potentially do have a lot to lose, individually and professionally. Esp. in a society that has little to no obvious interest in LGBT+ rights. If they want to continue living and working there. Any major idol rebellion is probably going to come from the 4th gen idols, if it comes at all. Or from those with dual nationality or are non-Koreans in the newer manufactured groups. Even so, I don't see the appetite for a mass, organised c/o atm. Individuals c/o yes, because someone will get the ball rolling at some point.

They're obviously really good friends but a certain amount of all actions between any members of a group are subject to scriptedness, and knowing the cameras are on them. I'm not apt to read too much into a concert where it's noisy, distracting, and people are high as kites having fun. But Taehyung does initiate much of the upfront fanservice with JK. Or he's just tactile, which he is. There's a decent chance of 2 possible couples in BTS. Neither of them are this or the Jikook floorshow. But they're great fun to watch and all obviously like each other, share secrets and have interests in common. Just my opinion, fwiw.

Yeah, Hobi, Tae, Jimin and JK are there and look to be having a great time. Everyone loves it when BTS go to LA because they can just chillax and not seem so rigid with the filming and tasks.
